When in a drag application, most setups either have a significant squat or anti-squat (separation) that needs to be taken into consideration as well. Originally setting up coil over suspension its said that the threads can be used anywhere and have the same spring rate and its "Just ride height", which in theory is correct, but you also need to consider a car that separates or squats where you're at in the threads or visible shock shaft to avoid toping out or bottoming out your shock.

i have a 70 chevelle bbc. The owner has huge 22" wheels and it rubs on corners and on bumps. How do i stiffen the rear so that it barely moves? will the rck52341 WORK?

If you have a helper spring, that's not fully compressed at max droop/rebound, moving the spring seat will do nearly no change. You have almost 0 preload. A 50lb preload on an 800lb corner does nothing (6.25% raise) for ride height.

I was hoping that raising my front 2.0 fox coilovers would help stop the front shocks jump every time I go over a sharp bump at slow speed .

I have a QA1 TCI 3/8shaft 10.1/4 closed 14.5 open I need at least 1.5"' lift , 450lbs. I did adjust to max but still too low, is there some kind of spacer I can add? car is a replica, not racing or daily driven. it is an old part but was never driven or used. thanks.

I have a question in regards of lifting and spring, if I add length to the strut outside the spring section, let says welded a 1" rod between the base and lower eye, will this give me 1" lift only? or same effect as adding a spacer? and will it add pressure on the spring or will doesn't effect it at all?

This could affect the spring. I would recommend reaching out to our tech team for some advice and recommendations. 952-985-5675 or Sales@QA1.net.

So if I tighten or compress the spring it will lower the car correct? Any idea if I tighten the seat one inch will it lower it a. Inch? Or do I have to play with it?
@rwest5386
@rwest5386 Жыл бұрын
No. if you raise the lower spring perch, you are not compressing the spring more than just the weight of the car sitting on it, until you get to the point that the shock is fully extended, at which point, the shock would no longer have any bump travel and then the spring would start to compress more. So, under all normal use, if you move the perch up one inch, you raise the car one inch and if you lower the perch one inch, you lower the car, one inch. Imagine you have a spring in your hand and a ball sitting on top the spring, the spring has compressed under the weight of the ball but if you raise your hand, the spring doesn't compress any more, until the ball bumps against the ceiling, at which point the ball stops moving up and the spring starts to compress more.

@rwest5386 Жыл бұрын
@James Beaubien Either would make a change but by going to a 1" longer 600lbs spring, you would be raising the car 1". If you went to a 2" longer spring, you could lower the perch by 1/2" and be 1.5" higher. In answer to the 700lbs spring part of the ?? it would depend on how much weight you have sitting on the spring. If you had 700lbs sitting on a 600lbs spring, it compressed 700/600=1,1667", so switching to a 700lbs spring would only raise it .1667". I will say that this all assumes that you have a motion Ratio of 1 or nearly 1, as in a strut type suspension, so, in the end, you will need to know/calculate your motion ratio and apply the appropriate math. There are videos on KZbin to help you do that but if you have a popular car, the chances are, someone has already done that and posted it on a forum, about that car.

Nonsense, once you wind up that spring the car will ride alot more harshly. Been there and done that
@JusSkott

You'll have more of a dramatic change in ride / quality handling with different spring rates. Example old S13 had 18k/16k spring rates. Uncomfortable at 35mph and below. 55mph plus road better and handled better. On my 79 impala, compressing 550lb springs had absolutely no difference in quality or handling. Which why I'm looking for something more than 750lb springs offered.

It was not a misconception,this guy does not know what he is talking about. Compressing the spring will make your car higher and your ride harder. I just did my shocks and did a 1 inch preload plus about another half inch, set the car down , the shocks were topped out , i had to undo the spring nut about half inch to have the shock sag for a half inch.

I have a 1972 el Camino having tire clearance issues with the tire hitting the 1/4 panel when cornering. I have a sway bar as well the elcaminos just have bad body roll in general. I have 29x11.50-15 quick time pro tires ( went with a narrower tire than i previously had they are tucked underneath the vehicle and in the wheel well ) spring seat was adjusted all the way up and i sill needed about 1" more clearance so the tires didn't rub when cornering. A tech told me to purchase shock extension ( 9032-203 part number) it brought the vehicle up to a good riding height tires shouldent be rubbing anymore but the spring itself is compressed more than previously. is it a concern with having the spring compressed a significant amount around 50%. ( spring rate is 150 it gave me all the required amount of shock travel before putting the extension on.) I also cant change tire height as car is set up for 1/8 mile with 4.56 gear ratio needing the taller tire to get down the track/streetablity. would it have been a better idea to just go with a stiffer spring rather than the shock extension could that have eliminated the body roll enough to make it work?
