Diagnosed at 45. I couldn't explain them away...the rapid weight loss and retinopathy made me feel like I was dying.

I was 35 when I was first diagnosed. Unlike with children, symptoms came kinda slowly. I lost weight, but I thought that was because all the logging and firewood processing during that winter. And I was thirsty as well but never actually felt sick, on an unrelated appointment doctor suggested I had T1. Then I did blood test and it was 19mmol/l so that was it.

What has been causing this spike in people diagnosed as type 1 in last twenty years. There must be a reason.

​​@@MrPokerblot My partner, whom I witnessed carry a Samsung washing maching up a flight of stairs alone in 2019 was diagnosed type one in 2023. They mentioned covid exposure. He went from 280 lbs to 160lbs. Docs not prioritizing him over type 2s. 50 years ago, the USA was not flooded with type 2s.Ive read tobacco industry learned its moves from sugar industry. He was told late onset type one is unusual. I recently due to the circumstances read they're calling alzheimers type 3 diabetes. It's sugar. Its toxic and is killing us so big pgarma can profit.

Wow same here. 35 and it just hit me. A week before the 4th of july. It almost took my life😮 got tired one day like i had a cold so i took some meds went to take a nap. woke up 2 days later when my landlord let the police in to do a wellness check. (I lived alone) That monday I went to go to work on and blacked out while driving, didnt remember anything just wound up driving to my ex's house 39 miles away. Absolutly Shocked at how bad i looked ( from 190 to 148 ) she took me to hospital when i couldnt talk to her (complete sentences, dazzed and confused about where i was, day, time, why i was there... everything) Realising something was up. By time i got there i couldnt stand on my own. In one week i went from being healthy and working out running working ( construction) normal to being at deaths door. I got fired as a liability and had to move back to my parents house😢 not sure what im going to do now. Stay safe people😅

No doctor is going to tell you to not travel because of your diabetes unless you really don't have in control. I'm a T1D and I'm on the road 3 months out of the year.

Some docs will recommend it because there ARE people who get distracted by travel and can’t keep up with their treatment or management. It takes work from the looks of it...and i am lazy sometimes. I know it is a serious condition, so I’d be one of those who’d hold travels off for a while. Lol

Thirty-five years old and type 1. I was 37 when I got sick, and, like her, explained away all my symptoms until I couldn't stand it anymore. For the first year, the VA doc thought I was type 2. She put me on insulin and then six months later changed the diagnosis to type 1. Boy, oh boy, for several years went through hypoglycemic hell. Seizures, blackouts, trips to the ER. Wonder how Alesci handles it.

I'm 19 and I found out just over a month ago. It does get easier, and don't think you can't still treat yourself to sugary things, just take the necessary amount of insulin beforehand and have a balanced diet..

AT 51 years old and after a bunch of blood test I found out I am type 1 and not type 2 as originally thought ! No pill or other than insulin 4 times a day helps me lower my high sugar .

If you're getting highs, use more insulin. To get a stable long acting (basal) insulin, adjust it until your fasting or morning blood sugar is

I was diagnosed at 28 with type 1, and I'm 74 now. I agree some days one feels like Why me. Not much you can do though other than deal with Diabetes. The alternative of a Type 1 not taking care of themselves is death. Remember we developed Diabetes before we were diagnosed. I remember being told I had sugar in my urine a year before my diagnosis. Then it seemed like I had a thirst that could not be relieved, and glucose in the 500s. A Diagnosis of Type 1 and put on insulin for the rest of my life. You live with it and that's how it is.

Sorry to hear that you are suffering from type 1, but I like to add this to you your comment that no one still does not know the root of this disease. There are many many studies that has been banned from being published for a consumers that stated one of the triggers for type 1 it is the vaccination at the young age, which do activates some of the body antibodies and turn them do autoantibodies....So there must be something much bigger behind this disease which they like to hide it....... my best wishes to you

She may be in the honeymoon phase were she still has some production of insulin happening still. The honeymoon periods length can vary from person to person and if she got diagnosed recently she’s probably still at that stage.

It can be if she had a subtype called LADA, which stands for Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults. Like the classic type 1 more commonly diagnosed by the early 20s it is autoimmune in nature, but the autoimmune process that destroys the beta cells happens at a much slower rate. The person therefore makes their own insulin longer and is diagnosed at a later age, like in their 30s or 40s.

@@sabrinazakrowski1399 yup thats what i have. diagnosed at 30. doctors thought type 2 because for a while i was able to get my sugar down with exercise and diet but little by little i made less and less insulin. in a span of about 1 years i went from making insulin’s to making squat! now i take insulin

I am 31 and I know I just got my type one from a cortisone shot . I got the shot and the next day I stopped producing any saliva, I was completely fatigued and could not make it through my day doing full time work and school. I slept in my car inbetween. I ended up losing 52 lbs in a little over a month because my medical didn't kick in so I had to tuff it out showing up to work every day doing extreme physical labor. I have no history of it in my family and so blame the cortisone shot as no other evidence is provided.

The shot probably just amplified issues you already had. My grandpa is type 1, just got diagnosed with cancer, and had to take the cortisone with his treatment. The nurses told him it would make his blood sugars more difficult to manage, so they had to watch it closely
