Mutiny: The British Navy: from longships to battleships, part 18

Mutiny, a capital offence in the Royal Navy, was uncommon but by the 1790s discontent amongst ordinary seamen was widespread. A combination of cramped living conditions, longer time spent at sea and harsh discipline, contributed to problems at a time when sailors’ pay had been severely eroded by inflation.

Roy Christian a writer and lecturer was a relative of Fletcher Christian I knew him very well as I used to take my mother to his talks and stay overnight at her home and also went on village talks he used to hold around Derbyshire . One I remember was at Ticknall .
