Thermal Regulation.
The nest's design allows the Rufous Horneros to regulate the temperature inside. During the day, when external temperatures can be scorching, the nest remains relatively cool. At night, when it can get quite chilly, the nest retains warmth.
This temperature regulation is vital for the incubation of eggs and the well-being of the chicks.
Nest Reuse.
Rufous Horneros are known to reuse their nests, repairing and refurbishing them for subsequent breeding seasons. This behavior is efficient and helps reduce the time and effort required for nest construction.
Reproduction.
After completing the nest, the female lays a clutch of eggs, typically ranging from 2 to 4 eggs. Both the male and female take turns incubating the eggs, ensuring their safety and maintaining the proper temperature.
The incubation period lasts around 16 to 18 days, after which the chicks hatch.
Parental Care.
Once the chicks hatch, both parents are actively involved in caring for them. They feed the young birds and keep a watchful eye on the nest to protect them from potential threats.
The chicks fledge, or leave the nest, after about 20 to 30 days. Even after fledging, the parents continue to care for and feed their young.
Predation Protection.
The oven-like shape and the small entrance hole of the nest provide protection against potential predators, such as snakes, birds of prey, and mammals. The design of the nest makes it difficult for predators to access the nest's interior.
Rufous Horneros are fascinating birds with remarkable nesting habits. Looking at the finished nest in the video, I wonder if rain water can seep in through the entrance, based on how the front wall curves inwards. I was just waiting for the the bird to seal off the lower part of the entrance a little higher to prevent water from running inside.

Such a master Architect and Engineer of gods nature. The chick's have air conditioning effect as well as warmth in cold. So so sad if such birds become extinct. It is mankind's duty to preserve forests in the interest of these lovely birds. I think this nest can even withstand an earthquake or tsunami. We have so much to learn from nature. Birds should never be caged they migrate from one continent to another and such birds being caged is very depressing.

How beautiful and amazing Creatures, who made them ? Do we ever think or concentrate? None doubts Allah subhanwatallah is the only Creator and best Creator.
