Years ago I owned a small publishing company that published genre fiction books in print and in full cast dramatized audio. We had some military and technothriller titles that had weapons fire. The stock audio gunshots were... not right. So, went out and had a huge range day, cleaning out the gunsafe and recorded from different angles and distances to build our own library. Sadly, I don't have the library anymore, but it was a heck of a fun day doing it.

This is a fun movie. It doesn't pretend to be anything it isn't. It's an OTT action movie that is probably just a little below John Wick but it's still pretty top tier. I'm really liking these movies done by stunt coordinators. As for the "girl boss" scene, she was kept pretty grounded when compared to so many other tough girl movie chicks. She's gets totally beat up (and stabbed) and doesn't so much overpower them but sort of dances around them. She's shooting around their armor, uses the broken glass to her advantage and is sort of dancing around them. Realistic? Nope but it wasn't Comic Book Movie levels of ridiculous. As for another movie where the gun play might be somewhat more grounded (but still ridiculous in its own way), Way of the Gun comes to mind.
@CheSteRBesTeR1 Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't use realistic as much as I would say improbable. An average girl would get bodied but if she's above average and using weapons I see it being PLAUSABLE. I hate this comparison of protagonists being compared to the average person. Your hero's aren't the average person so stop comparing them to average. Its like saying the average man is just like Mike Tyson.

Former Navy helicopter Aircrewman / Door Gunner, and now currently a civilian helicopter mechanic. Yes, true that most helicopters, even military ones, won’t have armor, unless they are actively training or operating in tactical missions. But, most helicopters have laminated Lexan windscreens. Those windscreens are as lightweight as they can be made, but they’re still pretty durable, considering it’s the most exposed part of the helicopter. As we all know, Lexan is not the worst material for slowing down bullets. Nothing I can verify, but facing directly into someone shooting .45 acp from a decent distance would be that pilot’s best tactic. Depending on how much energy the bullet loses over that distance, it’s entirely conceivable that the laminated Lexan windscreen could stop that slow moving round. Also, minigun was my specialty. To my knowledge, the backpack mounted minigun uses 5.56. Mounted miniguns use 7.62. I can’t see a human even shooting the full-sized, M134D 7.62 minigun in any handheld mode successfully. This is coming from someone with over 100,000 rounds from the GAU-17 (Navy’s M134D), and 0 rounds from the backpack mounted one. Lastly, helicopters are shockingly durable to multiple bullet holes overall. I already talked about Lexan windscreens. Weirdly, being a big hollow aluminum can helps it. Even shooting 1,000 rounds at a helicopter, the odds of any one bullet hitting something in the body of the helicopter that truly matters is extremely low. Think of it like trying to hit an important part of a crane with a bullet. Yeah, you’ll hit it, but how many glancing hits, ricochets, and general holes can you hit that skeletal crane structure with and the crane is still there? Even blades will have entire missing sections, bullet holes, and damage that makes the blade utterly unrepairable. Yet, the pilots flew it home without even knowing it was damaged. It’s hollowness is an asset. Something I like about how he shoots down these helicopters is he either hits the pilot with something with enough energy to penetrate the windscreen and still kill the pilot, or they show a truly important component, like the gearbox, sustaining damage. The case of a gearbox is nigh on impenetrable. The amount of energy and chaos contained inside the case of any of the 3 typical gear boxes in a helicopter’s drivetrain is massive. For that reason, those gear boxes have very durable cases. But, if you do manage to damage it enough (the hydraulics controlling the rotor system, the input modules powering the gearbox, a bullet that makes it through one of the many intentional holes in the gear box (such as chip detectors, drain plugs, coolant passages, etc), the accessory module mounted to the gearbox), then you really do have a great chance of causing the helicopter to crash. No engines = not that big of a deal. No gearbox = unrecoverable crash and burn!

Admin: PLEASE watch/review ‘Way of the Gun’ starring Benicio Del Toro & Ryan Phillipe and also James Caan. directed by Cristopher Mcquarrie, guy who did Usual Suspects. It is genuinely one of the best ever depictions of gun fighting. The danger and damage being depicted beautifully. Every bullet matters. the manipulation is perfect for the time (del toro does a badass shotgun reload) and they never fire more than the mag capacity. Cover and suppression is always used and the two leads are squared away with their tactics (Shoot-Move-Communicate is displayed beautifully) always covering each other etc. Its a real cult classic and relatively unknown but i put it up next to HEAT as a top tier gun guy film. James Caan’s ‘Thief’ fucks as well with an incredible shootout at the end.!

Honestly this is the first movie in a while where there a woman fighting a man or men in this case where I feel like she was the realistic element in the scene. The guys were tanking multiple rounds at point blank range and multiple stab wounds so I think there isn't as much feminism going on as you might think. If this was the worst example of "girl boss" in movies we would be much better of as a movie going society.
@jki808 Жыл бұрын
It wasn’t “realistic” but none of the movie really is. I think they did a good job of making that scene as realistic as it could’ve been. If you really inspect it, you’ll see she’s much faster and deadlier with the guns and blades she has and unleashes it all immediately injuring or killing everybody at the start of the fight. There are a few moments where she seemingly “out strengths” the guys which is absolutely ridiculous. We are talking about a pencil thin woman against spooky ops guys but given the nature of their wounds and the infrequency of those moments, the fights not bad as a whole.

She’s also built like a brick shithouse so yeah that makes sense. She’s like 5’10 160. I disagree. Realistically, she would only be able to get a couple of rounds into the first guy, hit the plate, and then she'd be dead, but even if we're being charitable, after she shoots the second guy, the first guy grabs her. Then, she literally girlbosses her way out of it. The guy grabs her arm, and isn't strong enough to get her gun and take her down? she just pistol whips him in the head and it gets even more ridiculous after that.

The train “girl boss” scene is definitely the best “girl boss” scene I can think of in modern hollywood. She didn’t win with strength. She won by being smarter and disabling them any way she could, and they made it very obvious she was likely going to die if she had missed her shots or failed to lacerate different appendages and tendons. We can all argue that it would have been over faster or whatever, but we just watched an army shoot at Tyler, and miss, and a one take of Tyler fistfighting a prison. I can give them some leeway with Nik. I would rather see scenes like this being empowering to girls than the garbage spewed in Barbie.

Think about it, you were just passed out, woke up, half beaten to death, have to point up and shoot one handed, it’s very possible…I think. It’s also a good twist instead of the usual main characters friend showing up out of nowhere and just running out of ammo which is what usually happens and is always predictable. Then, she’s trying to clear the jam with one hand but can’t. Just thought it was a cool attention to detail.

Both of the extraction movies were awesome I hope they make a third to continue the story

That definitely hit me in the feels. I hate movies where guns do not sound like they do in real life. How hard would it be to fly from California to Texas (I mean, most of them already fled to Austin), rent some fully automatic (semi-semi-automatic) guns, and record the sound they make? Indoor range, outdoor range. Done. Then we get to the pretend recoil impact with actors looking completely stupid while shooting 5.56 with negligible recoil and looking like they just fired a .50 BMG.

I was genuinely impressed with how well the guns sound in this movie. The prison riot scene was one of the best overall scenes I've watched in a long time. I love that gun culture is taking over Hollywood.

They did slip a little, having him with the magnifier up while CQB’ing through the prison. You would obviously kick that to the side for faster engagements

I was surprised by the movie, while not exact it's much more "realistic" then most hollywood stuff. No crazy car explosions, etc. I enjoy it! edit: the bike take out with the SUV was unlike holywood and awesome.

The prison scene when it drops from the 2 floor all the way to the end of the train scene is a 21 minute long one take. Zero cuts

Great video & rundown on your thoughts, and it's funny because I totally didn't noticed the suppressed shots indoors when they weren't using one...

the sheer amount of henchmen and helicopt the antagonist has at his disposal requires a suspension of disbelief
