I found out from my grandfather who put together a family tree that I am very very very distantly related to him. Still can't believe he is a kind of major part of history.

Very interesting. The Scilly Isle inhabitants thought it manna from heaven when all the bodies and wreckage were washed up on the shore, for them to loot. The body of the admiral getting particularly unpleasant treatment, to remove a valuable ring from his finger. If you happen to be in Hastings, it’s worth taking a look at the ancient little house of his mother, on (or near) All Saints St.

Sir CS is my 6th great-grand uncle! Re Hastings, to the best of my knowledge and belief, my great x 7 grandmother, Anne, Sir CS' mother, did not live in Hastings. Quaint though this is, I believe it to be the stuff of legend. She was from Norfolk and married secondly, John Flaxman, my 7 x great grandfather. Their daughter, Ann, my 6 x great grandmother, was thus Sir CS' half-sister. She married my 6 x great grandfather, Thomas Shorting, a collector of customs in Cley-next-the-sea. They are buried in All Saints Church, Morston, Norfolk.

@@richard9480 Are you sure about this? The building has lettering on the front, specifically mentioning it was his mother’s house…

@@richard9480 Thank you for the info & how interesting to have Sir CS as an ancestor. I know Cley and that area of North Norfolk well. A 'Happy Easter' to you also.

@@VincentComet-l8e Thank you, Lawrie. I know that property but to the best of my knowledge and belief, there was no connection between my 7 x great grandmother and Hastings. Happy Easter.

What ship are you standing in?

Richard is standing in the captain's cabin of HMS Trincomalee, the last remaining Royal Navy ship to be built in India, as well as being the oldest floating British warship and the last of Admiral Lord Nelson’s Frigates. The ship is at the National Museum of the Royal Navy Hartlepool, a fascinating place to visit.
