370+ hours, practised almost an hour a day as an absolute beginner, here is the reasonable and achievable result you are looking for. The progress Is not as fast as other channel’s, but that’s me, a busy, slow and lazy learner’s effort 😆
My music background 🎶
My life had nothing to do with music. I DIDN'T like music at all. This wonderful year with piano has changed my perspective on music and turned me into a music enthusiast. I enjoy going to concerts and watching orchestra performances NOW.
A bit about me
I have a full time job working from 0800-1700; I’m also a full time university student going to school from 1830-2330. Plus, I spend good amount of time doing other hobbies, too. Like, photography and filmmaking. It makes squeezing time playing the piano a nightmare. My plan throughout the year was to have myself at the piano for at least 30 minutes a day. And, usually an hour or more at the weekends.
While I started learning the piano through an app, I noticed that it would not be enough. To optimise my limited time and enhance my skill, I had a piano lesson every week. Having lessons is good for those who don’t have clear goals, like me :D
My Piano: KORG B-2
The books I’ve used:
1 Michael Arron Piano Course (grade 1)
2) Beyer
3) John Thompson (grade 2)
4) Czerny 599

Your progress is truly astonishing. I'm at 6 months mark and there is no way I can get where you are after one year. And it's all with a little over one hour a day and 2 months long injury. It seems that it had no impact on your playing! I'm aiming at grade 3 after a year 😉

@@yaweitee well, I focus on my hand posture more consciously when playing and try not to over play at a time, like you’ve mentioned. I also give my hands a rest day every week. I feel you when you talked about uni life and and stuff. It’s really challenging to keep practising after busy work every day. 🥲 FYI, I seldom use metronome on my first year and I’m trying to get used to it. I’m average, I practise 30-60min a day, more at weekends, due to my busy life, I also give myself at least 1 break day every week 😁

@bodaciouscans
@bodaciouscans 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, fellow beginner here! I'll have my first lesson this Thursday :) Question: Why didn't you immediately start with easy classical pieces? The simply piano app seems redundant to me, or am I completely wrong? I practiced reading music all by myself, on the piano it is incredibly easy and very straightforward (as you probably know haha)
@YKShinoda
@YKShinoda 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, nice to hear that you’re having lesson soon. 🙌 My first piano book “Michael Aaron all in 1” didn’t have any songs near ‘easy classical’; therefore, I had the piano app as a mean to expose to more pieces, especially the simplified version. The app had was less helpful after 3 months, though.

I am using simply piano as well. Full time job and wife and mom and I have other hobbies and interests. The app allows you to go at your OWN pace. Start and pause whever you need to. I'm at a pause right now. I don't have any guilt of wasting a teachers time because there is no person! It's the ONLY way I can do this. My pace is much slower than yours. I'm at intermediate level (on the app). I do struggle with reading the faster paced songs so I could use tips on reading faster for those. I also struggle with playing in the different positions and memorizing the finger placement from C to D positions (both hands). My F position is solid. But that C to D I CANNOT seem to keep straight. Any tips, from anyone would be helpful?😊❤ Well done, btw!

My tip and my experience is that, practice slow enough to let yourself recognise your finger movements, instead of rushing and focus on the grade the app evaluate you. You might start slow, but your skill will be more solid after days.

1) How effective do you think Simply Piano is? If you dropped it 3 months in, then it's possible getting a yearly membership isn't too great> 2) How fast can you learn songs? Do you know them by heart now or do you rely solely on sheet music? 3) How imperative are the piano lessons? Do you think you'd reach the same skill by just self teaching? Thanks
@YKShinoda
@YKShinoda 2 жыл бұрын
Hi VibesEdits~ 👋 hope my answers help you~ 1) I never feel regret using Simply Piano since it provided wide range of interesting songs at a auditable level for me at the beginning. I do get back to the app from time to time to challenge myself with sight reading. 2) I think I’m not a fast learner, recently on my 2nd year, it usually takes me nearly 2 months to play a song with some sort of musicality. My learning is divided in 3 stages, first I learn from sheets to play the notes right; then I practise many times for weeks to get the dynamic correct, which is also the time I gain muscle memory; then I eventually remember the piece by heart. After not playing the piece for a couple of months, I can still play like 60-80% of the notes correctly. 3) I procrastinate a lot, I have a packed schedule, I’m not attentive on details and I’m not a fast learner. Therefore, having a teacher who pushes me, teaching me techniques I needed at different stages, monitoring my progress, suggesting different genre of pieces (classical, modern, jazz…) is crucial in my piano progress. Without my teacher, it might take me way longer to achieve what I have learnt. So, I hope my journey as a normal adult piano learner could help you a bit~

I am a little suspicious of this video. His hand independence is almost unheard of for a 6 month student. And the ability to read sheet music that fast is insane. It is my belief that he has had prior music experience prior to starting piano. He may be a beginner piano student but I don't see how he could be a beginner music student.

What I understand of all those comments is some peoples got it right away and some others don’t. So you are born with musical talent so keep on. You must be 1 of 100000 or more who can play like that after 365 hours……
