when I started playing bass years ago I had no idea what chord quality or voicings were. It was beyond my understanding and when a guitar player said B 7th it was understood that I simply played B. I stuck to playing roots and 5ths and octives. When I learned a little keyboard I finally got more clarity and started to play more articulate chord tones on bass. But learning chords on bass is even better as most bass players can express themselves better on their main instrument and this can open up a whole new world of not just a greater understanding of harmony but also composition on the bass alone. Your lessons are highly advanced but the more I watch them I start to understand a little more each time. For example the 13th chords from teen town will make lots of sense to bass players. I want to be able to one day talk intelligently to piano players about chord changes in jazz tunes such as the II -V - I progression. The II being a minor 7th the V being dominant 7th and the one chord being a major 7th.

You're a bad cat Joe! David Gilmour once said he wished he could have listened to darkside of the moon without having been a part of it. It would have given him a chance to appreciate the art that he made without getting bogged down by his own playing. If you ever EVER have a moment in your life where you question the validity of what you are doing...stop and think about how much fantastic, true and free knowledge you are imparting onto the world. thank you joe. thank you! i would love to take a lesson with you! If you happen upon this comment let me know how to contact you! I would love a one on one! thank you for everything man!
