Adorable Paper Purse

This tutorial will give you step by step instructions for creating an adorable purse entirely from paper. It is large and sturdy enough to hold about eight fully embellished cards and envelopes and it would make a lovely and inexpensive gift.

Love this! It's adorable. I just made one and I like that it's bigger than some of the others "out there". It is perfect for 8 cards and envelopes, or for napkins, cloth or paper. I put a flap on mine, over the top to pull it together somewhat, and used velcro to close it. this also makes a pretty table centerpiece.. use some florist foam on the bottom and stick pretty flowers in it. I'm going to make more! Great tutorial too!

Im missing something! Your base measurement changed. It went from 8x5 when cutting to 81/2x5 when scoring. Can anyone advise which is correct please? Tia x

I used a piece of 12x12 scrapbook paper (sometimes called DSP) that I purchased at a local craft store (Somewhere like Michaels, Hobby Lobby or JoAnn’s) and some 8.5x11 cardstock that coordinated. Any kind will work. I suggest using papers that are sturdy as they will give you a much better finished product. Hope you enjoy this project.

The piece used to create the base of the purse is 5 inches x 8 inches and is scored at 1 inch on all sides. I misspoke at one point and said 5 x 8 1/2 but that was an error. I apologize for any confusion that may have created. Happy crafting!

The base of the purse is 3 x 6 inches and the sides of the purse are 4 inches tall. It will easily hold cards A2 sized cards. Chris, I am so glad that it worked for your gift! It really is a fancy way to present a special gift.

PERLER BEADS are tiny plastic beads that are sold in most craft stores in the children's art department. They are typically arranged on little plastic forms, covered with a nonstick paper similar to parchment and heated with an iron until they melt together. As a crafting embellishment they can be melted in the oven to form little domed shapes that look similar to enamel dots. PERLER BEADS are very inexpensive and come in hundreds of colors so I am sure you can find some to match the project you are creating. At one point you cut the black paper at 5" x 8", and later you say that this piece is 5" x * 1/2"????

You are correct. I made a mistake when I referred to the black piece as 5 x 8 1/2 inches. It is 5 x 8 inches and is scored at 1 inch on all sides. I regret any confusion this may have created and I also apologize that it took me a while to respond to your email. I was traveling and did not keep up with my email while I was away.
