You posed a great question... what happens to these bottles once the retailers get ahold of them? Lots of 'shady' retailers out there, for sure. These bottles never seem to make it to the store shelf. Sold out the back door of the store to... friends, family and flippers ( the 3 F's).

actually I'm sure many of them just keep if for their own private collection. I had a store owner one time tell me that was how he was going to pay for his kids college many years from now..... by selling all of these that have come to his store and he's kept them.

The laws need to change for the distributors. It's clear that they still exist through lobbying and political donations. The internet has been around for a while, it's not 1930, and we're not Puritans. The distilleries should be able to directly sell and ship their specialty products to people. These distributors, in my opinion, have ragged the consumer for too long. Obviously, the contention that the distributor plays a pivotal role in the distribution of products is valid, and a law change would not gravely affect the model as they'll still be required. I can still purchase items online directly from producers without the distribution firms coming into the equation for other products, and I don't see why distilleries couldn't perform the same function if they so choose. As the bourbon community continues to grow, I hope that there are prudent changes made to the current system that benefit the consumer rather than middle man.
@cartermayfield11 ай бұрын
All good points that will not change the fact that there are far far more people after GTS at $125 than there are bottles to go around. You can make as many changes to distribution as you want, but you are facing that daunting math.
@silver334411 ай бұрын
@@cartermayfield Yeah, but the GTS goes to MSRP 500+ and levels off where demand meets supply available. If all GTS were priced 1-1.5k they wouldn't sell out if it were domestic shipping within the U.S. Demand over time would play into the distiller's hands, and ultimately benefit them the most. The tricky factor is the price correlated directly to its age. A lot of secondary pricing issues stem from exporting and hoarding (both from distributors and individuals after retail). You don't Buffalo Trace wouldn't sell and ship GTS for 500+ with a limit of 1 for the year or whatever they need to balance out satisfying their customers?
@AnAbortiveRomance11 ай бұрын
If it was direct sales, you'd never even see them again. It would be a mad rush of flippers to buy every bottle. BT needs to raise the prices, so distributors and retailers can afford to sit on those bottes anymore. They don't care if they sit on a bottle of Stagg or GTS that they paid relatively little for, then jack the prices way up. If they had to pay closer to what they all charge, that would change their behavior.
@bc4evernow11 ай бұрын
Make them crack the bottle and the secondary market is gone. But that will never happen to many people make money off secondary.
@silver334411 ай бұрын
@@AnAbortiveRomance Naturally, I would concede that to be the case. Direct limited sales around a fair market price would stop the gouging for the actual consumer of the specialty products. In essence, it would be a distiller - consumer win/win. Liquor stores would still be needed, but for the specialty/experimental stuff it'd be nice to cut the middle man out of the process. Not likely, but it would be nice.

It’s funny how reviewers have had much different opinions on these bottles. Again it’s all about one’s palate. Though I’ll never get a taste of any of these I can appreciate different opinions on the taste profile and their take. So far I’ve seen two that didn’t like this bottle and three that liked it a lot. I will give BT points for not setting the price to ridiculous amounts unlike WT. of course they did jump the shark with that 25 year ER. Which is really crazy seeing how this BTAC ER has 19 year old juice in it for 125. So apparently 6 more years is magical or someone is smoking crack that sets prices. Just saying. Enjoy.
