I have been a staunch follower of Advita Vedanta. And I’ve grown up with Mahabharata and Ramayana. Knowing what I know, I can tell that the speaker is a “punyatma” . A Devine soul. And he possesses accurate and exemplary understanding of Vedas, the kind of which is uncommon even in India. Thank you for helping us with the spiritual journey here. Kindly let me know how we can get in touch with the speaker

Throughout my studies, people have been saying "all is consciousness." And I never could grasp it. So I put it aside for later. Then when I remembered that all is Brahman. And Brahman is Sacchidānanda (Brahman is Existence- Consciousness-Bliss) That is: Brahman doesn't exist, Brahman IS Existence (upon which all existing things rely) Brahman isn't conscious, Brahman IS Consciousness (upon which all conscious beings rely) Brahman isn't blissful, Brahman IS Bliss (upon which all pure happiness relies) And then Tat Tvam Asi or "That Thou Art" It started coming together.
@YesVedanta6 жыл бұрын
Fluently said. In other words, that "Brahman", is nature of "I" (which gains another name Ātman; and it's important to know difference). Of course this raises an objection which we answer throughout the course, being "If Brahman/Consciousness is Limitless (-ananda), then why do I experience myself as LIMITED?".
@ArfeenKhaled5 жыл бұрын
ignorance/limitation is never an actual experience, always a belief to be a separate consciousness which creates further tensions/contractions in the body that are interpreted as the sense of me; but the actual experience of I, of consciousness is never limited whether it is knowingly aware of it or not

I'm confused when you say that the Self, or Satya, is Ishvara. I thought that the Self was Brahman and that Ishvara was part of creation (although at its peak: the Being)? Anyway, thank you for this course! It is with pleasure that I start this playlist.
@YesVedanta5 жыл бұрын
Brahman is used in very specific context. From level of creation, Brahman takes name of Ishvara (God). This is explained much later on in session (I think) 40+. Ācārya's job is to establish clarity how there is no difference between Brahman/Isvara and at another level there is.

When we surrender, how do we make sure that we are surrendering to god (ishwara) and not to maya?
@YesVedanta2 жыл бұрын
As the course progresses, will see that maya/isvara are synonymous terms used in different contexts, which are further not different from Brahman.

Please revisit the part of Mahabharat where Draupadi was shared amongst the 5 pandavas. The way it is explained here is that Kunti knowing that Draupadi was Arjuna's wife asked him to share her with his 4 brothers. Actually when the five brothers reached home, the eldest brother, Yudhishthira, requested his mother to see what they had brought home. Unmindful of her son’s words, as she had her backed turned to them being busy doing something, asked all the brothers to share equally amongst themselves whatever they had got. Thus, abiding by their mother’s words, the five Pandavas accepted Draupadi as their wife.

these are poetic imaginations or the social practices considered normal. Anyways Mahabharata sans Gita, or advice of Bhishma or vidura vakya is simply a story . nothing to do with salvation in spiritual sense

I don't understand why self-study is useless. If we are learning the vocabulary, watching videos such as this and by swamis, reading Vedanta, meditating, ... Isn't that useful?
@YesVedanta4 жыл бұрын
Hi JP, sure. It's not meant to be a black/white statement. Self-study certainly has valid place. Especially when used as follow up AFTER first learning from teacher. Context: Suppose one wants to learn new language. Why self-study it when can go to teacher with whom can interact with and get instant feedback of mistakes. Generally, learn from teacher if desire mastery, then self-study for follow up. The "adult" ego thrives on thinking it can figure the entire universe on it's own. As children, we honour this basic concept of learning from the learned. But as adults, it fades, and we decide to do everything on our own, thinking we alone can do a better job then anyone else. Takes much humility to acknowledge "I can't figure this out on my own. I need help.". Ideally, mixture of both.

At 27:38 it seems to me that you said "..Anything that is created whether it is a baby or an Avatar it is ignorant...because it is Maya". Kindly clarify.... Is Avatara "ignorant"? I would like you to refer to verse 6 of Chapter IV of the Bhagavadgita before you respond and to resolve the two statements.
@YesVedanta5 жыл бұрын
Take a mango tree. It only knows how to be a mango tree. And not an apple tree. Or man is not tiger. Tiger is not cloud. Thus anything created is limited to just it's form. That's what "ignorant" is referring to. Object is limited to it's own form. As for Avatar, he-she is also limited/ignorant relatively (eg: doesn't know how to fix a car unless learned). However Self-knowledge of "I AM" is present in Avatar, because Avatar's birth purpose is to restore dharma when morality declines in society. Whereas for you/me, nature of "I" being Awareness, is only understood when we resort to guidance of teacher/scripture.

Hi what translation of the Bhagavad Gita do you use?
@YesVedanta5 жыл бұрын
Swami Dayananda Saraswati, Chinmaya's, and own as familiar with original Sanskrit devanāgarī script/language. All are in line with upholding vision of Oneness, as expounded through all Upaniṣad grantha/texts. (Yes, aware of dozens of translations. Inspected at least 9 versions closely. End of day, it's exactly the same message, as long as adheres to vision of Advaita).
