I give you my very positive initial review of the Adidas Adizero Takumi Sen 6 after a 7 mile threshold effort.
This is a super light, super responsive shoe for high paced racing and one which i very much enjoyed testing out.
It's crazy comfortable, soft and inviting, like a tasty bag of cotton candy.
Please comment below on this shoe, if you have worn one of its predecessors or are interested in picking it up.

I'm a long-term Takumi Sen user, so permit me to add a few comments. They are the only Adidas shoe I've ever used that needs a break-in. I need 25 km on mine before they lose that 'running on balsa wood' feeling. Most runners view Japanese flats such as the Takumi as a 5 to 10k shoe, but they really excel in the 10 to 20k range, where the Boost in the forefoot retains its magic, unlike some foam types that bottom out at those distances. Not sure if I'd ever use them for a marathon (I've never run more than a half marathon in them). Because of the low drop (4mm) they are good to 'decompress' your calves after a big run in the Vaporfly or Zoomfly. I get about 500k from my Takumis - the outer nubs are the first thing to wear out (the Adios has a much more robust outsole that I can get over 1,000k from).

Hey there. I agree about the Adios. I can see it last a long time. The rubber is thin but very durable. Zero degradation so far but I’m just scratching the surface. A possible half marathon shoe for you then? I’m finding being a little lighter that I can use them without too much fatigue. Thanks for watching. 👍🏼😊🏃🏻‍♂️

Loving the videos Eddbud! Keep them coming! I have a few questions if you don't mind. I play a multi sprint sport, which requires me to wear moulded/studded football boots, but I also need a trainer for doing work off the pitch sometimes. I need a shoe for doing intervals and sprint training on track, treadmill, and grass. I also occasionally do longer, fast tempo runs on the road, grass, trail, and treadmill (3-5km, max 8k). I also intend using this shoe for gym work & weight lifting. Would you recommend the adios 5 or takumi sen 6 or another adidas shoe? Would one shoe be versatile enough to do everything mentioned above or would I need to purchase 2 shoes to cover my different types of training? I also have a ultraboost for longer runs/casual wear. Finally, do you know if low profile shoes are better than high profile ones for weight lifting?
@EDDBUD

Hey there. An interesting question and one that needed some thought when answering. The sen 6 isn’t so good on longer distances. If your doing 8k max I would look at either the sl20 or the Adios 4/5. They are nicely low profile and I think could do the trick. Hope this helps out. What sport do you play? Thanks for watching 👍🏼😊🏃🏻‍♂️

Good video man. Is it more reasonable to compare these to the Pegasus turbo 2’s instead of the next percent or 4%? Those seem more targeted to marathon shoes versus the Pegasus turbo 2’s that are a long distance trainer or logical 10k or half marathon shoe? I’d love to try these out for a half I’ve got coming up but I’m questioning their comfort over a half marathon distance vs the Pegasus turbo 2’s.

Hi Edd, very good review, just discovering your chanel, loving it ! I am a long time user of the Takumi, both Sen and Ren, I realised that from the Sen 4 to the 5, I had to size down Half a point. The Sen 5 is roomier in the toebox. Is the Takumi 6 fits more like the version 4 or 5. Some review says it has a narrow toebox. Being in Canada, those shoes are not available here anymore. I am ordering them from the Uk. So I need the know the right size to order. Tx.

Hello there. Many thanks for commenting. In adidas and new balance shoes I seems to prefer them a half size up. This one is no different and I went for a 11.5. I seem to fall in between an 11 and a 11.5 for some nikes. Hope this helps in some way. It’s certainly narrow and a 11 wouldn’t have been comfortable for use for me. Do you think these shoes require fast legs? And that actually determines a race distance? I imagine these to be rather a pain in half marathon. So what would a close option but a more forgiving one? - the Boston? Or stick with the Turbo 2 (for example) and forget the adizero line?
@EDDBUD
@EDDBUD 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Miko. I think that some runners who can’t sustain a more midfoot/forefoot strike will suffer in this shoe as the miles increase. It’s very much designed to persuade you to land on the front area of the shoe. Lots more cushion in the turbo. This one for me is best suited for 5k to 10k. Though I would be interested to see it’s performance for me personally with a 13.1 mile effort. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching. 👍🏼😊🏃🏻‍♂️

Can you give any size comparison? I live in Ireland and have never had the option to try Takumi Sen. A lot of reviews say to go up a full size from normal in the older models. I was 11.5uk in the adios boost 2 and usually 11.5 UK in New Balance Zante and Fuel Cell Rebel. I’m 11uk in Beacon2 for some reason. Also usually closer to 11.5 in Kinvaras. For once adidas go up to 12 and 12.5uk on their website for Takumi Sen 6 so considering trying them. My current racing flat is Saucony A8 size 11uk and they are like an absolute glove on my slightly narrow feet.

Hey there. I would typically go for an 11 in most shoes. These feel great in an 11.5. For the rebel I wish I had gone up a half size. Fixed it with alternative insoles though. For the sen I think a half size up is the key. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching 👍🏼😊🏃🏻‍♂️

I have 2 pairs of the Takumi Ren ( including one I haven't worn yet). I raced several times in them in 2017, including my 2nd sub-3h marathon. I tested them out a few times last year and they still went well (most of 2018 and 2019 I was a bit injured so stayed away from the quick stuff and stuck to ultras). I plan on racing my first Parkrun in a long time this weekend! Do you know how these compare to the Sen and how you tell which variation they are e.g. 1, 2, 3? Do you have plans to start racing around Europe or are the shoes eating away your budget?
@EDDBUD
@EDDBUD 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Jeff. I would love a race or two in Europe. Later this summer perhaps. Though I do love a colder climate so that might affect my choice a little. Not sure on the differences between this and the REN. I have read there is more boost in this version in comparison to the sen 5. This could be a good more affordable alternative and better responsiveness than the Vaporfly. Seems like a somewhat simpler and purer shoe. Thanks for watching. 👍🏼😊🏃🏻‍♂️

Adidas was always my go to brand for sports shoes, all the way through high school...hockey boots, rugby boots, cricket spikes, running shoes...you name it, if I had it, it definitely was made by Adidas! A few years down the line and all I own from Adidas is a running visor, a t-shirt and a pair of shorts...Adidas just hasn't excited me in a very long time, their boost midsoles seem dated and lagging behind some of the other manufacturers...I'm not talking about carbon fibre plates and all that nonsense, just plainly about comfort and durability (I know some manufacturers aren't all that great at durability either (looking at you here Nike)...I guess they can't all build a shoe like Asics can...but Adidas just hasn't done much for me lately...this Takumi Sen 6 does look promising though, I would love to hear more from you about them as you stack up miles Eddbud! Especially regarding the half marathon distance...they look really good to me for that type of race! Thanks for the great review! 👍

@@EDDBUD That I can understand that Eddbud! We're dealing with 40degC+ type temps here so it's tough running but for a different reason...I'm happy to hear about the build quality, that usually leads to a pretty decent durability...you can have the best materials but if you put them together incorrectly you don't get the durability benefits of those good materials...it's because you mentioned that you like the build and the comfort that I would consider these for my rotation...but because they're really more of a racer than a trainer shoe, I guess we have to look at it's durability a little differently...am I correct in thinking that you should expect less mileage out of racing shoes than out of trainers?
@EDDBUD
@EDDBUD 4 жыл бұрын
I always think light and minimal for racing. For training I’m happier in more cushioned shoes for those recovery and easy paces. But for tempo and race pace I like the vest, racing shorts and light shoes. But with that comes more limited durability. Lots of folks wear Asics but they are so heavy to me. As a light fellow I enjoy a less present shoe and this really excites me. On durability only time will tell. 👍🏼😊🏃🏻‍♂️

@@EDDBUD Good point of view...I also don't weigh a lot so cushioning isn't top of my list...I often do 20k+ long runs in the same shoes I do 10k races in. With regards to Asics, I was merely speaking to their durability, I haven't actually run in Asics for about 3 years now, my last pair was before Strava was a thing...but I do know prolific runners who always praise Asics for the sheer mileage they get out of them. @@EDDBUD Yes it does :) Thank you, I found one that is a 9.5 and I am normally a 9 in other shoes so wasn't sure whether to order it or not but I am going to give it a go. Thank you :)

regarding sizes, is it the same as the previous one?

Haven’t tried the previous one but I found a 11.5 was perfect for me. An 11 would have been too short. I am typically a size 11 in most other models. 😊👍🏼🏃🏻‍♂️

Ah interesting you found these OK. Did you know that the world 10K road record got set in a version of these the other week by Rhonex Kipruto 26:24. Bit unclear though if the 6 or 5 but whatever not a Nike Vaporfly variant and seemingly no carbon plate! I got the Adios 5 recently and did a video on them and quite like them. They are a bit "heavier" than these ones you reviewed and think more of a "normal" 10% or so drop. I got a much older version of the Sen a few years back but they always came up short and I don't have the option to go up 0.5 size so never really got much use out of them. Whatever even the Adios are quite a shock after much more cushioned shoes. The difference is not always on the run but the soreness in your legs and Achilles in the days after! That said a light shoe makes you want to go fast but can be tricky when get tired. I think that is largely the difference to the Nike ones. "Out of the blocks" these are probably faster but just feel you can keep going longer.

It was the Takumi Sen 5 which can be picked up some places for €100 at the moment depending on size. That particular world record is about 99.5% Rhonex Kipruto though and not so much the shoe. The current marathon world record is about 95% Kipchoge
@TimGrose
@TimGrose 4 жыл бұрын
@@antflynn7 Thanks for clarifying. Not sure would agree with those percentages though. Kipchoge is of course Olympic champion, former World Champion, several other medals in those and won every marathon ever done bar one including 8 majors. You don't do that on only being 95% as good as anybody else.

Tim Grose ah no doubt he is one of the all time greats. I was referring more to his best in the Zoom Streak in his prime was 2:03 and he brought this down to 2:01 with the reduced work load required in the carbon plated VF/Next % on the same course. The 4% came from tests comparing the VF to Zoom Streak and adios boost, so they offer 4% improved running economy which translates to 1-2 mins at the very top end and tends to grow gradually moving towards 3 hour marathon. It’s been proven in multiple tests and a study of global marathon times between 2016 and the end of 2019. So I would give 4-5% of the current marathon world record to the shoe. The adios boost and zoom streak 6 are argued to be 1% shoes at best.
