I love Adrian. Comes across as such a lovely genuine (and genuinely funny) guy, but I always get a twinge of sadness that Rik is not here to enjoy their later years together. Richie and Eddie, still living in Hammersmith, in middling to old age would have been epic. RIP Rik ❤

There’s surely no way that Adrian or any of his colleagues could ever have imagined that 41 years later, middle aged podgy blokes like me would be able to remember every single line of pretty much every single episode, and never get bored of it. So much so that we still force our 20 something offspring to watch along every Xmas, with me acting out as all the characters. Line by line. Over and over. Including Scottish hamsters. Bambi being the classic example - I only have to catch a glimpse of a scene from that episode and the rest of the day I’m reciting (out loud) “crop rotation in the 14th century was CONSIDERABLY more widespread after….. John”. The Young Ones has resulted in more than a few people thinking that I am unhinged. It might have been only 0.5% of your life Adrian, but it’s given me and my old school buddies a lifetime of wonderful memories and enjoyment. So much fun sticking The Young Ones up my parents’ noses. Even better, my stuffy sister hated it. Thank you.

Similar thing here, I was in Denmark and we always had German TV from the late '60s onward so growing up in the '70s and '80s I watched German TV all the time that's how I learned the language before classes in school. I wouldn't have known any of the movies or music I like if I hadn't watched German TV back then. Sadly today, it's a different world with a million TV channels so kids now they're not learning the language as well as we did hearing it daily.

I think I was about 6 or 7 when the first Comic Relief happened, it was one of the few occasions my parents let me stay up and it was because I wanted to see The Young Ones as the BBC never seemed to repeat it and I'd only seen little clips here and there and we didn't have money for a video back then. They were so different to all the other comedy on offer in Britain that I could never relate to but anarchy is something every 80's kid can relate to and every kid wanted to be Vyvyan

In the early 2000s I worked as stage crew when ade and rick were at the theatre performing a live bottom show for two nights in a row ( maybe 3) ,I was lucky enough to meet ade and rick , rick spent quite a bit of time talking with the back stage crew and I can honestly say he's just as insane as the characters he played , he was ace to all of us , no ego whatsoever , he was like a crazy funny mate I'd known for years , I have fond memories of getting a few items from the shop for Rick , he was very very pleased that my colleagues and I managed to get him everything on his very particular shopping list , I always thought there was a reason Rick was so intense and fast , the way the sweat dropped off him even before he went full ball into his act is something I noticed , he 'marched' around like a force of nature .😁

In my teen years in the mid-80s (in Australia), a few guys at school were excitedly talking about this new British comedy show called, "The Young Ones." Back then, The Goodies and The Kenny Everett Show were on tv most weeknights, so I knew the Brits could do excellent comedy. The Young Ones was at another level - what a groundbreaking creation. Stunning to hear Adrian Edmonson say it was made at a rate of an episode a week.

Ade, it might have been made over a short while but it gave so many people immense pleasure and comedy like music and films has that ability to take you away from troubled times for a while, so I'm sure it helped loads of people too. I was a little disappointed when you almost dismissed comedy at one point when you were interviewed a while back by saying you were doing proper acting now and almost looked at it as a step up from what you did in comedy. I think comedy is a unique and you have to have a special ability to be able to do that very well and you certainly did that along with the rest of the gang, although I always felt Christopher Ryan struggled with the part of Mike, he just didn't have that sprinkling of magic you need to deliver comic lines really well. It's the old adage , timing and how you phrase lines is everything. Great comedy never gets old, I still at times find myself watching some of Laurel and Hardy's old routines and they're pure gold. Your old mate Rik did a comedy sketch with Cannon and Ball once, an unlikely pairing, but it worked beautifully well, all down to great time and delivery.

When I was in year 6, we had a leavers assembly, and everyone in the class had to do something, like some girls did a dance routine etc, my best friend Sean and I acted out a scene from bottom. I was 10 years old… Fairly certain the teachers didn’t know what Bottom was, as we basically trashed an assembly, ending with a plastic bottle hitting the headteacher and knocking his glasses off. We were obsessed, physical comedy at its very best. Can’t believe it’s been a decade since Rik Mayall died. He was my absolute hero.

The Innocence Mission is a great band. Glad you mentioned it, because I’d forgotten the name, so couldn’t find their album.

The Exotic Adrian Street passed away this Summer. It's fun to listen to him talk about the times he beat the crap out of Jimmy Savile for real in the wrestling ring.
