Part of me feels like this is very, very deliberate. And not for the immediately obvious reason (because more data to train = better AI models). I think another part these sites are making the system opt-out of AI is because, immediately after announcing and implementing the system, they can run their AI training on all the existing data that users have "allowed" (since they haven't had a moment to uncheck it yet). That way they get their models, and know that most people aren't going to bother with switching it off anyway, so going forward it'll still be valuable to them.
@CrownePrince2 жыл бұрын
Most privacy settings are opt-out (unfortunately). As you said, people don't bother switching settings off, especially if they're unaware they exist. From a profit perspective it's always better to have an opt-out system rather than trying to convince people to opt-in to something.
@CrashingThunder2 жыл бұрын
@@CrownePrince I wonder if they'll reverse things to be opt-in like DeviantArt did. Doing that appears like they're "listening", but I think not everyone realizes they'd already have made off with what they wanted (or at least they would have been able to). The data only needs to be allowed once for them to train the model. After that they don't need it again. I could be off on my assumptions in a myriad of ways, but to me it all feels like deliberate decisions to dodge legal and/or reputational ramifications (on top of the other reasons you mentioned).

Like, other companies pull this sort of shit, and if all of them do it, there's no escape... But for me I edit in Resolve, draw in Sai2, photo edit in Affinity, and just generally try to use software that doesn't pull Adobe level anti-consumer BS. And yeah, they're an industry standard, so some people are hostages to it. But some people have a choice, and when they choose to contort themselves into whatever shape best suits Adobe's lustful advances when they don't have to... it's sad. It's frustrating. But the AI stuff is bigger than Adobe, as you said, and that sucks. AI art isn't inherently bad in a vacuum, but we don't live in a vacuum. Automation ideally is supposed to give us more time to do things we like, but in our world, that is not what happens, so very gloomy context for new technology.

I wanted to comment and say my words on this "AI vs Artist" situation that is going on around the web recently I'm not an Artist but a similar situation happened 2 years ago when there's was an AI generating YTPs, most YTPoopers where mad and afraid for a couple of months but then people kinda forgot about it. So I think AI generated art will never replace a good Artist, there for I don't think it should banned, any good company or person will always hire a real human to do stuff Rather that a robot (unless it's a scammy one) The 2 biggest problem that I believe to be bigger concerns are: people pretending to be Artists using AI, these should be banned and companies stealing Art from other artists to feed the AI, the Frist problem can be easily solved by Real artists who have a better eye for these, and the other problem that needs lawsuits and awareness. I believe that AI Art should be studied, it should be used more as a tool to improve your experience and learning Rather that a cheep alternative, Real Art will always come from effort and hard work but a don't see anything wrong with someone or something giving you some advice. This is my hot take, time to get roasted
@CrownePrince2 жыл бұрын
I wonder that too, if this will blow over as a fad, but the reason I am doubtful on this one is because AI is a technology that deals with everything, not just art. The cycle of bad decisions of large companies continues. We've seen it with other companies, we'll continue seeing it in the future. DO NOT PANIC! The next step is they will indeed make it hard-burned into the agreement. At which point, a HUGE number of their participants will abandon 'The Company'. Class-action lawsuits against the company may follow. Whether they follow or not, the artists will meander to other companies. One of these companies will surprisingly shine. Not quite as polished and well known, but it works well and gives the artists what they wanted in the first place. This new company starts getting more attention, more money, and grows, it's products get better and more well known. They don't know exactly what they're doing so there are a few flops, but it's mostly positive. Until this new company makes the same bad decisions that the old company (which never truly recovered) did, and the cycle repeats.
