I was a teen when this game came out. During our gym time we had a lot of options including stationary biking. I'd break out my DS and play the AWDS tracks on my headphones much like this and bike the hour away. Nobody ever questioned me. These themes are burned into my being and I love it.

And yeah, his units are beasts on plains if you attack first, but they needed a defence boost on the plains to make him really solid. Not that he's not GOOD to use, but he'd be a BEAST if he boosted defence.

If he can get the first strike, it certainly helps, but if he’s the one getting attacked, due to the plains having little defense, he's not gonna get to enjoy it much. Like I said, better than Koal, since roads give 0 defence, and bridges don’t count as roads…. And not as broken as Kindke's 30% attack boost on cities, along with the defense boost everyone gets on them.

Hawke tagged with andy is my go to. hawkes super first turns any equal hp fight into an advantage for you attack as much as possible because Andy's follow up super will heal the damage sustained from counter attacks and the combination allows you to field severely damaged units from the back ranks for free. nothings better than seeing 4 damaged tanks at 1 or 2 hp come right back to the front as 9s or 10s

Jess is usually my main in 1v1. I also love teaming her up with Jake to deal a ton of damage. Their Tag Break, Heavy Metal, charges up fairly quickly (Both COs have shorter CO Power gauges) and can be very devastating. Best part about it is the fact that you can start the Tag Break with either of them. However, I think Jess is the best lead for the Tag Break.

I never understood the hatred Jake gets from the AW community. It might be because I played the EU version, but he never said anything that comes close to internet lingo or DJ territory. All what he said and did in the game,from my memory, has him being a very kind, but serious person, who loves his Country(and Nature as well) and would do anything to defend it. He is the angel of vengeance against Black hole, who earned his eternal odium towards them for thier crimes against his Country. Yes it sounds overideslizing, but from my fussy memory, I got this picture of him.

Its more the off handed words that make him seem like hes a "cool" kid from the 80/90s as he actually uses words like phat, but aside from that hes alright but creeps into jess territory in specialisation so hes also competing with her in gameplay with his disadvantage being plains and how neccessary they are to him forcing him to sacrifice decent cover for a fire power boost (which can make him a bit inconsitent to play on a variety of maps compared to jess)

@@golddust7095 Well it depends on the version you play as, but I never saw him saying such stuff...until I watched some footage of the english version, where...yeah, that can be annoying. Also in the Campaign, the plain power boost is mad up with the fact, that you battle as him in territory with a lot of plains and with a chapter like "means to an end", he should be very decent with Jess and Rachel as partners. Andy is still more Iconic and canny, so it's a toss up between the two for best hero.

I like both sagas. Admitedly, I prefer fire emblem over advance wars, but that's mostly because while I am pretty decent at fire emblem, I suck big time at AW, and I like the concept of having an army of people with faces and personalities (although I must say, I'd place Olaf over a huge part of the fire emblem series cast). I still enjoy the latter, and both are incredibly good, and it would be equally bad for either of them to die. Of course, I am not really in the bunch you mentioned, as my favourite fire emblems (and my favourite advance wars, black hole rising) are the GBA ones, back when waifus didn't properly exist yet in the series and the story was basically "Roy talks to Merlinus/Delphin/Guinivere, enemy happens, go get Fir her experience". Heck, I haven't even played awakening or fates.

I guess they will return making a new classic "Wars" games in a couple of years, like they did before (even if they just want to get a break from making new FE installments). By the way, it may not be that bad to give the Wars series a brief break so IS got a chance to rework some core game mechanics, cause that was something that never worked completely solid; like the damage calculation that overpowered units with high defense, unbalanced unit costs and broken COs (and some very bad designed maps back from the NES...). Some of them were kinda fixed in DoR or not as severe in AW1, but their existence is still annoying. But I'm confident that IS will one day release a new, good Wars game, especially after playing FE Fates which was far more balanced and enjoyable in terms of gameplay than its (recent) predecessors and felt more like a turn based strategy game than a RPG.

I wonder if Jake listens to this theme to block out the sounds of war around him. The low pitch and high bass certainly does have a lot of blocking power with headphones like his. (I know, my headphones look like his XD ) It would also explain why he obviously has an mp4 player or something, yet wears bulky headphones.

To elaborate, I wanted to see the variety inherent in going from Forsythe's sweeping orchestra to Tabitha's bassy, ominous techno to Isabella's tranquil electronica to Will's pounding guitar across the entire game, and that just did not happen. One of the greatest strengths of AW has always been its diverse character cast, a diversity reflected in the games' music, and DoR did not have that diversity. That's not to say DoR's music was bad, but the OST lacked the variety I'd come to expect.

Jake gets 140% firepower on plains with his SCOP, Kindle gets 230%... on the most important tile in the game, properties. No reason to pick Jake when you can play Kindle. :3
