I subscribed to the 20GB paying on a monthly basis. I contacted Adobe via text and changed to an annual payment. Since I have been using the plan for the past nine years, I was given a discounted price of $99.99. It never hurts to be polite and ask. 😊

Given the fact that I use the photography subscription a lot and see no alternative for the time being, despite the fact that I also use ON1 and Luminar Neo, Adobe software remains my favorite. Thanks! It should have been mentioned that there has not been an Adobe price increase in about 11 years. With inflation over the years to maintain the level of development and support there are economic pressures necessitating the increase. Keep up with the videos and Merry Christmas.

I've not received any notification of a price increase in Australia. Photography plan is $14.29 with 20GB or $28.59 with 1TB. There are no discounts if you pay for the full 12-months pre-paid

I switched from the monthly to yearly paid the other day (20Gb). You have to cancel your current plan and then start the new, you can't "switch" the plan. I ended up doing it through chat and it worked very smoothly.

@@paulg9042 I was not required to cancel. All I had to do was log in, click on manage account and it had an option to pick annual. Quick and easy and it also prompted that I would receive a $9.99 credit as my credit card had just been processed the monthly $9.99 fee.

The way I understand it from Adobe, anyone on the 20GB $9.99 monthly plan has up UNTIL their subscription expires; e.g., my monthly subscription expires in June 2025 and I am NOT required to subscribe to the annual plan before January 15, 2025, but I MUST do it before my plan expires in June.

That is not my understanding. One thing that was left out of this video (at least I don't remember hearing it) is that as of January 15th, the 20Gb Photography Plan will cease to exist. If you're an existing subscriber you're grandfathered in, but if you're a new subscriber you will not be able to select it. Therefore, when your subscription expires in June 2025 you will only be able to keep that plan by paying $15/month, but you can't switch to the Yearly rate of $119.88 because it no longer exists. In order to switch to the yearly plan you are essentially cancelling your existing plan and subscribing to a new one. So, if you want to keep a $10/month plan (paid yearly upfront) do that before Jan 15th. Adobe will credit you the unused portion of the month and then you start up a new 20gb plan. You will get all the usual welcome emails, etc from Adobe. I was paying monthly and just updated mine to yearly last week.

Consumer prices in the US are always exclusive of sales tax. That's because the tax rates differ per state, possibly per county in a state. Local governments don't want consumers to go to another jurisdiction where the tax rate is lower. There may be a few localities where the tax rate is 0 even. That said, for the level of innovation we get from The Mudbricks [1] and how long it gets them to give it to us, they are very overpriced, indeed. The problem is that Photoshop still has no serious competition and when you frequently update your camera(s) and lens(es) other application vendors give us lousy Terms & Conditions. I gave that as feedback to a few of them. DxO adapted their Ts&Cs shortly after and this gave a better performance/price ratio in terms of updates/upgrades. Capture One does very bad in the Ts & Cs and only makes sense in a professional studio with enough revenue for tax deduction of purchases. But I still need Photoshop, incidentally. On another level, and I take nothing back from the above, there's an inflation going on in the world. People in the USA do not want to pay taxes and anything state needs to do for which they have no money they then argue must be federal for some reason. Subsequently if they argued enough, the federation gives the money to them, but as it has no money, they issue a new loan. The federal debt is sky high, while local debts are minimal. This pushes the USD down. That's great for their exports, has no impact on local-local trade but makes imports more expensive. Basically this is what the Chinese did with their currency that they keep artificially low relative to the USD (a.o. by forbidding its currency to be traded abroad). So raising federal debt, weakening the USD may be an actual intended policy. How a large enterprise is organized in terms of exchange rates impacting their P&L then determines how they go about in pricing. Living in capitalist countries where "money makes the world go round and people too", it is almost inappropriate to point to "profit" as a false objective. What "we" users could do is better competitive comparisons that reveal the value for money we get. The competitive position. Idiots keep telling us in KZbin that "it's the camera" and its "dynamic range" that make us suffer from "not enough photons". In reality, noise is a consequence of the Bayer paradigm at any light level. The noise we still see in our images in 98% of cases is "residual Bayer noise" that follows from "raw processing/conversion not being good enough". That should have been critique on Adobe Camera Raw (the raw processor to Photoshop - visibly - and to Lightroom Classic - as its Develop tab). But commenting on the camera's dynamic range provides an alibi to The Mudbricks to do nothing. [1] a mudbrick is also called an adobe. These bricks have very difficult color to reproduce on our displays. Also mudbricks are ideal to build houses under a watertight roof or in a cave, because when these get wet, they wash away. Bricks that are very weak and difficult in use and business case.

It has been over a 10 since Adobe launched the subscription model and this is the first price increase for US subscribers. There isn't anything as dynamic with all the changes in the last decade that has not raised prices. Looking at some of the posted comments, I suspect that each country has different tax rules such as VAT which makes Adobe's cost per country different.

If Adobe continue to migrate some of the features in Photoshop to Lightroom, then for me the Lightroom package will be fine. I do not use the majority of Photoshop features, at present it is mainly the Remove feature, which is far better in Photoshop, than the Lightroom version.

Careful. You heard it from Adobe, but not all employees at Adobe (or any company) are necessarily correct. Matt Klowskowski (in his recent video on this topic) emphatically states that after January 15, the 'old' plan vanishes and is no longer available. If you do not switch to an annual 20GB plan by January 15, you'll be charged the new higher monthly amount beginning on your annual renewal date (which could be later in the year). And you will no longer have the option of switching to the annual plan at the old price because that plan will no longer exist at that price.

@ If you listen to Matt at around the 3:50 mark you will hear him explain about the folks paying monthly that they don’t have to change until their annual “monthly” subscription comes up for renewal, for example June 2025, the monthly price won’t go up until then. HOWEVER, You may STILL change your payment plan after January 15 just as long as you do it BEFORE your annual “monthly” subscription expires. Yes, it’s true, the plan goes away after January 15, but current subscribers have until their annual “monthly” renewal plan expires to change to pay the yearly price vs. monthly and still retain the $119.88 price. I know it sounds confusing, but it’s true.

@@SunniDaze55 Matt was a little inconsistent on this point. I just finished changing to an annual 20gb payment cycle. The Adobe rep who assisted me in the process confirmed that this change has to be made by January 15 or the price will go up, even for those of us who have been on this plan for years - regardless of when your annual renewal date is. Matt stated that your monthly increase would not occur until your renewal date, but (critically) you would have lost the ability to lock in the lower rate after January 15. Frankly, I can't imagine anyone taking a chance on this. Just do it before January 15 and avoid the possibility of losing out. Any interest lost on this amount of money is pennies.

Adobe did not contact me in any way that my monthly rate for the 20 GB would go up. In my account page, the only action was to discontinue my membership which felt a bit strange. So I had to contact them via the chat robot and ultimately a real person was needed to change my payment to yearly. Feels like they hope that many monthly subscribers will not notice the shift to higher rates..

I have always been able to buy their software outright. Of course I’m using older versions of LR & PS. Unfortunately with MAC updates, LR doesn’t work anymore. PS is fine, so far. I’ll be looking around for other software. I’m not paying for subscriptions and I don’t need cloud storage. I don’t like what Adobe has done and continue to do, so me and Adobe are divorcing. The whole rental business model is what pushed me out the door. I prefer the buy a product and receive updates. My recording software did it where I bought the program, every year they released a new version. If I wanted the features I could buy it at $80 instead of the $200-is full price. After 3 years if you didn’t upgrade they still sent and kept updating but to buy the new featured yearly version would be about the same as full price again. But still discounted. They liked their customers and wanted them to not feel bullied into something if they couldn’t afford it. I know it’s a strange concept making the customer happy but it seems to be better than strong arm robbery approach. What if I don’t want the cloud but would rather keep my things on my own server? With Adobe you have to go through the cloud. That way when and if they let you leave, you will most likely lose your work. I don’t keep my files or other personal things on any other device other than a separate SSD with a backup at my sisters house.

I'm in Canada. I currently pay $14.68/month in Canadian dollars plus tax for Lightroom Classic, Lightroom, and Photoshop. I hope Canadian users can also lock into the annual plan on Jan. 15. I also have an annual plan for Luminar Neo, which I use to make fixes that I find complicated in Photoshop.

Thanks for these details. I’ve been visiting the Adobe site trying to modify my monthly payment plan to annual charging, to avoid the 50% increase. But their website shows and says ‘changes can’t currently be made…come back later.’ If there were a viable and less expensive alternative i’d be on it. I have zero love for Adobe.

yes as has been said earlier, the price increase applies at 15th Jan 205 BUT it does not affect existing users until the anniversary of your account. Like others cannot find a clear way of changing monthly to yearly on my account.. Others have said you can but I cannot find it..

I went into my account and there is a way to openachat with them. I told them I wanted to switch to the yearly billing instead of monthly to keep my pricing the same. They canceled my current plan and sent me link to agree to the yearly billing and set that up for me. Took about 10 mins.

Yes price are very high and I Have been adobe Lightroom and Photoshop for many years. I just love the software and it is the best but the cost is to much and I am just switching to Luminar Neo. Luminar Neo is good and I have just purchase life time license, I got on their big Holiday sale and saved heaps. I may have to pay for updates sometimes, but it's mine and I don't have to pay a yearly fee. Luminar is lacking editing the metadata, like renaming or tagging but I hope to find software to do that.

A Lifetime Licence is only for the Lifetime of that version of Luminar, and they may only give you incremental updates for that version, If they bring out a new version from say v2.2.3 to v3, you will have to pay for an update to get the latest Luminar

Hi. Matt Kloskowski in his video on the subject said that if you are on the monthly 20GB plan the time to change to annual subscription is in the month before your plan renews. When I go and look at my account there isn't an option to change to an annual subscription. It would be good if you can confirm this.

I went to change my 20 GB Photo plan from monthly to yearly, to do so I would have to cancel what I am doing now and resign up for he yearly plan. It would have been nice to give me the option of clicking a button and switching. They have had issues with stopping subscriptions in the past I do not want to end up with two subscriptions.

I’m not sure why everybody, including Adobe, is making this so confusing. This has nothing to do with innovation blah blah blah or price gouging blah blah blah. All they are doing is making a more clear differential between the billed monthly plan and the billed annually plan. Remember how pissed everybody was when they tried to cancel their monthly plan after less than a year and were reminded that they were actually on an annual plan and only *paying* monthly? Guess, what, the penalty was 50% of the remaining contract. So, nothing has really changed.

Did you log into your Adobe account? There should be an option to “manage account” then click on “manage plan.” That’s where I had an option to pay annually. Once I confirmed, I also got a notice I would receive $9.99 credit as my credit card had just been charged the monthly fee. Already received my credit. It was seamless.

Adobe is the only one who refuses purchasing software and will come after you legally for opening it without an up to date subscription. Problem with announced the dead line Jan15th for the 120$/a rate on a monthly base. I owned a monthly plan but bought every year at Black Friday a prepaid one year suscription. This year for the first time I bought 2 licences until Nov 2026. Now changing to the annual plan cuts down the second year of prepaid suscription. Now it is down to Nov 2025. No warning - no explanation. The Adobe chat bot is to stupid to get this problem. I think I need to try to get contact by phone. Al least I want my money back. Does anyone has the same issue?

@@howewe5697 I may be wrong, but if you have current subscriptions that do not end until Nov 2025 and 2026, you are good until that time. The whole idea is that people are grandfathered in, and Adobe does not require you to go to an annual payment UNTIL your current subscription(s) expire. If you let them expire, you are in trouble. Otherwise, you should be good. But you probably need to get a verbal or written confirmation of this. If you go to the Adobe FAQ, it clearly states you do NOT have to change your plan prior to January 15, 2025, if your ending subscription goes beyond that date. But you do have to renew before your monthly subscription ends.

A billion dollar company price gouging the non pro. Most, if not all pros will claim this as a business expense so they don't really care much. But as a casual user who makes no money from photography, just enjoyment, I'm finished with this company, they are just pleasing their shareholders, but I expect this from billion dollar companies.

I think, the 1TB Lightroom plan is NOT including Lightroom classic.

They've had the same rate of $9.99/month for over 10 years, and you can still lock in that rate by switching to paying yearly. How's that being greedy? What I always found shocking was that they charged you the same rate on a monthly basis as they did for yearly. No other software company does that. It's always more on a monthly basis.

Hmmm. Im on the same plan as you. Maybe if we dont do it we will get a mail from Adobe saying we must? Who knows.. Someone mentioned their plan having an "end date". Do you know if thats for real? Maybe we will get an email once our current year of use has come to an end. Sort of like a birthday? Not a good birthday, but you get my point.

If AI and Generative features cost more, why are not all the plans going up in price? Each plan has it, or uses it. Cloud infrastructure costs, except if you want the smallest of the cloud use, you have to pay $5 more per month. But if you have 1TB now, if you only use it for LR, it costs $2 more, but if you use it for LR and PS, no change. Is inflation costs a big problem for Adobe? If you just have LR, inflation upped you by $2/mo. If you have LR and PS, and don't send much to the cloud, inflation is a lot more, at $5/mo. If you have LR and PS and use 1TB of cloud, no inflation at all.
