Asalaamu alaykum Ustaad. The hadith that you read that was along the lines of the prohibition of making wudu with what ever that is cooked on the fire, does that mean that we can't use hot water for wudu or is it saying that you can't use water left over from cooked food? I say respectfully The truth is majority of the people like myself have no idea what half the words that came out of your mouth meant. #Laymen Is it not better that we follow a madhab? I understand if learned scholars practice Ijtihaad but everyone should not. Is my understanding correct?

you should follow but not blind follow; if someone comes to you with evidence that is stronger, than you follow the stronger evidence, simple, and may Allah guide us all.

@@rehanmir4560 True. And how does a layperson understand the books of madhāhib? How did he even come to know of the madhāhib? The layman has no madhab, he is to do what Allāh has commanded him to do. "Ask Ahl adh-Dhikr if you do not know." - [16:43] He is to ask a person of knowledge who is able to perform ijtihād, and can take directly from the Book & the Sunnah, this will not be regarded as blameworthy Taqlīd. If he is not able to find such a person, he is to find the next best thing i.e. a person who can perform Ijtihād to an extent. If not, a person who can weigh up the views of the Mujtahideen. And so on. This is how the layman seeks fatāwah - Ustādh is not advocating for the layman to deduce from & interpret the texts, he is saying that we must do I'ttibah (following) of the texts, with the understanding of a scholar. And if we come across a hadīth, we have a person of knowledge explain it to us, and if his conclusion opposes our current view, then we follow that view, despite the statements of anybody else. This is praiseworthy following. Imām Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said: "Indeed the lay person cannot have a madhab (school of thought), even if he thinks he does. Rather the lay person has no madhab at all, because the madhab will be for the one who is able to research to a certain level & understand evidence...and knows the ruling & sayings of his Imām. As for the one who is unable to do any of that, but merely says 'I am a Shafi'ī' or 'I am a Hanbalī' etc. Then he does not become that just by saying so, just as would be the case if he said 'I am a religious scholar' or 'I am a scholar of grammar', then he does not become that just by saying so." - I'lām ul-Muwaqqi'een, 4/261 Ibn Ameer 'l-Haaj al-Hanafi (d. 879AH) - explaining "The layman not possessing a Madhab" - said: "...because a Madhab is only for that person who has a degree of analysis, ability to evidence and have an insight of the Madhāhib as he is capable, or one who read a text on the Furoo' of that Madhab & becomes acquainted with the verdicts of his Imām & his statements...As the layman is ignorant of the modus operandi of the Imām of the Madhab he is ascribing himself to, and as long as he is ignorant of his methodology, how can this layman ascribe himself to the Imam's Madhab? To the contrary, his ascription to a Madhab would be a mere claim, and it would be a statement that is void of any real meaning...There is consensus that a Muslim can do Taqlīd (i.e. he can ask fatāwah) of whichever scholar he wishes without restriction. Whoever says anything to the contrary, the burden of proof is on them...It is not correct for a layman to ascribe himself to a Madhab. Such a person would not be a Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i or Hanbali, even if he claims to be a Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i or Hanbali... If a layman took it upon himself to follow one Madhab, like that of Abu Hanifah, Malik, al-Shafi'i or Ahmed, it would not be obligatory upon him to stick to that Madhab, because Allah made no such obligations upon him, nor did Allah or His Prophet ever order anyone to adopt a Madhab." - Al-Taqreer Wa-'l-Tahbeer, Sharh 'l-Tahreer, Chapter on Taqlīd

@@SamA-cl5pn U need to learn basic for example agreed upon bukhari and muslim is most strong proof.Check opinion of 4 imams and get a hadith proof for it. Follow such a scholar atleast who doesn't claim to stick to one madhhab only for example website islamqa.info etc.

The set up of the brothers arguments is that the issues in a mathhab are all based on the opinion of the Imam of that mathhab, and it is false and misleading, with all due respect. This kind of speech is what halted the spread of the selafi movement and a great injustice. A mathhab has issues that are from the Quran, Sunnah and Qiyaas (deduction from Quran and Sunnah). So if you are referring to the latter that is OK but don't discourage people from asking for fatwas from a mathhab while presenting yourself or people with your short sightedness as being the ones to ask for fatwa. Allah (swt) tells us to ask people of knowledge if we don't know, full stop. If you claim to follow the Quran, then don't pick and choose as you like from the revelation. Are you claiming that the scholars who have compiled the fatwas, because this is what mathhab books are, are insincere or have other agendas? It shows that you don't have any knowledge of Usuul. If somebody like you comes to someone who has a fatwa from a scholar from a mathhab, do you expect him to trust you that you have compared your evidence and have looked it from all angles, and that what you are saying is true? Is that not swapping your fatwa for another?. In my humble opinion, what you are saying is don't follow anyone else except me this is just another way of indoctrinating others to your opinions. Allah (swt) says ask the people of knowledge if you don't know, and it is implied that you follow because why would ask if you don't follow. You also have mentioned that Allah (swt) said: we should obey Allah and Obey the Messenger and the people who have authority over you, is that not another evidence that we should follow and obey the scholars in issues we have no knowledge of? May Allah guide us!
