to be honest the only critisism i had about oprah's speach was that it didn't acknowledge men who also go through harassment but don't speak on it because no one would believe that a man could be exploited in that way. but overall i'm so happy that this movement is in hollywood because it means that it will always be in the public eye and people won't forget about it.

Tom has the right idea, either you speak up as a man and get a ton of comments that it's not your place or you don't say anything and get called out for it. The shift in speaking up compared to keeping everything quiet is needed, but the fact that some people are turning this in some kind of gender war defeats the purpose of standing together and helping all of society better itself.

I am not against anything said in this video, but would Oprah really be a good idea for a president? She has a very popular opinion on many things that people would gladly follow, and already do, but presidency is a much bigger deal than that. I am all for this, but i hope people will be careful with over-compensating or purposely accommodating quality of products in order to reach a statistical balance regarding gender and rights. Else we are taking 1 step forward and 1 steps back (equal right but lower quality standards) the statement "all male directors" felt misplaced unless you can prove that other films with female directors where indeed better, you can't nominate a crappy movie just to equalize a female to male statistical ratio. If it was indeed the case, proven fact, that there was foul play in choosing directors then by all means call it out.

3:23 I agree her saying that is like saying, you only won/got nominated because of your gender not because of your hard work or creations. It's lessening the win if you make it only about the issue, those nominated directors probably worked their entire lives to get where they are only to have one of the biggest achievements in the industry lessened because now it looks like they only won based on one thing. I'm not against the movement I'm just saying don't fight battles with innocents.

I feel like them only talking about women is kinda insensitive to the men that also experience it. Maybe it is a woman rights movement but still. I also think all this "everything is gonna change" mentality is kinda absurd. Things might change for women that are famous or in bigger cities, but the majority of women in small towns and in the middle of nowhere and women that aren't famous...everything will be the same. MAYBE, they'll have the courage to speak up now but that doesn't guarantee that they'll be treated any differently. I think it's great that this movement is a thing but I'm worried that it's not gonna change much.

It won't really change anything. People who are famous, rich or have established status can talk, protest etc because it's easy for them but not for someone who need a job to pay rent. You need to start from bottom because changes on top have zero consequences for all those below.

It’s not that they didn’t deserve it but there were women who also did. They’re not saying the men didn’t work hard to be nominated, what they’re saying is that too many women who have also worked hard haven’t been recognized like the men have for their equally hard work. Furthermore, women just don’t get as many opportunities because they are expected to conform to the men in society and are rarely allowed to use their voice without the potential of being hurt or sexually harassed as we have seen in 2017/18.

Its hard to speak about something without others also saying the same thing. In Science these are called peer reviews; its pretty much the same thing. One person is not believed; 10 people aren't believed; 10,000 people and you start getting attention. It's pretty obvious if you think about it.

I believe that it is incredibly important that people recognize that sexual assault and abuse happens and we are the only ones that can prevent it. It is insane that, for example, when women get assaulted, they are asked what we’re you wearing. “But women need to learn to report these things,” people say. No they don’t need to learn that. We don’t need to teach each other to report when something happens, we need to teach that it shouldn’t happen and it’s not ok. Instead of teaching how not to get raped, we need to be taught not to rape and that it is terrible, and the people that do do it will be punished accordingly.

the comment made at around 3:20 is so accurate! men who are being nominated, are mostly being nominated because they are brilliant directors, but women are also brilliant directors. Men being nominated because they directed an amazing film, aren't the problem, and men being successful in directing isn't the problem, it's the fact that women aren't given the opportunity to be nominated. so well said, couldn't agree any more.
@Jchappyyy
@Jchappyyy 6 жыл бұрын
They will get nominated if they were as good as the directors. Women being women. Always blame men for being unsuccessful. Statistics shows that men are harder worker and more ambitious than women. Whereas women value family and put other things as their piorities instead of work all the time. Besides that, most men are smarter and also dumber than women. The spectrum of intellectual of men is very broad compared to women. Thats why most scientist are men, not because women didnt get "chosen" as scientist but they arent simply good enough. Women are mostly average at everything. Many great leaders are men because they are simply capable and more worthy of the spot. Statistics also show that women are very emotionally unstable and use it to cloud their misjudgement of facts. Women should stop blaming men but instead work as hard.

J C I agree with the first sentence, because that’s true and sadly people have turned it into a gender war, however the rest of it is a giant stereotype that you need to get out of your head. Someone’s gender does not define their efforts, or achievements (altho the achievements aren’t always true).
