Maria Davis-Pierre, LMHC, president and CEO of Autism in Black, says that unlike many other Black families who often feel shame and stigma in the wake of their child's autism diagnosis, she did not because she related to her children's behavior. As it turned out, she related to them because she, herself, had autism, which was diagnosed when she was 37.
