Back in the days before Adobe killed FreeHand, this was the default way of drawing. Cool to know it exists in Illustrator, even if buried. Thanks for pointing this out

Hi, Dansky! Thanks for the tip. I didn't know the shift shortcut for this purpose. By the way, this video reminded me that since the last stream, I've been wanting to give you a tip about the curvature pen tool. While building the path, whenever I want a curved point, I click once; when I want a fixed point, I double-click. I think my method can save a few seconds in the workflow. Hope I helped you too.

Beyond making blob shapes, I don’t really use the curvature tool for anything. It’s good for beginners. But once you understand how to use the pen tool in combination with anchor point placement and handle manipulation, the curvature tool just becomes annoying. I often see people trying to force the curvature tool to make a specific curve by adding way too many anchor points and it makes me cringe.
@micahbauer31526 ай бұрын
I think of it as a problem of understanding how to use a tool and not that one tool is better than another. With all the steps and adjustments it took, this method isn't much quicker than using the pen tool if you know how it use it properly. One thing it does though, is make it less likely to mess up your curve, which is tough for beginners.

been a graphic design almost a decade and this method is amazing. hitting myself for never doing it this way before. so good.

you can alt-click, too.. if double clicking annoys you. or, you can just download inkscape and use its pen tool which is a lot easier.

Pen tool is superior. You just need to learn how to use it right.

Yeah i never gonna use this shitty innaccurate pain in the ass curvature tool xd
@DaNintendude2 ай бұрын
Instead of placing midpoints, I would recommend just doing the end points, then placing a point in between and dragging it to the correct position. It saves a lot of time because there is no double-clicking necessary. You just drag out the curves. Curvature tool is good for beginners, but I would definitely recommend learning how to use the pen tool. I used the curvature tool a ton starting out, but realized it just over-complicated things, once I got used to the pen tool.

For me, nothing beats the classic pen tool. Once you understand good vector drawing fundamentals, these other tools end up being either highly circumstantial at best or a crutch at worst.

The curvature tool was very useful for me, starting out. But once I learned the pen tool properly, I never really went back. Even watching this video, it feels like a lot of extra steps to be able to get the curves right

Crazy. I’ve been using illustrator since v1 and never knew about this tool. Also never used the Smoothing command, just Simplify when trying to smooth paths…. Duh. All of these Adobe apps have so many tools and features that a person can do things in different ways and feel they are working efficiently, and then one day discover there has been a much better way all along. I’m sorta hoping this Curves tool was only recently added to Illustrator, in a late update, so I won’t feel quite as bad.

Thanks for sharing this tool. It similar to the "B-Spline" and the "3-point Curve" tools in CorelDraw! Which I have been using for years in CorelDraw. Just one tip. Stop doing the middle points. There is no need of doing them. Otherwise it looks as if you are using again the pen tool. No difference. The purpose of this tool is to make your life easier with less clicks. I stopped using the pen tool for years. i don't like the pen. There are better tools... By the way, Why You are taking too much time for advertising the "square space"? that is wasting too much of our viewing/watching time. 😢
