Thanks for speaking about this case sir. Hope all of us, especially the young chartered accountants and future chartered accountants do not fall prey to the toxic work culture. Hope we'll all be able to stand up for ourselves and make our own decision and come out of toxic environment without succumbing to it. We should all prioritise our mental and physical health over anything else.

This is not only in Big4s even in so called Investment Banks also. I joined last year August in a real estate based IB firm and the associate director was so toxic that he called me for a site visit when I had a rib cage injury. He told me to get a painkiller which I never took in my life. He even taunted and humiliated me in front of other colleagues for not agreeing to his philosophy. I quit that firm after 5 months and now I’m way more peaceful and happier. Please get an understanding of the toxicity and act soon else your confidence gets crashed.

Don’t agree, Both company policies and managers responsible.. I personally heard regarding toxic work culture in EY.. They don’t have fixed working hours, Most of them work even during Sunday’s..
@akshayagrawal4375Ай бұрын
This is most alarming issue not only in Big4s but in every organisation! We need to definitely have a work life balance. I guess every office should adhere strictly to the So called "office hours"! It should not only be confined to office entrances and offer letters. There should be an internal committee setup in every office which dedicatedly looks after the employee health, their mental state and working hours. Afterall at the end, we are earning for our stomachs...we shouldnt let the money, ego , fame & power reach our heads! Just be contended is what one needs! At the same time that doesn't at all imply that one should not have high aspirations and dreams in life! A balance is must👍

Thank you sir, for your discussion on this case. Technically this is a murder due to her manager's toxic work pressure and stress put on her. I am deeply distressed after reading her mother's letter. My deepest condolences to her family members. We must stop glorifying excess workload put on the employees, over stress, and pressure. We must know the threshold limit of our pain endurance and respect our physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Otherwise, we can't control our body's reaction to the ailments and the result will be unexpected. This is surely a wake-up call for everyone who puts long hours into study or work. Health over wealth matters always.

CA just like any other profession is a need for the society, but what if she was not a CA and not working for Big 4, would there be coverage given to any chef or a labourer if he had died.
@MahendraV03Ай бұрын
Dude, that's just disgusting. Have some empathy for the deceased. Your logic makes no sense, no one is taking away fron other professions. As an individual in the same profession we have responsibility in making young aspirants aware of the same. I can't believe the stupidity man, its just pathetic.

You're absolutely right. Hence, we are doing our bit to create a survey and elicit information from young CAs anonymously, to understand what companies can do to change this. Will submit at appropriate forums. Whether any change would come or not is left to one's imagination, but effort has to be made. Thanks for your views

I think Big 4 should learn to invest on designing AI having the avatar of chartered accounant they appoint to work on during peak hours with discounted price having some percentage in package offered. This will put an end card for health issues and also the career of chartered accountant will be safe.

@@CAPunarvasJayakumarClasses The body gives the message to the brain or whatever when things are not going well. This is a mechanism of nature, There is always a silent alarm, Nothing happens suddenly, but we fail to realise till it’s too late. So just to prove our point to the society that I am X & Y and I work in Big 4 etc and I make XYZ by working hard against nature, we lose our life.

I had a friend who earned 3 times more than me, but he worked hard against natures biological clock, and one day at the age of 30 he died of cardiac arrest. What’s the point of the salary, house car, when the person using the material things is no more.

This will end with when we realised that quality of work and quantity of work both are different. So work with your path to live a better life.

Don't run at the back of money, fame and success. Run for life and health. Stress itself is mortal. Be amicable with family and friends. Lessen your stress. Keep your mind fresh always. Don't fix highest targets. Don't obey blindly every senior and Superior's orders or suggestions . Make a habit of replying and discussing boldly with them. You make clear "what you want to do and what you can (will) do." You are a capable guy . You can work in any company and anywhere. You may fail in some. So what ??? Every failure will strengthen you. Be always relaxed.

Sir this is even happening in a small firm my principal, she still wanted us to work till 9 max on filing seasons and even on Sundays. Even today she asked us that are you leaving early but it was almost 7:45.. because she used to work in big four for more than 12 hours a day and she also expects us to do the same. i really needed ICAI to address this issue.

One more problem with most of the practising Chartered Accountants will treat their articles as slaves. They won't respect. Even our Institute has reduced the articles period to two years from three years that too with curtailment of leave. Why our CA members donot ask the institute in this matter.
