Hello teacher! I was studing the adjectives order, and I found a diferent order from yours. Your order Determiners Opinion Size Shape * Age * Color Origin Material Porpouse But others sources Determiners Opinion Size Age * Shape * Color Origin Material Porpouse Wich sequence is correct? Thank you
@LearnEnglishLab
@LearnEnglishLab 4 жыл бұрын
Adjective order is not a fixed rule; there is some flexibility in how adjectives can be ordered, so you will see different rules in different sources. The important thing is to have a general sense for adjective order, so you that you can notice it in real-life texts (i.e. in reading and listening). See these two sources below that give the same order as mine: dictionary.cambridge.org/grammar/british-grammar/adjectives-order learnenglish.britishcouncil.org/english-grammar-reference/adjective-order

@LearnEnglishLab
@LearnEnglishLab 7 жыл бұрын
You make a good point. And you might be correct but there's actually some flexibility in the order of adjectives. With age and shape there isn't complete agreement among grammarians on which should come first. One reason might be that these two don't go together very often. It could also be because in different situations, different arrangements sound correct. For example, "A new rectangular football field" sounds correct (age before shape) but "A round vintage flower pot" also sounds correct (shape before age), possibly because the word 'vintage' which shows age forms a noun phrase with 'flower pot.'

I have been watching your grammar lessons for quite a long time. It has been very useful for my personal growth as well as for teaching students. I still haven't given up my learning habits. I always had difficulty in arranging string of adjectives to describe a noun know matter how hard I try. But after this video, I think I will have to put less effort in arranging them from now onwards. Thanks for being my mentor.

Thank You Ganesh, Especially for making it easy to UNDERSTAND for an OLD JOCK like myself. I was a terrible student because I thought more about Sports than school. It was sad for my Mother because she was a Special Needs Teacher in Elementary School. She made the Decision to have me repeat the Fourth grade mostly because my English studies were so poor. I played for the Oakland Raiders from 1978 to 1982 then returned to Wichita State University to finish my degree in General Studies. I have always wanted to Write A Book, My Sister was an amazing Writer and she always gave me the INSPIRATION to write. She read much of my writing and was very Enthused and Complimentary about it. But I know NOTHING about how to go about doing it. ANY SUGGESTIONS. Thank You John Parker
@LearnEnglishLab
@LearnEnglishLab 5 жыл бұрын
Hello John, Thank you for the comment. Very interesting to hear of your experiences! It's wonderful that you are thinking of writing a book. Now, being an ESL teacher, I cannot pretend to be an expert on the subject of writing books. But, I would strongly recommend that you start by reading an introductory guide; for example, _Writing Fiction for Dummies_ might be a good starting point if you're planning to write fiction. There are plenty of resources for writers available on the internet today. If you do a Google (or even KZbin) search for 'how to write a book', you will find lots of them. You might also find it helpful to join writing groups, either online or in your local area. Networking with fellow aspiring writers is a great way to stay informed and motivated. One thing I would like to suggest is to just write! Many writers have a minimum word count that they force themselves to write every day as a way of getting over writer's block. I've heard that Stephen King recommends new writers to shoot for at least 1,000 words per day. Basically, the idea is that you just put pen to paper and write whatever comes to mind without critiquing any of it. I have a lesson on the process of writing that you might glean some ideas from: kzbin.info/www/bejne/moXCdWluh69oipo Best wishes, Ganesh

Instead of saying "Maya is taller than Sarah", could one say "Maya is much taller than Sarah"? I know it's redundant but is it incorrect?
@LearnEnglishLab
@LearnEnglishLab 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can say that, and in fact, it's not redundant at all. Because 'much taller' means 'a lot taller'. Much is used as an intensifier; another common intensifier is 'far': 'far taller' (which, although grammatically correct sounds unnatural in 'far taller' when referring to human beings) :)

Hello Teacher Ganesh, The explanations of using Adjective in sentences are very insightful. The given examples are clear and concise. Thus, it esaily makes one to have an overview of the adjective. Would you minding making a video lesson about the use of the combined words " ....many more, ....much more ... " in sentences. I often get confused of using these words in building sentences and even don`t know it grammatical structure. I would be so much obliged to you. I look forward to seeing you soon. Thanks & regards, Fazil
