What I have been doing is when I KNOW that I have thrown a really good shot and the does something unexpected. Like runs up deep and maybe still strikes but I feel like I got away with one. If I've already moved left as much as I'm willing to I've got about 1.5 more speed to play with, I'll use that among others before I will actually change balls. Almost as if you'd read my mind...i was thinking just yesterday that, as good as Angel bowls, her speed and rev rate is so slow that its hard to really imagine how a ball might look for me as a 2 handed righty. Your look was better, but of course you bowl left handed, so the introduction of the new guy is much more applicable to me, and i still have the benefit of your SUPERB analysis! Now, all that aside, i LOVE this ball transition video! Ive been looking for aomething like this and they just don't really exist. Anyway, it was just perfect. I think we're going to do that next time, I'll have him throw like one shot of everything on the fresh, then progress through transition, then show one shot of everything on the mega burn at the end. He'd have been pretty far right with the Hyped.
@jameskniffenjr.12442 жыл бұрын
On the dead fresh I probably would have had a strike-or-6-count (aka, great or awful) type of ball reaction. I'm not sure how much this shows through in the video but I was struggling to get my Infinite PhysiX started and my IQTS had zero chance of picking up in the right spot from the few test shots I threw before we started filming. In situations like that, I struggle to make very weak balls work well especially when there's a substantial amount of friction to the right on house shots. If I were actually bowling for score in this situation, I probably would have gone Infinite -> Zen Soul -> Nova... Infinite to create traction on the fresh (this lane was quite tight), Zen Soul to blend out the track (since the Axiom was borderline too much ball), then Nova (which is a weaker cover and stronger core from the Soul) once the Soul got a touch lazy. Bit of a up-down-sideways progression but realistically that's probably how I would have managed it if I were going for score instead of showing a more linear top-to-bottom progression if that makes sense.
@TonyChin1072 жыл бұрын

@ShimWreckerEnterprises2 жыл бұрын
Angel and Luke obviously have very different skillsets from me, so the way we approach transition is usually different. For me it's just "move an arrow left and hit it harder and it'll probably strike" LOL My rev rate definitely highlights ball-to-ball differences a bit more, but there's also something to be said for managing things on a more subtle level like how Luke and Angel do if that makes sense.

Yes to both! There's definitely value in it because higher rev bowlers like James can just keep moving left, but that's not the best option for lower rev or straighter bowlers because they lose ball reaction and carry quick. Conversely, on the left side of the lane, we have a lot less carrydown and it doesn't behave like it does on the right side, so those videos are definitely coming!

Could someone explain to me what Luke means he says the axiom controls the lane "front to back"? I've learned a ton from these videos but I haven't hard this concept explained.
@LukeRosdahl2 жыл бұрын
The Axiom is a stronger and more controllable ball. Instead of over skidding in oil and being too sharp on the dry, it gets enough traction in the oil to blend the lane and control the reaction better. Weaker balls can skid too far in the oil or be too sharp on the dry which makes them sensitive. Generally you want the ball to start slowing down towards the end of the lane so that it can start getting ready to make its move. Some oil patterns are designed to make this more difficult, for example having a ball overhook, and then you move inside a bit, and then all the sudden it underhooks. The Axiom gets enough traction to keep it from underhooking, while the control helps keep it from overhooking, or at least to the point that you can find a middle ground and aren't stuck with over/under ball reaction. Controlling the lane front to back means the ball can manage the stages of ball motion better because it's more in control, it's not as reactive to wet and dry. Controlling it side to side means that a ball can get back from misses right without overskidding OR rolling out, and can also hold more on misses inside. The Axiom tends to read/roll at the same length down the lane whether you're playing straighter or deeper, it starts slowing down and making the transition through the stages of ball motion better than most other balls.

Where do you go to find the strength of coverstocks compared to other brands? all the brand sites I look at have their own metrics for determining strength and its hard to compare through descriptions. I'm trying to build my first real arsenal around a new ball I got because I'm having a big problem with the transition. The other balls in my bag are just too weak to cover the transition from a familiar spot for me. When I start overhooking and moving left and get a tight line, if i switch to my next strongest ball, i still need to move right into an unfamiliar part of the lane. When i do move right, it takes me too long to find my line with my weaker balls. Any advice appreciated :)

You can't really find anything to compare them from brand to brand, unfortunately it's largely experience based and finding people that you hopefully trust to help you out. This is more of a find a better local bowler or talk to someone at the pro shop about getting you lined up. The bowling equipment learning curve is fairly steep and it'll be hard to figure it out yourself

@@LukeRosdahl I appreciate the reply nonetheless. I used to bowl on my pro shop guys team in league so he used to help me out, but ive moved to a small town and there's few high average bowlers out here :P apparently the tang brothers arent too far away and they do some stuff with balls, a friend told me about it so i'll give that a try when i have the time i suppose

I would love to see a video like this but with hammer family equipment

Luke's on staff with Storm so you're probably in the wrong place for that to happen :)

As a lefty, I'm curious about this word "transition"? What does it mean? 😀

Where would the astro physics and the x2 fit into this line up
@LukeRosdahl2 жыл бұрын
Both would be in Nova territory, similar cover strengths, just a bit more length and shape vs the Nova
@ShimWreckerEnterprises2 жыл бұрын
If I were to insert one of those into a bag like this, that'd probably be as a mid-block transition piece. Both of those are slightly weaker covers and more dynamic cores versus both of the Zens so when I struggle to get those down the lane something like an Astro or X2 would probably be in play for me. The Nova is kinda a similar concept just a bit earlier because it's a slightly stronger formula and a bit of surface vs the Astro/X2. Hope that makes sense!

From the amount of comments it's safe to say Kniffen is #bowlingfamous-ish. 😂

I would like to see, at the end of the video, what happens if you ball back up to one of the balls at the beginning of the video. I mean i know what theoretically should happen, but I would like the see it in a video

Dang I just gotta buy (and somehow carry) 10 balls and I'll be a good bowler 🤣 good informative video though it's hard to justify changing balls to your teammates when you're striking but this reinforces the hunches I have when my ball is clearly hooking too early

This is cool to see. His rev rate is even higher than mine and I'm 2 handed. But he is throwing it at around the same spot that I do. It's kinda weird being so much further left than where nost everyone else bowls, so watching what they do helps me 0.

Great video. But I think should start with the nova and than ball down to the infinite. The core of the nova wants to start the roll early
@LukeRosdahl2 жыл бұрын
The Infinite cover formula is much stronger though, and the Infinite core is also stronger than the Nova, so the Infinite is the stronger ball by quite a bit
@ShimWreckerEnterprises2 жыл бұрын
The Nova does have a slightly earlier-rolling core and layout, yes... but the Infinite has a MUCH stronger cover (as Luke accurately noted) so that's the top-of-the-bag piece when I need traction and blend+tumble... the Nova as you can see is much more sensitive to oil than the Infinite so isn't a good choice as a top-of-the-bag cut-through-oil ball like what you're suggesting.
