Lead actresses Aditi Rao Hydari, Sharmin Segal and Richa Chadha speak about their experiences of playing courtesans and reuniting with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Heeramandi on Netflix.
Bhansali's digital debut Heeramandi is a fictional series on Netflix set against the Indian independence movement against the British Raj in the 1940s. It revolves around the tawaifs living in the red-light district of Heera Mandi in Lahore (current day, Pakistan). The scheming Mallikajaan (Manisha Koirala) rules over an elite house of courtesans - but a new rival threatens her reign as rebellion brews in British-ruled India. Principal actors also include Sanjeeda Shaikh and Sonakshi Sinha. Also actors Taha Shah Badussha, Adhyayan Suman, Shekhar Suman and Fardeen Khan.
