I think their excuse for running about with loaded guns should be justified, judging by past events they are not really the best at "judgment calls" and don't get me started on "cover-ups" (We were not even in the area) WERE TOO, and of course, there is the mental stability of officers who"wish to carry weapons", in this incident the officers who "challenged you" were not exactly in control of their emotions, far from it.

I'm assuming that you're American. We don't have a First Amendment here in the UK, so prior restraint isn't a thing. As for assault, our law on obstruction of a police officer is written vaguely enough that I was on shaky legal ground. I think I'd play it differently next time. Thanks for your comment.

The first one who approached me outside the shop came out of nowhere and somewhat surprised me. I just automatically took two or three small steps backwards to get away from him. Then I realised what I was doing and stopped. I was well prepared for them when they each approached me near the arrest. I finally moved when I was threatened for a second time with arrest. I had things to do that night, people to see, places to go. I was unwilling at the time to spend the bank holiday weekend until Tuesday morning in police cells. Despite all this, I agree with you wholeheartedly, although there are occasions when discretion is the better part of valour. Thanks for your input.

Obstruction is a physical act armed or not you have every legal right to record the police whilst they are acting as a officer. I would of made him move me then it would allow me to file a criminal complaint as well as a civil

I was born and raised in Northern Ireland so I know all about armed cops. One of my earliest memories is of a local cop placing his sidearm in my hand when I asked him if I could touch it. Our cops just happened to carry firearms. These people seem to think it's something special, and so they feel powerful. Nope. Not to me.

How can you be obstructing a pillock of cops (what is the collective term?) when they're yards away. Had a quick look online & the word 'wilful' comes in to it - so you have to be WILFULLY hindering a cop in the execution of his/her duty. Watching from a safe distance is in no way wilfull.

Just for clarification mate, they are not in no way shape or form "scared of you", you're waving a camera in their face while they're just trying to do their job, they gave you a warning to step back, you can't just obstruct an investigation and possibly even arrest and then call them scared when they tell you to stop, you got 3+ warnings, which is more than enough chances to be arrested. you can be arrested for obstruction under the Police Act of 1996 play it safe next time mate.

They are firearms officers, if they tell you to step back, step back. Don't put your camera up to their faces and argue back. You never know what incident they're dealing with. You might end up being involved in the incident instead.
