Wuod Thuon Ogweo, Luo migration is one of the most fascinating migrations in Africa and the world. From Bar el gazel in South Sudan, we the Luo migrated towards all directions that, only a compass can detect: Southward and Eastward towards North West and East Uganda(Alur, Acholi, Kumam, Jupadhola), North East Congo Kinshasa(Alur = 70%, in Uganda only 30%), Kenya and Tanzania. North Eastward towards Ethiopia(Luo Anyuak); Westward towards Cameroon, Nigeria, Ghana, Benin and much of West Africa; Centrally, towards Central African Republic, Congo Brazzaville, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon.

@raympet "Yom Chunta" basically means "calms my heart". It's another way of saying "it makes me happy" ... the entire song is just about what brings him happiness.
@patrickstarshooter52216 жыл бұрын
@River Nile bank nya om No, I would like to correct you on that. The current Luo ethnicity is far from the Dinka of South Sudan. The only close resemblance would be the Acholi group that stayed in Sudan. To say the Acholi and Dinka are brothers would be like saying the Germans and Brits are brothers because they shared a common ancestor. The Luo group that migrated from South Sudan either assimilated with neighbouring Bantus or forcibly took over. The Luo in Kenya are not just nilotes anymore but a mixture of both Nilotic and Bantu ethnicity. The alur interbred with the Bantus of northern Uganda and Congo. Their language is mostly Luo, but only about 60-70%. In Uganda for instance, you will find that many people speak Acholi, even practice the customs but they're ethnically Bantu. My point is, the Luo people of today are not just Luo, but a mixture of their neighbouring tribes. And they're been away from Sudan since 1500, they do not share anything with the Dinka tribe.
@nyakwarObat6 жыл бұрын
patrick starshooter i know a Ugandan who is bantu but his name okumu. Lol. First time i encountered that i thought was strange. Anyway, your source of info? Not that I'm disagreeing with you in general but the dinka are still from the same roots so on that part, no matter how minute, we still connected. Saying luos do not share anything with dinkas is misinformation

This is the Alur Luo tribe from West Nile, Uganda. Adungu is the musical instrument. The title "chunta" is misspelled. Should be chunya (my heart). But in this song it means my generosity or kindness...led me to extravagance which caused my poverty. The guy squandered all his money buying drinks for his friends. When he ran out of money he switched to either selling or bartering his coat, shoes, bed, goats etc

@Homeboy Rina They're the same people. In fact, the term "Luo" is not Kenyan alone. It refers to a very, very big family of ethnic-linguistically related people. The Kenyan Luos are simply part of a larger family that encompasses the most of east and central Africa. Namely, The Luo people. Some of the tribes include, but are not limited to; Acholi, Alur, Langi, Teso, Dholuo, Kumam, and some others
