Very practical ways of thinking about it that I don't always remember to consider. Supported by all the other color theory stuff you usually hear, this is really useful.

I adore this video. As a designer, I always try to steer clear of natural tones, earthy tones, nude tones, as much as possible, as I am a big fan of bold colors (by the way, you british designers are the kings of colors in design IMHO), but it's not always possible. But I don't like when I'm being told "look at what colors the competition use, try to fit in with them" How about no. The point is to make the brand unique and recognisable, not to fit in. By the way, I would love if you could make that kind of videos a recurrent one. Maybe with presenting different branding, and how you would go and find the good colors that makes the brand stand out. You could do that as a short, like "here's the brand, here's what most designers would go for, here's what I would go for and why." To finish, your motion designer/editor is god tier.

I love this video... I just can't relate to color associations. Is there research behind this? I'd love to feel confident about choosing colors based on associations.

Hey nice video, this might sound dumb but I wanna brand myself as a car photographer and idk what would be the vibes to aim for ?? Could be dynamic but also calm, I don't want luxury or clichés like this but still have something that could work for both young clients and professional dealerships (so between young and luxury somehow if that makes any sense)

Accessibility often kills brand colors and can be difficult to make shifts to brand acceptance and still making the site look good.
@charlotteblanchard Жыл бұрын
Yes. That has been my only obstacle in using color to enhance and convey a sentiment. The company insists on including their brand’s color(s) which almost always clashes with the intended result. Lol
@SatoriGraphics Жыл бұрын
That's tough lol.. I think you would have to try and explain to the client your worries and explain it in a way that makes sense to them, i.e the clash of colour will hurt traffic and conversions on their site.
@clevermissfox Жыл бұрын
I have a client who refuses to change their color palette which is mustard yellow , lilac, and charcoal. As you may have guessed only lilac and charcoal or mustard and charcoal passes contrast standards. They are a nonprofit and very “woke” and even explaining the accessibility angle doesn’t help change their mind. Very limiting. And they are obsessed w the mustard so they want that as the base . I tried sneaking in a royal purple and that was nixed “I don’t remember the dark purple in our palette…” sigh. Just another thing I won’t include in my portfolio!
@charlotteblanchard Жыл бұрын
@@clevermissfox Awful. But regarding your portfolio… what I sometimes do in situations where I can’t stand the final version of a piece, is that I keep the earlier versions that I DID like and post them beside the final version so when people are reviewing my portfolio they can get a sense of the progress toward the final piece. They’ll see the better versions along with the crappy final piece and understand what probably happened. Lol
@clevermissfox Жыл бұрын
@@charlotteblanchard thanks Charlotte, yes I considered that but even the versions with the royal purple were tainted with their bad taste in terms of layout so I just scrapped it all. Dealing with clients can be the worst part at least for me
