This is a time lapse of me removing a 3.0l Audi A6 C5 Quattro engine, transmission, k frame, and suspension assembly from a crashed Audi A6 Quattro C5. I was not able to remove the Audi A6 3.0 engine in the traditional manner because the front bumper support was pushed over from the accident. This is not a 'how to' video but can be useful for reference while removing your own engine.

Thanks Gary! I'm getting ready to swap engines in a 2004 Passat 2.8L 4-Motion wagon and this, DEFINITELY, looks to be the easiest way to do it. My hand are much larger than yours and I dread all the scrapes and cuts of conventionally lifting the engine out...and replacing it the same way. Much appreciated!

You're welcome! However the easiest and proper way is to take the front bumper off and slide the engine out of the front, I lifted the body up because I couldn't get the front bumper off because it was smashed and the bolts were bent lol. Best of luck and thanks for watching!

This site (www.blauparts.com/search.php?q=VW+Passat+2.8L+engine+removal ) gave great instructions and video for removing the bumper but failed miserably at instructions for removing the engine. Your video made it look like a walk in the park! Now I am looking forward to tackling the job! Thanks again! Brian

Brian Kratzer Cheers!...also with the bumper off, you won't have to remove the whole subframe and wheels like I did....just the 2 motor mounts on the engine and possible transmission mount if there is one

#1 thing to understand before you hit the thumbs down is that the front bumper was crushed in and could not be removed! If you don't like the music turn it down. This is not a how-to. Thanks for watching.

how did you disconnect the shifter linkage runnings down to the trans?? im currently stuck with the engine sitting on the floor and the trans stuck

some great music! that's pretty cool on how the whole assembly can come out the bottom . Im surprised you didn't smash your knuckles on anything lol I know I did with my Windsor lol .

jimbo booth thanks man! My hands are cut and banged up a little, but not as much as usual lol. Typically the whole front bumper assembly comes off and these engines can be slid out the front with the suspension assembly left on. My bumper was smashed over so I couldn't get it off so I had to do it this way lol.

thanks haha...i was out of town for a few days...it was easier than usual because I didn't have to detach the trans first...and i wasn't trying to preserve any hoses or anything...but it did take like 7 hours

+Gian Santiago I don't know about the diesel engine mounts, but the ones on this 3.0 V6 were the same on both sides....the engine basically sits on top of them.

a DIY Car Guy its an 2005 one and yes i believe its the electronic ones as my OBD scanner was able to detect it... i didnt know that they are electronically stiffened thought the cable was just a sensor to detect if it has gone bad... well i already ordered one so i might ask my mechanic to check the other one too

Newer Audis have electro-hydraulic mounts, that "adjust stiffness according to engine load to minimise movement to maximise torque transfer"....it basically uses a solenoid to adjust the flow of hydraulic fluid between two fluid chambers. I think that's what you might have.

if anyone wants one of these cars I can get one running and driving good body good interior but it keeps throwing the front serpentine belt will sell for 2500 for parts or driver live in oregon i like my old chevy's and fords

You could have done the job much faster by chaining the ass end of the car to a tree and attaching the engine to a large chain and dump truck. That way, after you're done 'pulling out' the power unit, you wouldn't have very far to go with it - the dump truck would be able to dispose of it easily from there. I've seen a lot of back yard hacks doing stupid things, but dragging an engine on the ground to free it from a chassis - that's a first. Is this a video to teach people how NOT to remove an engine?

+villastrangiato The engine is attached to a subframe, which is attached to the wheels, so the whole assembly actually rolled out, if you didn't see. No damage was done to the engine, as it is on top of the subframe. The engine was not "disposed" of. The engine was sold so it could not be damaged. The rope was attached to the subframe. The engine was not "dragged in order to free it" from the chassis, it was freed (unbolted) from the chassis FIRST, and THEN the chassis was lifted out of the way; and THEN the subframe and engine assembly was pulled out from under the chassis. Typically the engine on an Audi is pulled out from the front (not from the top), but this car was hit in the front and the bumper support was stuck on, so the chassis had to be lifted and the engine slid out from under it. There are many vehicles that require the chassis to be lifted up to remove engines. Hopefully now you have gained some real experience.

Holy Shit! You have to disassemble the whole front end just to get to the Transmission! No wonder why they want 6-8k to replace transmissions on these cars. Leave it to the Germans to make a simple thing overly complicated. Still love ma Audi's tho.....
