Adidas Terrex Swift GTX, Keen Targhee III UPDATE! Must watch, Epic Fails?

Will Adidas and Keen shoes hold up under tough conditions? Are they just big names spitting out just "OK" shoes? Well, the first look, first worn reviews have been done months before, but what about an update? Here is the lowdown...

My mum has had bowl and liver cancer.Best positive thoughts to u and family.Great vid .I got the Adidas and i just bought the new Adidas rocktracers.No problem with my shoes but i swapped out the laces for strong round tweed lace from Amazon.Worn most days for nearly a year.I don't go too far though.Mainly short trips to the shops with only minor trails and off road use.

@@douglasbrown9625 Douglas, based upon my comparative analysis and your recommendation I purchased via Amazon Columbia Men's Peakfreak Venture MID Waterproof Omni-Heat Hiking Boot, Cordovan have not received as of yet they say by tomorrow. I am not near as active you are 75 and retired CPA so I should not have a problem these shoes. The key selling point you made that stuck with me was you did not have to reglue the shoes. I hate that. Well, I will let you go. I will drop you a line in a couple of months to update.

I already went past the point of a return on the Adidas, but I wrapped the nylon string with electrical tape to hopefully keep the Gore Tex from ripping. I'll let you know if it works.

You can just cut the laces out and replace them. Use a large yarn needle to thread them through the small lace holes if you can't get them in. Tie-free laces are available to purchase everywhere. I don't have those shoes but that's the first thing I would do if I bought them

Gods, how disappointing about the Targhee 3s! I have a 2E wide foot and was going to get the Targhee 3 Wide (2E), but if it's going to split like that in a few months then it's obviously no-go. Damn it! It's also important they remain intact as the reason I'm looking at leather is for the snake protection in the Australian forests, otherwise I'd be using light trainers. I do daily hiking and have had a few close calls almost treading on elapids on the forest trails, so I want to combine something like a full-leather low-top shoe with my knee-high gaiters. But they have to be 2E wide so it's hard to source. I prefer something as minimal and light as possible, I don't think I even need the waterproofing feature although I will go with it if they are wide and fit and have no other option. But I do need something that has full protection and no mesh so the snakes can't easily bite through. Just full leather alone without the waterproofing would probably be fine, but it also needs to be 2E wide, I have a normal heel but 2E-wide upper foot. I might not even need leather if it's a solid material. For example I think something like the synthetic material in the Targhee 3 Exp would be ok as the synethic upper feels just about as snake-proof as leather. It would also be nice to have something as breathable as possible as it gets hot here in Australia. But obviously there will be a trade-off it I'm looking for a solid upper.

Got the same problem not even walked 100km in them got my money back but ik like them so much i got the mid gtx with normal laces hope dont have the same problem with normal laces

@@equaltemper mine are doing great, wore them as my every day shoes throughout the winter. I like the adjustable laces because I can set it and then just slip the shoes on and off. They do get really hot in the sun though from the gortex, which is a bummer because I’m not able to wear them during the day in summertime.

Good morning. I have not. Sock combination or tighter laces. I also can wear an arch support, but that changes the angles of support. Tighter laces and thicker socks do the trick, but you are right. Just found your chan and after watching 2 of your vids I subbed. I must say I Really enjoyed your style, attention to detail, and honesty! I love the comfort of my Keen shoes and boots but would like them to last longer as well. I am curious what you put your shoes through on a daily basis. I will check out more of your vids to see if I've missed where you discuss your usage regiment. Maybe you could do a vid to let your viewers know what you put your shoes through on a daily basis. Might help your viewers to get an idea of how long the shoes you wear and review will last for them when comparing your usage to theirs. Thanks for sharing on utube!

I found keen way too slippery for the wet rock and etc. I slipped and fall way too much to avoid them entirely. also their durability is horrible just like you showed. I mean I also walk in forest for my work, and they just don't hold up against bushes and rocks even one year!

Hi there. Do the keens get hot? I live in CO and got the merrels moabs for summer hikes but my feet where on fire and got horrible blister so they are going back. Looking at the keens Targhee iii now so wanted to know how’s their ventilation. Any thoughts on that?

I have the one that looks just like this except it doesn’t say swift on it and I have mesh instead of ripstop. And the laces are a little thicker no quick lace system. The shoes just last and last.

Douglas Brown i was almost gonna go with the ones you had but I can’t remember why I had to get the AX1 or whatever it is. Glad I did now that I watch this. It’s basically the same shoe, except without the issue of the lace wearing thru the toe box area.

Would you buy the Swifts R2 again if the laces were fixed, even though they are so hard? How much of a difference is the feel on the Swift once broken in? Would you recommend changing the laces of the Swifts early on to avoid the future tear?

Absolutely! They have other models that the laces are “corrected” however, they still sell the original style! The soles never became soft, but knowing the soles are built for harsh environments, I wear them exclusively in certain places!! The shoes themselves were great, but the Adidas soles on these shoes are very harsh! Take good care!!!!

Holmenkol Natural Active Wax would helped the adidas and the Keen shoes. This Wax is 100% vegan and non-mineral (No Mineral parrafine, No Vaseline, etc.). Compatible with all fabrics and all leather materials and Tech-Membranes (Gore-Tex, Symphatex, etc.). Cleaning leather ist as much as important as cleaning fabrics. Collonil Bamboo Lotion ist the best. The Extract from the Bamboo-plant has some silica-acid, which works like the "cristal-water" created during leather-tanning. If leather gets wet, too wet or stays wet too long "cristal-water" and other leather-tanning gets lost. Leather turns dry and less flexible and stressable. Leather then breaks, shoes rip appart. Stiching/Seams should be treated with wax. Holmenkol Natural Active Wax is the best for this Job. With Collonil Bamboo-Lotion you can Clean the upper and the lining of any shoe.

@@michaadamowicz2148 Yes, this is the solution. In fact the Mid version of the Swift R2 GTX has thicker standard type laces rather than the ultra-thin nylon cord bungee.

@@douglasbrown9625They are a German brand, made in Slovakia. I have a Size 11, MID with Wide width. They tend to run a bit small so get a 1/2 size larger. Been hiking and mountain climbing (3,000 ft), much better than my Merrell MOAB which I used for climbing Mt Fuji. Check out theiir web page lowaboots.com or at REI in Gainesville.

With leather shoe reviews I always am suspect to how the user maintains the footwear. Been watching construction workers spend hundreds on boots and just ignore the leather upper to premature failure. Typically well maintained boots are candidates for resolve with quality leather.Leather requires attention much like skin because well that is what it is.

I think you're a bit of an exaggeration. It's not work shoes, it's waterproof gym shoes, Well, a good review. You just used them for a maximum of a year which is enough for an ordinary person for 3-4 years. The cut that happened to your shoe is because of the wrong closure.

@@douglasbrown9625And the cut that happened to your shoe There are two reasons for this, the sock doesn't fit the shoe, or the size is not so good for you and you just didn't feel it, This does not mean that you are not professional, I just worked a lot in the industry and wore the cheapest and most expensive shoes and I never had anything like that and that is the conclusion. By the way, this is the only model with half size (40/50) (41/50) ...... This is rare, and it seems to have a reason.✌
