Golden Rod? In Star Wars, that's C3PO's nickname! Great Gold Effect. Looks better than most of the golden ink and pencils I've tried using over the years!

That was a fantastic tutorial. I had no idea it took so many colors to make gold. I really like your shadings on your pictures. I think I could even apply some of this to my graphic art. 😁

Thanks for this excellent tutorial Kori. Don't know how I missed it after all this time! I have a box of so called metallic pencils of different brands and am always disappointed in the results when I have used them. What is the point of having them! Do you ever use them at all? I would like to know how you use them in your colouring, if you do at all.
@ColorfullyOptimistic

Actually I do use them sometimes in wood grains and other applications, but not for metal :)

I have an idea, for making these grand instructional pieces. You seem to prefer light coming over your right shoulder, which throws the shadow onto the pencil point. If it is not too distracting or too distorting for your color perception while you work, could there also be a light source from the other side? I am so enjoying watching closely at the pencil point what you are doing, and so much of it is new to me. Also, I'm old, and not as sharp eyed as I was once, although I'm fine for doing this wicked new hobby.

So, if you look at the date, this video is literally one of the first I ever made on this channel. It's a very old tutorial I've left up, but I have plenty of others you can watch as well that don't have these issues. I was brand new to filming, YT, and sharing my coloring tips

I've always wondered what the point was of metallic pencils, ever since I had gold and silver Crayola crayons to make crowns on kings and queens, and they looked awful, so I used yellow after all. Now that I can talk like a grownup 😁 I realize that these metallic are supposed to actually BE their color, where other colors are used to REPRESENT what things look like in the world under your eyes, but aren't really. This is where color blending (with color theory, and even the psychology of perception, a pretty scary complicated topic but fascinating) comes in. Unless you are actually laying real gold on your canvas, like Klimt, you have to find a combination of colors that looks like gold would, under the particular lighting conditions you've got going. This gold you achieved here is great, with a lot of care given to light falling on it as an object in three dimensions. I loved watching it come to life under your hand, and gained some good insights about blending between boundaries of color gradation between shadow and highlight. Thank you!

@@ColorfullyOptimistic I would like to see silver also, I have always liked it more than gold. To me metallic pencils only look shiny if the light is hitting them at the right angle, so this is a lot better. I would like to do this for every color of metallic (or maybe the entire rainbow lol) so I can completely avoid metallic pencils, so if you have any hints for choosing colors to do any metallic color that would be great too! I just found that I had some Prismacolors, they were not opened and are not shapened. I don't care what brand you use, anything will help get me started.
