Adoption is wonderful. I was 3 years and 6 months old when I was adopted. My birth family could not take care of me, but my adoptive parents did and gave me a wonderful childhood that I treasure dearly and now I finished my degree last year and have a great job 🧡 I hope you raise him and he aware of his Korean culture/language as well when he grows up. He will feel an identity crisis if he is completely deprived of it (maybe). His so adorable and God bless to your fantastic family. #사랑해요🧡🧡

Dear Parents of Ari, Thank you for sharing this. I was adopted in 1980 from South Korea, I was fortunate to have good parents who loved us. But be aware, his teen age years will be tough and he may find himself wondering why he is so different from everyone. I questioned, felt lost and felt lonely at times. This is the time where he needs to feel he belongs. He will find himself one day asking more about Korea and who his real parents are...I cannot explain it...for some adoptees...this is a question they require answers. I live in Florida now...I found my love and my happiness here. Wish you all the best. If you ever have questions or just need a listening ear, I think I can bring you some insight into what to expect, its just my humble experience, nothing more. Sincerely, Joel.

Thank you for sharing! We know as our boys begin to understand more they will have lots of hard questions. Adoption is brought on by loss which is so hard. We love hearing from other adoptees about their experience. We also live in FL. I hope to bring our boys back to Korea often. Thank you for reaching out!

Hi, I am a 40 year old Korean adoptee. I have a very loving family, but for some reason this video triggered tears of grief. Adoption is extremely complex and there is a huge range of emotions. I grew up in predominately rural white communities and went to white schools. Had my fair share of bullying and micro aggressions my entire life. I sincerely hope the best for you all but, if you don't already, please consider living in ethnically diverse communities and attending diverse schools. When I was growing up in the 80s, my parents adopted the "love is enough" philosophy. I did not feel comfortable bringing up subjects of race with them bc it "wasnt supposed to matter". Even my brother who is also a KAD and I never talked about our adoption until just in the past year or so. There is a large amount of grief through adoption that I think needs and should be talked about more. Have you read, The Primal Wound? I now have two biological kids of my own and have a much different and broader lens on the issue of adoption than ever before. Wishing you the best.

I grew up in an suburb of Baltimore, but still wasn't diverse enough. White / Black with a very very very small amount of Asians. Literally less than 10 growing up in the town of 15,000ish. JFC, we all have identity issues, lol. Just saw my Mom a week ago for my Dad's funeral. I scolded her for not forcing me to learn Korean (in a playful way). It really would have opened up a lot of doors for me when I became an adult. (Weirdly, I get a good sense about this couple. They have good energy and seem like the type of parents that will be open + want to learn what's best for their adoptive kid's. Disclaimer: I used to volunteer once a year for adoptive parents and kids to share my experience. There are a lot of young couples that were concerned about the identity problem their kids will face. Much easier these days with more resources available. The next wave of kids are from China though. Hopefully, they will mirror some of the support groups that Koreans have setup domestically and internationally.)

@Swamp Ophelia if the children stay in the orphanages, they age out at 14 (at least in CHINA they age out at 14 yr), then what? This is much better. Not many get adopted in their own countries so those children have no one if these parents don't adopt. If tells us in the Bible to take care of orphans and the widows.

After watching the Staufers video and all the controversy surrounding their decision to put their child back into the system, the one thing that hit hard in this video was when he said that it was a traumatic time for Ari because he had to leave everyone and everything behind. Huxley left what he had and went with a family who PROMISED to give him everything. Hurts that they didn’t do the one thing they promised him
