How to remove the rear wheel from a 2021 Honda ADV150 scooter for tire change.
Note that the spacers stay in the right side swing arm, not the wheel. Honda recommends replacement of the exhaust manifold gasket every time the exhaust is removed, so use your own judgement on the condition of yours and consider having a new one on hand before starting the wheel removal process.
An installation video will also be created, though it is the reverse of removal. Torque specs will be listed in the description for that video.

Hi erick nice vid. Just one question what is that box on the rear fender the one which your plate number is on top.
@EricV63
@EricV63 3 жыл бұрын
The box is a MTM Case-Guard 'Surviver Dry Box'™ that contains my flat repair kit, (stickey strings and tools, a Plug/Patch for tubeless tires and an Antigravity micro compressor as well as a pair of Colbly Valve emergency valve stems. It works well for airing back up after airing down for nasty dirt/gravel roads. The box was only $10.50 usd and the Antigravity compressor was $25 usd. Hi. Thanks for your tutorial. Do you know why some adv 150 have disc brakes and others have shoe brakes? Mine is like yours only front disc brakes
@EricV63
@EricV63 2 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you found the video helpful. All the US ADV150s have rear drums. The rest of the world gets the rear disks. I think it is because DOT required a parking brake and it was cheaper for Honda to supply a cable parking brake and rear drum wheel that was already 'on the shelf' from other scooter models than to create a US version with a hydraulic parking brake. We in the US also did not get the idle stop function, mostly because DOT requires a kill switch and that is where the idle stop switch is for EU scooters.

Sir question why your rear break is not disk break?
@EricV63
@EricV63 3 жыл бұрын
All US ADV150 scooters have drum brake and no auto-idle swtich due to Dept Of Transportation rules for the USA. I believe it's not the brake style, but the requirement for a rear parking brake is the reason Honda put the drum brake on the rear instead of a disk brake.

Hi Eric!! You have yourself another subscriber here, I really hope to see you make more videos about this scooter. I'm in the market for a new bike and it's hard to beat the level of fun I had on the yamaha zuma 50 I had years ago and thought the ADV 150 would be a great new ride to have. Take care! how many miles do you get out of set of tires and what does a set of new tires cost? Thanks!

Thanks Kyle, I'll try to get busy on some more content. I got about 4200 miles from the factory rear tire and still have the factory front on at 6500, but it's gettin down there. A new set of tires from Honda costs about $96 for a pair, one front and one rear. I can find the front size with some other brands, but haven't not found an ADV tread design in the correct rear size. All torque values are in the blog below the video link. ericvadvtech.blogspot.com/2020/ The blog has a lot more info as well. For you and others, here are the torque specs. Convert as needed if you use Nm: M14 head right side swing arm bolts = 29 Ft/lbs M24 Axle nut = 87 Ft/Lbs M12 head flange bolt for lower shock mount = 20 Ft/lbs (upper nut that I did not remove is 18 Ft/lbs) M5 Allen bolt for left side of rear outer fender = 2.5 Ft/lbs or 31 In/lbs (not very tight!!) M10 head hex bolts for the right side of the rear outer fender = 7 Ft/lbs M10 acorn nuts for the exhaust manifold = 21.3 Ft/lbs M14 head flange bolts for the muffler mounting to the swing arm = 36/Ft/lbs

Good sir, if you don’t mind me asking? How many miles did you get on the original rear tire of your Honda ADV?
@EricV63

My original rear tire, IRC GP-212R was into the wear bars at 4000 miles. I changed it at 4150 miles. My wife's ADV150 rear lasted slightly longer at ~4500 miles. They are an inexpensive, consistent tire, but I much prefer Michelin City Grip 2 for the rear and Mitas MC-32 WinScoot for the front in stock sizes. How many miles did you get out of the stock tire? Have you had any experience with changing the front tire to a 120 and rear 140?
@EricV63
@EricV63 Жыл бұрын
I changed the stock IRC rear tire at 4150 miles. It was at the wear bars and getting some smooth spots in the center. I have seen other riders get close to 5k miles from the IRC rear. Michelin City Grip 2 on the rear gave me 9k miles and was much better wet and loose traction. Some more comments in the blog here: ericvadvtech.blogspot.com/ I have not tried a 120 front or 140 rear. There should be clearance if you can find the sizes. Our 130/70-13 rear isn't all that common for a rear tire. The 130/60-13 gave me a slightly lower top speed. Honestly, I don't really like what's offered in the 140/70-13 sizes. I prefer a more aggressive tread or at least a M&S rating since I ride gravel/dirt as well as pavement.

@@EricV63 Thanks for the response and the input. The City Grip isnt made in the stock front tire size of 110. What size did you run?

@@Jeremybaland Michelin does make the CG2 in 110/80-r14, it's just not commonly offered in the US. Easy to find in the EU. Note that the CG2 is a front/rear design, but not always listed that way on websites. I chose to run a Mitas MC-32 WinScoot in the front in the stock size. I really like that tire and the Mitas/Michelin combo is very stable. Grooved pavement or metal grate bridges become a non issue with these tires, almost like it's not even grooved. Wear is excellent with the Mitas as well. I currently have over 10k on the front Mitas, but it has gotten fairly cupped and loud over the last 2k or so.

I also have had difficulty finding tires. I ordered the OE IRC GP-212F & R from an online Honda parts vendor. Cheap Cycle Parts had them in stock. Backorders take a while right now, for most vendors. I have emailed every tire manufacturer selling scooter tires in the US asking for the ADV150 sizes. No love so far. Most say they keep track of requests and consider it when they get enough. I will be running a Mitas MC-32 on the front and a Michelin City Grip 2 on the rear for the SCBR. Hoping to get more miles than the IRCs. I also tried a Dura HF903 in 130/60-13 in the rear. Loved the traction, but didn't get much better tread life.

@EricV63 3 жыл бұрын
For the Scooter Cannonball Run I ended up with Mitas MC32 WinScoot in front and a Michelin City Grip 2 in the rear. It turned out to be a very good combo and awesome in gravel, rain and grooved pavement. No wiggle or wander on grooved pavement at all. Impressive! Also wearing very well with lots of life left after 5k miles so far. If the MC32 becomes available in the rear size, I'll go with Mitas on both ends.

Only the US versions get a drum rear brake. I think it has to do with the DOT requirement for a parking brake. I'm not positive, but it appears the EU and Asia market versions get no parking brake, but disk rear brake, (and auto idle switch where our run/kill switch is).

If you only need to repair a puncture, it's much easier to do so with the wheel in place on the scooter using a vulcanizing rope kit. Here is a link for one in my part of the world as an example. You can probably find one in your area by searching for "tubeless tire repair kit" tinyurl.com/38fset56
