Adobe is in the news again. This time they've included an advertisement baked into Photoshop telling users to 'skip the photo shoot' using the program's new AI generation tools. We'll see how well that sits with everyone...
Let's discuss.

I think the way Adobe see it, if they can hook a million new people, and lose 50,000 photographers, they win. It's all about the $$$.

It’s tough enough when you have individuals trying to low ball creatives during negotiations, now Adobe’s giving them giving them more leverage to drive down the price of services.

I'm not so much put off by the new technology, but rather Adobe's positioning that their products could (and already do to some extent) replace the jobs of its primary customers.

@@DOPJoshDiaz I mostly agree with your take. But it still feels like Photographers are contributing to their obsoletion by supporting Adobe. It’s crazy to think how dependent I am on their tools.

I find it wild that they do all this for “generative ai” but won’t put the effort into fixing tools like clone, heal, and remove. Although they do work why not make them better and more precise instead of throwing all this unnecessary extras at us

and then that AI will use stock photos created by AI to train itself further resulting in an infinite circle of plagiarism ..presumably until all Art looks the same! ;) Hopefully people will value human input.

This is why serious art level photographers don't go anywhere Adobe. Now professionals use Capture One and they still get pro level fees. There is no money in stock photo now. 70% are taken with an iPhone. And the $10k per day professionals have a selling point. "No AI, No Photoshop".

Adapting to making worse quality work? no. Quitting bc everyone can do the work by themselves? no. Look, it may affect lower end customers. They think they are better off doing something themselves, whatever but it will be miles off. Psychology and art does not change. People who do this as a living know how to express and no one can exchange them. AI might make things faster, get rid of lower end customers but will not get rid of any quality work done by a professional. And I'm not saying this as a "ah ai is shit it will never be as good as me". I'm saying this as a professional. Adobe's sentence "skip the photoshoot" can only refer to lower end brands. This will make it incredibly hard for beginners but it's also a good thing since every kid thinks he's a pro bc it spent the earnings from it's parents for a camera.

just remember a photoshoot is not only for the photographer but clients enjoy photoshoots, no client will say just create a full photoshoot in photoshop and make me a book so i could remember that memory. When using adobe i don t use certain tools that's all, remember we capture the true image of a person. a person true to them selves wont add a background from another country and say they was there, they will visit that country to get pics of them in that country to make sure when they see an image they can relate to why it exists. Yes people will take it and do false advertisement with it to promote themselves, but it is what it is. it cant replace photographers, without photographers certain tools wont exist.

REally good overview. I can't say I agree with ignoring reality. Wether or not somebody actually says this, it's the way things are going to go for creatives, photographers. The genie is out of the bottle. Adapt or fade.

It’s about the subscribers, not the soul of the art. The line isn’t blurry anymore.

You’re video is all about commercial photography. There will still be a need for personal photographers in the fields of wedding, bar-mitzvah, headshot, etc. Also I’m optimistic that this will all come full circle eventually and the public will begin to see the value of the creative/artistic endeavors of talented photographers. I personally have no interest in AI, but I’m retired.

So Adobe creates tools for photographers. Photkgraphers use those tools to post billions of photos on the web. Adobe and others train AI by stealing those billions of photos. Adobe and and others just say: we don't need you anymore.

Frankly, Firefly is still junk. It sounds and looks great in theory, but, as opposed to photography, it’s not really controllable. You get a lot of “something”, but really defining that “something” is barely possible. I’ve spent a considerable amount of time and money trying to get this to do what I want. I still believe this is very random and that many people claim they have full control over AI generic generation. The randomness seems artsy and attractive to certain people, while I find the look way too ordinary and bland as opposed to what my prompts should have created - maybe I’m really inept and just can’t handle this technology, but I’m back to camera and 3D

Resistance is futile 😅... The worst thing is that Adobe is still far from being the best for AI to do this kind of advertising, just with Stable diffusion installed on your home computer, the quality is better. If we want to stay in the market we will have to use these new technologies to survive. because other less talented, will use them...
