I read Parable of The Sower and Parable of the Talents during the pandemic. My anxiety was through the roof. I was astounded how much these two books mirror what we are going through today.

I read the Parables AFTER the 2024 election results. I'm going to be brutally honest, I'm 60 now, and I had NEVER been this distressed & disappointed in people at the moment. I'm just bracing for the impending, train wreck about to happen. 😢

"I have a greater destiny than your oppression." That line gave me the chills... I so appreciate Octavia's vision, and adrienne is always so awesome to listen to. Check out her podcast that she does with her sister Autumn. Really nourishing topics, reflections and visions for a future we want and can have out of our current oppressive one.

Parable of the Sower is our future. A nightmare with a thread of fragile hope running through. Completely prescient.

I see allot of Octavia ideas in movies today. After reading Parable of the Sower in 2000, I read all of her novels. I learned to really enjoy reading because of her. My two favorite books are Mind of My Mind and Lilith's Brood.

Such an important and beautiful conversation about the writing and Butler’s focus on representation of Black women as powerful lead characters.

I appreciate the definition of feminism as “ we have the capacity to lead like anyone else.” That’s what makes me a feminist. I’ve learned and been led by more powerful and intelligent women then men, at least in the directions of peace and prosperity for all. Men seem to lead towards war, patriarchy, violence and alienation. It’s why I suppprt tearing down the boxes of gender and sex and class to make a more equitable world for all. I will follow Adrienne Marie Brown

If you enjoy this talk, I suggest that you read/watch/listen to her work on Transformative Justice, Mutual Aid and mushrooms. amb's book We Will Not Cancel Us just came out, too. Also, Margret Killjoy has some great collections/writings about anarchism, gender, race & fiction.

So basically a Latin non-binary Latin is appropriating a black vid woman’s work? How is this okay?
