I started living a dual-home lifestyle at the age of 65. It takes 2 hours by car from Tokyo. Once a week, I clean and do gardening at my vacant family home, where no one lives anymore.
Normally, I work together with my family. Since the boundary between my life and work tends to blur, we decided to each have our own time. Coming to the vacant family home also means having time for myself, and it's the first time since getting married that I have spent time alone. And I am reminded of myself again.
When a house is no longer inhabited, it deteriorates. So, when I open the shutters of my family home, let the wind in, and let the light enter, I also feel refreshed, away from my daily life. Although it's the same as cleaning my own home, it's strange how my feelings change when the location and tools are different.
Today, before it starts raining, I decided to mow the grass around the house and went to the garden with a wheelbarrow named "Donguri-gou". I found young pine trees sprouting amidst the weeds, encountered my first dragonfly of the year, and admired the full moon hanging in the evening sky. Later, I learned that this is called a Strawberry Moon, and it was a gentle pink full moon.
Nothing special happens, but I want to cherish peaceful days spent while feeling the changing seasons.
