NOTE: If you are on a university or company account, you won't be able to opt-out. Only the main admin is allowed to choose settings for the entire group. (holy ugh that's terrible) AI data collection is going to keep being added to more and more programs. If you don't want AI datasets downloading your work, name, address, appearance, etc, and using it, you have to opt out.

It's honestly so slimy the fact Adobe automatically opted in like other companies, especially since Adobe was considered industry standards for years! It's really unfair for us artists to have to worry about sites or programs we use randomly putting OUR hard work into THEIR ai database without us even knowing about it!

Part of me feels like this is very, very deliberate. And not for the immediately obvious reason (because more data to train = better AI models). I think another part these sites are making the system opt-out of AI is because, immediately after announcing and implementing the system, they can run their AI training on all the existing data that users have "allowed" (since they haven't had a moment to uncheck it yet). That way they get their models, and know that most people aren't going to bother with switching it off anyway, so going forward it'll still be valuable to them.
@CrownePrince
@CrownePrince 2 жыл бұрын
Most privacy settings are opt-out (unfortunately). As you said, people don't bother switching settings off, especially if they're unaware they exist. From a profit perspective it's always better to have an opt-out system rather than trying to convince people to opt-in to something.
@CrashingThunder
@CrashingThunder 2 жыл бұрын
@@CrownePrince I wonder if they'll reverse things to be opt-in like DeviantArt did. Doing that appears like they're "listening", but I think not everyone realizes they'd already have made off with what they wanted (or at least they would have been able to). The data only needs to be allowed once for them to train the model. After that they don't need it again. I could be off on my assumptions in a myriad of ways, but to me it all feels like deliberate decisions to dodge legal and/or reputational ramifications (on top of the other reasons you mentioned).

I think diffusion based programs that make music using A.I. are limited to drawing data from a pool of musical works that are copywrite free and preapproved by the artist themselves, because if the sites and companies hosting these A.I. tools were found to be using copywrited works from big music companies the legal fallout would be cataclysmic. That being said I wonder what would happen if someone uploaded every frame from every Disney animated film ever into an A.I. generator.

I've been one of those adobe haters for a long time. I was against subscription based software and Adobe was one of the major players to push that into being, and they do shit like the pantone thing, and just like.... feels like it's always something with Adobe. Like, other companies pull this sort of shit, and if all of them do it, there's no escape... But for me I edit in Resolve, draw in Sai2, photo edit in Affinity, and just generally try to use software that doesn't pull Adobe level anti-consumer BS. And yeah, they're an industry standard, so some people are hostages to it. But some people have a choice, and when they choose to contort themselves into whatever shape best suits Adobe's lustful advances when they don't have to... it's sad. It's frustrating. But the AI stuff is bigger than Adobe, as you said, and that sucks. AI art isn't inherently bad in a vacuum, but we don't live in a vacuum. Automation ideally is supposed to give us more time to do things we like, but in our world, that is not what happens, so very gloomy context for new technology.

I wanted to comment and say my words on this "AI vs Artist" situation that is going on around the web recently I'm not an Artist but a similar situation happened 2 years ago when there's was an AI generating YTPs, most YTPoopers where mad and afraid for a couple of months but then people kinda forgot about it. So I think AI generated art will never replace a good Artist, there for I don't think it should banned, any good company or person will always hire a real human to do stuff Rather that a robot (unless it's a scammy one) The 2 biggest problem that I believe to be bigger concerns are: people pretending to be Artists using AI, these should be banned and companies stealing Art from other artists to feed the AI, the Frist problem can be easily solved by Real artists who have a better eye for these, and the other problem that needs lawsuits and awareness. I believe that AI Art should be studied, it should be used more as a tool to improve your experience and learning Rather that a cheep alternative, Real Art will always come from effort and hard work but a don't see anything wrong with someone or something giving you some advice. This is my hot take, time to get roasted
@CrownePrince
@CrownePrince 2 жыл бұрын
I wonder that too, if this will blow over as a fad, but the reason I am doubtful on this one is because AI is a technology that deals with everything, not just art. The larger problem has to do with privacy and how much literally anyone is allowed to do with, say, an AI that looks like you. Or an AI that can track the location of anyone on the planet.

My guess is probably no, Krita is an open source program made by ARTIST, not owned by adobe, so I don't think Krita would be supportive of putting users artwork in an AI. Then again I'm not completely sure I think you'd have to check their TOS, since like crowne said, these companies aren't making this information easy to find at all. I hope my assumption of them not supporting AI is correct, because I do really enjoy using Krita, and it's really saddening to see more and more companies sneakily adding new policies that automatically opt in OUR artwork into their AI without our true consent.

Peta sued him because technically he did not take the photos, the monkey did, peta won that case. Which makes it so a lot of artists can make the argument that the robot made the art And it was not made by a human Therefore, it is automatically free use. It still sucks but people Can train aI on other people's art without The artist permission, but at least If the case goes through and artists win all AI art will be under free Use.

It was taught to me in my vocational design class as "Industry standard" (School teaching kids to worship corporate overlords is not good and is a great example of the systematic corruption those weird hippies you never understood talk about.) Seemed ok mid 2000s but they have been downhill ever since. I made the smart choice of jumping ship when they started subscription crap and never looked back. Adobe is cancer. (But yes I understand certain very foolish employers who aren't designers gonna try to force you into the Adobe environment because they too were sold the same lie back in school but never actually used the products themselves regularly and thus never saw past the pretty whitewash. *Shrugs* can't be helped but awareness is key to making change for the future. The cycle of bad decisions of large companies continues. We've seen it with other companies, we'll continue seeing it in the future. DO NOT PANIC! The next step is they will indeed make it hard-burned into the agreement. At which point, a HUGE number of their participants will abandon 'The Company'. Class-action lawsuits against the company may follow. Whether they follow or not, the artists will meander to other companies. One of these companies will surprisingly shine. Not quite as polished and well known, but it works well and gives the artists what they wanted in the first place. This new company starts getting more attention, more money, and grows, it's products get better and more well known. They don't know exactly what they're doing so there are a few flops, but it's mostly positive. Until this new company makes the same bad decisions that the old company (which never truly recovered) did, and the cycle repeats.

That is: Anything that you post to a public place that can be viewed on someone's web browser can and will be used for AI training, with or without your permission or even without you even knowing it's happened. People are already doing this to train AI with. Even if you opt out of all of these things your work will still be used for AI training if you post it to the public anywhere. It doesn't have to be directly downloaded either. Anyone anywhere in the world that can view your art on a website can take a screenshot and save it and use it for AI training.

Whaaaaaat that's ridiculous wtf even. Like the fact that it's like this means people who don't use it anymore but did in the past will pretty much always have their art accessible for ai, whether they want it or not! Yeah that's pretty shady...

so, i've gotta ask; why is this only now a problem? google has been taking every image from its image search to train AI for several years now. and (this next part is more of an assumption since i don't personally know anyone that trains AI) the easiest way to train an AI with artistic styles would be to just shovel any and every image from search engines like google into the neural network for training.

It's been a problem but it's only now that the general public is starting to be aware of it. Because AI has gotten so much stronger, content uses that users didn't sign up for (or even expect) are appearing.
