Ha! Brings back memories! Decades ago I was homeless, living in the woods for 4-1/2 years. While it was certainly an unhappy existence, one of the bright spots was how the wrens would visit me in my camp. Knowing nothing about these birds, I was amazed how cheeky and bold they were, closely examining me from inches away. The little varmints used to fill my hat with debris while it hung next to my lawn chair. I could never catch them in the act, but would discover their mischief when I grabbed it to head into town. Another fearless visitor was the ovenbird. They would stop in twice a year on their migration. If I sat still, they would often forage on the ground right at my feet. If I moved, they would only retreat a short distance, then get back to work. Once the local wildlife gets used to you being there 24/7, you're not considered a threat anymore. I even had bobcats stroll by a few feet away without even a sideways glance at me.

@@mjremy2605 No, I've been living in a house for almost twenty years and I'm doing my best to live frugally and debt-free. However, with the way politics, society, and the economy are going, I'm not very optimistic about the younger generation's future prospects. I predict the rise of permanent third-world style shantytowns in America soon.

I rescued a male Carolina wren it got caught in a glue trap in my boss's garage. I got it unstuck from the trap but he lost his tail feathers. I called my vet. They wanted to put him to sleep so I decided to let him go in my back yard. And two months later he showed up on my patio with a female. They made a nest on my patio in a bird house. He had three babies wren's.

Everything about these birds is absolutely amazing and I will never get tired of watching them in my yard or footage of them on the internet!! They are so clever, cute, and have such adorable personalities. When I was a teenager our Carolina Wrens Jenny (who ate out of my hand!) and her husband Boogity would nest in various items we'd hang up for them. Jenny knew me so well she would let me take pictures of the babies every day. She was the best outdoor bird friend I've ever had and forever endeared Wrens to my heart.

What a super sweet bird! I love wrens!!! I saw a very cheeky tiny bird grabbing big walnuts from the squirrel nut bowl and dodging squirrels then gleefully flying off with his prize. He had this white streak near the eyes, tail up at 45 degrees, slender curved beak that was meant for insects not seeds, and wondered what bird that was. Not a finch with that beak. Looked like a chipping sparrow, but they are more docile and fat beak like all seed eaters. It turned out this was a Bewick's Wren! Bold as brass this tiny thing stealing nuts and ignoring the bird seeds. I love this guy. He hops around hoppity, hop, hop, hop, checks everything out, chirps his songs, and visits me daily. I have to put up nesting boxes. I must keep him around, my little Wren.

I adore their feisty selfs. They're so bold, scolding us for living in the same place they do 😂 I started buying meal worms as a peace offering lol. I have a hilarious picture of one scolding the security camera in mid air 🤣 They also let my son know who's boss when he works on the car, they sit a few feet away when he's laying under the car and give him heck. Very entertaining as they hop around looking for insects, and we have plenty of them here by the river.

Hahahah oh my gosh, wow! That must have been something. I once had a Blue Jay in my home, in fact, it was Blue. I'll never forget it. I went on to bed the night before and I asked my husband to close the living room window before he went to bed. He forgot, and the next morning I heard some noise. Here was Blue inside trying to get back out but didn't know how to. He must have panicked. I had no idea how I was going to catch him. I just walked up slowly and gently put my hand out. At first, he tried to get away but then ended up in the palm of my outstretched hand. I slowly walked over to the window, he stayed perfectly still the entire time. I put my hand out the window and off he flew. All the other jays including his mate Sweet Girl were outside in the birch trees. What a story he must have told them. So sweet.

They do love filling up on the meal worms and grab their worms in between the Blue Birds, Nuthatch's, Tufted Titmice and Robin's grabbing them up too. The Bluebirds seem to think the mealworms are only there for them and try to run everything else off.

Putting out meal worms in a hanging platform feeder attracted Carolina Wrens to our yard. We started with live meal worms from a bait shop and then switched to dried after a while. The pair nested in a hanging flower basket right outside our kitchen window. They had 3 babies. I believe they all returned this year. They are emptying out the hanging feeder every day. Yeap, I've had to chase them out of our garage when I'm working out there. They will come to our porch even when we are sitting there. This year Tufted titmouses and Black-capped chickadees are also showing up on the platform feeder and eating the meal worms.

We just had some CW babies leave their nest. The mom and dad worked day and night to feed their babies and it's so sweet how dedicated they are to their young. They made a nest in a basket on my back porch where I kept my pins for my clothesline. Mom and Dad are still hanging around my house because one baby is having a hard time learning to fly. They don't leave that baby's side. It's so heartwarming to see how nuturing they are.

Very interesting, since Carolina Wrens are the state bird of South Carolina. 😁

We have house wrens and last summer a family of them hung around our garden. The garden has deer fencing attached to long wooden poles. One day when I was out there one of the young ones was clinging to a pole near the door to the garden and started begging me for food. He was acting exactly like a baby bird does when betting from its parents, beak open, pleading squeaks, and wings fluttering. I've never had this happen before with any bird, and was only sorry that I didn't have a bug on hand to give to the little thing.

When I was little my mother stored her dust mop with soft side up in the corner of a largely-enclosed back porch. Of course, that was an invitation to a pair of wrens to build a nest. Mom was unhappy that she had to buy another mop but it was great waiting for the eggs to hatch and then the fledglings to leave.

Thank you! I have just discovered what these two little birds are that have adopted one of my potted plants to build a nest. I’ve lived in this house for 37 years. Never saw nor heard them until recently. First it was the male calling for a mate(that was my thinking anyway). And it took about a month before him and his mate to show up on my covered patio. And they immediately started building the nest. They don’t seem to mind me sitting out there and dont pay any attention to my cat. My cat has never been a bird catcher. He doesn’t pay any attention to the birds either. I’m so excited! I’m a bird lover, but certainly not an expert at all. So, this is all new to me with wrens. It amazed me how loud the male’s voice is. But I love it. It’s music to my ears. Anyway, thanks so much for the learning lesson about wrens!
