Adjustable Back Stay Project - 1989 Precision 18 - Sail La Vie

I am looking at doing this for my San Juan 21. I have seen some resources that say that you need a cable backup to ensure that you do not let the adjustable backstay off too far and invert the mast. Was this something you saw? How do you keep the mast from going too far forward? Great video and thank you.

I never had any issues of the mast falling forward if the backstay was to loose. I had a knot tied in the end to prevent the worse case scenario but I only had to loosen it a little bit to give myself enough play to install the forestay/rolling furller. Matt, Just wondering if you winter the boat on trailer at home and moor the boat during the season? Kayak access seemed like a good idea if you keep it at an off shore mooring.

Exactly Jason. I moor her during season and then she is kept on the trailer in my garage in the off season. The kayak is a bit tricky to move from into the boat and then out of of but I make it work and it is light and easy to paddle. Everything is a compromise of pros and cons.
