As someone who just went through something very similar recently, and I recently lost my best friend in February due to it (not to say you're that bad or anything), I urge you to bite the bullet and work on it. It doesn't replace the graphic designer (until it's made so simple that our clients can use it themselves don't forget) but what about all the professional photographers, lettering artists and 3d artists who's work was used as learning models to teach these AI engines to do what we want? What about their careers? Whether you like it or not it's coming for us!

Just saw a video where a graphic designer lost his job due to being replaced by AI, a model that was trained by the designer unwittingly. It is actively replacing us, and its so sad. Poor dude is now having to hope he can get a new position after 7 years or so at that firm all because a computer is now able to do our jobs cheaper
@reuterss306

@@NomadicSims If you are a graphic designer who can be completely replaced by AI, you are a pretty bad graphic designer tbh. Please link the video you mentioned, because I am working in graphic design for many years and AI is not even close to touch my job. All it does is speeding up my workflow, but its still years or decades away to do what a real human is capable of. Until then we got enough time to adapt and find our niche. Even though AI is one if not THE biggest thing in human history ever, it is normal that jobs get replaced (industrial evolution etc etc). The positives that AI brings outweighs the negative a LOT, if people learn how to use it correctly.

@@reuterss306 i think you are possibly the most naive human being I have ever spoken to, and also have a massive ego to boot. I would never work with someone like you and your work is probably uninspired and basic because i doubt you take criticism well. Critically think for two seconds. Look at how swiftly AI images have developed in the last YEAR. Its insanity. They have gotten good, good enough to fool a huge portion of the population and is only being worked on harder. In the next year, designers will absolutely be replaceable by AI. And they will be, because its cheaper for companies to tell a computer to do it instead. I like this approach to using ai. Not an outright replacement for more advanced tools with more control. Like any other tool, it depends on the restraint of the artist. You "Could" design everything 100% with ai but it's not wise in the long run. I do disagree with words like "realistic" and "excitement" being used to sell this tho. On further inspection the images still have an uncanny-valley feeling, and it's not as if it makes the artwork "Better". Wish people trying to sell ai would just calm down a bit.

@@Leadership_matters Or, they actually won't and there'll be a plethora of derivative guff by simply voice-prompting "Can you make an image of that looks like ." Having had the "Can we just make it like the whatever…" 'brief', or its current trend equivalent, I think that perhaps 80 percent plus of clients may be happily served by an AI which facilitates that. There's so much value in being able to generate assets with minimal friction; and an 'AI art-director' to bring some flair and unity is surely but moments away. All great in one sense, but on aggregate making it ever hard for things to achieve cut through perhap? Everybody is freaking out about AI taking over their jobs, chill out, this is just a tool for us designer, things are changing and we need to follow it's rhythm. @thejagman22
@thejagman22 15 күн бұрын
Of course what you're saying is correct, we now have no choice but to collaborate with this thing, that's unquestionable. We'd only be making ourselves unemployable if we refused to engage with it. HOWEVER... Any new technology that massively affects productivity in the way that AI does will always lead to fewer people ultimately being required to do the work. It's basic economics - if a job that used to take 3 designers 5 days can now be done by say 1 designer in 2 just days, that means 2 designers are out of a job entirely, and one can only charge for a fraction of the time they could have in the past. Now be honest - is your employer absolutely giddy with excitement when it comes to the topic of AI? Yeah, there's a reason for that, friend - productivity UP, employees required DOWN. Pay less, get more, faster. Go, capitalism! It will also inevitably mean there will be an expectation on those of us that still have jobs to do MORE in LESS time. We were never consulted about any of this, it just 'happened' AND to add insult to injury - our work has probably been used to train various AI models without our consent.

AI is actually pushing the need for talent at the moment, because these hyper-realistic images are now being presented to clients as mock-ups and they do not accept anything less quality-wise. Therefore, you are going to need someone highly talented and skilled to create the mock-up and have full control over it, because the client can be specific and that is where AI cannot help. Additionally, AI is terrible at animations at the moment, so if the final requirement is an animated or VFX scene, then 100% you are going to need the right person. In a way, AI is creating more opportunities for talented artists. Speaking from real-world professional work experience.

Nobody: I want to make 3D art but I have no will to learn. 2024 Creative industry: let's make it so people want to learn new workflows and invest time in understanding a machine trained on their own previous and current work instead of giving them educational tools to learn new actual real software with which they can push further the boundries art and creativity. Must be fun for this companies to try and "democratise" an industry built on diveristiy, originality, talent and loads of skills by standardizing results and making the basic (but today hella praised) act of having an idea the only valuable thing in the creative process. Because why not ? people don't care about skills and crafts anymore anyways ahah I advice the new generations of designers to approach this things as what they are, tools for art directors, not actual substitutes for your beautiful hands and brains.

Designer aren’t going anywhere. These image generators are fun to play with but there’s very little room for editing. Take this 3D render-style image, for example. If Will was paid by a client to create this image, it’s very likely that they would ask him for revisions after the initial design is presented to the client. If this image was created in Blender or Cinema 4D, a designer could change the camera angle, lighting, texture, etc. This is a super important part of the process. With AI you are rolling the dice and are left with a static image that’s not editable.

Over the past 20+ years as being a designer, I’ve learned even if people can do it themselves, they are still too lazy. And getting clients is to explain exactly what they want, I think AI is in for some frustration with humans 😄. Never give up, embrace it, it’s a great tool for us.

I just use them as springboards. No differently than hunting around online and coming up with ideas. I think it's kinda childish and ignorant of people to think that this is going to "take our jobs away" Luddites have a closed mind in understanding how progress works, and how new technology workato our advantage. Think about how many more books were published when the printing press came about. And think how even more with digital fonts. And think about all the old school designers who used xacto blades, photos and colored gels to do visual design when Adobe came with photoshop and illustrator. And I'll assume these are the tools you use, yet that's ok because it's beem accepted for over 40 years. And some badass stuff came about that took design to a whole new level. so: people who adapt to the changes survive and thrive, and those who fall into oblivion are the ones screaming "WELL, I guess there's no point anymore"

It’s crazy how everyone complains about AI. It’s like people are in love with doing tons of manual work hours rather than being more productive while failing quickly and iterating quickly to create something beautiful and useful.
@thejagman22
@thejagman22 15 күн бұрын
No, not "in love with doing tons of manual work", there's no question that AI makes things easier in many ways for designers - The problem is that if something that used to take hours or maybe days is now virtually instantaneous, then that kind of work inevitably will require fewer designers. Hell, even the average Joe can get pretty good results from just messing around. Now at first that might sound like a good thing, productive even, but the reality is that if a job that used to take 3 designers 5 days can now be done by 1 designer in 2 just days, that means 2 designers are out of a job entirely, and one can only charge for a fraction of the time they could have in the past (hey, that's the reason 'big business' loves AI, because they can PAY much less for much more - yay, capitalism!). It will also inevitably mean there will be an expectation to do MORE in LESS time. So yes, we as designers feel massively cheated by the introduction of AI, because it WILL affect our careers and our money. On top of that all that, we were never consulted about any of this, it just 'happened' AND to add insult to injury - our work has probably been used to train various AI models without our consent. Think of it this way: it would be like someone had trained all their life to be a baker, learning the craft of making quality bread, getting up early every morning and opening a bakery and selling bread to the public. But then one day, without warning - reasonably good quality bread starts to spontaneously fall from the sky every morning as if by magic! All you gotta do is just go gather up your choice of bread for free... Now let me ask you this - you still gonna buy the man's bread? You think anyone else will? That's how we're feeling right now about AI.

As a designer, I've always relied on automation to speed up my work. Automation has been around and many of our tools before and now have always been used to help with creative digital ideas or manual. It was possible that we could have chosen to be consulted, however; we all have shared data freely in our social apps since day one. This shift toward embracing innovation and technology has been happening for a long time. If people chose to not learn from the past and stick to old ways, then yes, some jobs might become obsolete as they have in other tech leap years. But as a designer, my focus is on solving problems with information, testing ideas, and using insights from data to drive better outcomes. I'm here to learn, solve, and share creative solutions, whether they're financial or personal projects. What’s the point of being creative if you can’t innovate? Think differently.

@@Thinkinghurts And precisely none of that will matter one bit if our industry finds that it can now do without YOUR services based on this seismic shift in automation. Someone elsewhere said, “Many portrait artists suddenly found themselves out of work with the advent of photography, but artists over time shifted towards the abstract or Impressionism and art has continued on regardless." - this is true of course, but how much do you think all of the professional portrait painters who found themselves suddenly out of work cared about “art on the whole continuing” when they themselves were suddenly unable to put bread on the table, due to photography being faster and cheaper? This is THAT kind of seismic shift, maybe even greater. How much will you care about the industry continuing on in some capacity, if you yourself are unemployed?

Or… you could hire a real 3D artist instead of using a program that is trying to make them moot. And they generally are not expensive to hire so the argument of “good for small businesses with a budget” is ridiculous. It's like when you see a really bad sign design above a near empty shop and the owner goes “did it myself” instead of taking the time to hire someone who knows what they are doing and will help increase revenue by bringing in customers. I feel bad for my friends, who are 3D artists already working in industry at minimum wage and struggling to get better or more 3D modeling jobs because of how competitive the industry is. This further shoves their degrees in the toilet, and in a few years, things like this will remove the need for their jobs all together. I wish visual AI never existed so the hundreds of thousands of debt accumulated by getting a college degree was worth it

Hiring someone for doing something you could reasonably do yourself just so "their industry stays alive" or something like that makes next to no practical sense. @@re.d.studio that is such an insanely naive thought and I envy that. If you replace humans in an already tough to get into industry, you further remove any chance of career. And to think AI will not replace humans, it already is. Just look at how people are using it to generate instead of hiring photographers for mockups or commercial use. That will cut into the industry and create less opportunity.

True, data management, calculation, large language processing and the like, computation handles well enough that it needs little assistance from us. How counterintuitive it would be to offer a service that replaces the very people Adobe hires! If anything, if used right, ai will help these industries rather than harm them. The sheer amount it has developed within a year has gone from “unrealistic and uncanny valley hell” to “oh no this video tricked millions”. Imagine what will happen in another year, and the one after that? Human art and creativity will be replaced, as we are already seeing occur, in lieu of cheaper and less effort products. And in doing so will remove entire swaths of industries, until all thats needed is an idiotic prompter without an iota of skill or talent. Humans are self-destructive creatures.
