I've done a lot of experimentation with this subject recently because I was struggling with popping and catching my kickflips as high as I used to when I was in my prime before my ankle injury. Back in the days all I would skate were mellow shapes and I had no problem catching my flip tricks at the apex of my airs, but after getting back into skating in my 30's and having a weaker ankle due to my injury all of my tricks were sandbagging and I felt I could never get a proper satisfying catch no matter how hard I would snap the tail and how fast I would flick the board. It wasn't until I tried out my brothers board that had way steeper kicks than what I was used to that I instantly felt a world of difference in my ollies and kickflips, so I decided to buy one of my own. The amount of force needed to do tricks and the timing just felt more natural for some reason, almost as if the handicap of my weaker old man legs were being balanced out by the slight increase in force I needed to use to pop the tail. Because I'm older, steeper kicks definitely fixed my skating. It almost feels like its cheating sometimes! But hey whatever works for you and makes you happy, sick video :)

I would love to see how different tail shapes affect pop behavior in the simulation. Maybe even some specific ones like the Andy Anderson boards, 80s directional boards, and the weird shapes Mark Gonzales rides!

Gonz is riding his own handmade decks, Wide AF!!! And NO Concave Whatsoever! I mean Side to Side concave. I know he uses a Big Ol' Fish(tail) w/ shovel/snub type nose. 15 wb minimum

For real-world applications, try thin strips of perforated stainless steel sheets bent at different angles. You can apply longer ones on the bottom and shorter ones on top of the board and tail/nose. 2- 3 at the top and 2-3 at the bottom should be enough. Just apply new angles for a different pitch.

Would be interesting to also be able to test the wheelbase to "tailbase" (the point where the tail angle actually starts) may be interesting I know element used to play with it for the "delayed pop" technology If this works the way I think it does the board should lift up as slow as a steeper tail angle with a mellower actual angle

Maybe also riser pads… 1/4 inch riser pads would not be such significance but if you decide to install 3/8 or 1/2 inch riser pads plays a roll in pop timing. I ride 1/2 inch riser because I love loose trucks and transition to 1/2 inch risers the pop delay was way different compared to having a 1/4 riser.

You could put a shim in the gap to prevent it from collapsing. If you want to try this in the real world. Glue, wood, plastic. Anything

Shallow tails pop higher, hence why the nose is usually raised more (for easier flipping). This simulation doesnt really prove anything since the force applied by a bouncing ball is very different to that of a properly timed pop. Force appied by a foot should accelerate as the tail moves down but the ball transfers all its force at the start of the pop and then bounces off. I love that you're turning into a science though, keep it up.
