I personally am not in favor of playing retro formats with modern rulings because to me the old rulings are part of the charm of these formats. But I can definitely get the perspective of people who want to play the advanced rules. Either way I'm excited to see how the tournament shakes out and which decks are able to thrive in the new version of the format
@AdamYGO6893Ай бұрын
Having played both Edison formats with the old vs advanced rulings, I feel the format is no longer Edison with the up to date format. Feels like a completely different format, imo.
@imnerdpodcastАй бұрын
yeah we said as much here -- it would definitely be a different format with the erratas and no prio.

Personally, i would like to get the whacky rulings sorted out that were a objectively wrong ruling by pepega judges (like the quickdraw thing). Prio and old card texts can stay
@zauls.Ай бұрын
Yeah I just wish we'd use common sense and go on what the card actually reads with that kind of stuff, instead of going off what some random guy on Pojo said in 2010. I played in 2010 and nobody thought QD, Rivalry/Gozen etc. worked the way we are forced to use them now.
@KompletterGeistАй бұрын
@@zauls. Exactly. In my eyes, how a cardeffect works is engrained into game mechanics and doesnt change across formats unless the card was errata'd.

@aBigSipАй бұрын
I understand that people may like the idea of Advanced Edison because it freshens things up and changes the metagame, but I feel that the most important part of a retro format is the snapshot that the game represented in that time. Sure, players have come to innovate deeply in the format and the meta for 2024 Edison format has changed from the 2010 Edison Format, but once the rules of the game change, we are on a slippery slope to losing the identity completely. Now that players want to play with different rules, rulings, and mechanics, why do we arbitrarily draw the line at new cards? New banlists? If we are comfortable changing parts of the format, I don't see the problem with also changing other parts, and that's the reason that I feel that having a different way to play Edison beyond what it is meant to be played is going to lose sight of why Edison format is so great.

7:46 OCG had iginition effect priority. It was implemented from the start and then removed in March 2011.

Regarding Frazier's argument that "going first in Edison is broken": there is a video called "Edison Format WL Season 2 Playoffs Statistics" by Pana2525, which shows that it only comes down to 51% winrate for the players going first (go to minute 20:25). Ofc, it sometimes depends on the specific matchup, but after all, I think numbers don't lie in the grand scheme of things.

@@gian-luca7565 I think the only thing you need to look at (which I sadly don't have at hand) to convince yourself for why going first is broken is the winrate for a resolved virus/dustshoot, both of which increase dramatically in chance of occuring when going first.
@jenkins464Ай бұрын
I like the experimentation. Take what works best and discard what you think doesn't improve the game, and make the ultimate synchro format.

I find the idea very interesting, especially as we could finally play on Master duel with consistent rules instead of DB.
@CorianderDuelsАй бұрын
I think no draw 1st turn is the least invasive rule change and the one that would improve the format the most. As you guys said though, even that alters how decks are built and the way the game is played, making it less "authentic." It would be very hard to get the edison community to not split over any pushed changes.
@Tinfoilcat24Ай бұрын
Advanced Edison would be a refresher but I think most people like Edison because of what it is
@FalcoMaster.Ай бұрын
i do worry about splitting the way people play the format, especially with all the growth edison has had and while its still going strong, once it starts to die out a little bit id be more open to it and i feel like if Konami switches to advanced Edison there would be no turning back, idk, havent tried it out but after learning the encyclopedia of edison rulings over the past year and finally becoming a decent player, would definitely suck to lose all that knowledge haha
@imnerdpodcastАй бұрын
of course there will be some number of people who would not play Advanced Edison, but the community as a whole would grow astronomically with it being on Master Duel. Duelingbook has a fraction of the playerbase that Master Duel brings in.
@Kain0210Ай бұрын
I would be more than happy with the play draw change and the erratas. Yes it would take some relearning, but would make for an overall better play experience even if it makes things like Goyo and Brio a bit worse. The points about retaining ignition priority as well as choosing what order SEGOC are interesting because as someone who playes Magic as well as YGO, Magic techically has "ignition priority". The active player always has priority after a creature is played to activate creature effects, but at least in Magic you get to respond to a creature being played but before it's "on the field". As for choosing the order of SEGOC, that's also something you get to do in Magic with effects that happen at the same time and I wouldnt be surprised if that rule change for YGO was inspired by this.

Future Fusion waiting a turn to send slow Dragon Turbo and Hero decks so much 😂,Trap Hole could be decent.Goyo only in Sabers or Cats decks plus Brio only once per turn is kinda healthy

@playtestirl9448Ай бұрын
Great summary of all things that may change if Konami or other T.Os were to implement an Advanced Edison. I genuinely forgot about how the game would change with SEGOC. That being said, having played with ignition priority gone in both Master Duel and HAT, the game gets pretty lame. It’s a tough feeling to summarize but “doing a play” feels stupid if I can’t resolve them. No one wants to summon a Substitoad and have it get breaked setting a frog player behind a turn. Or summon a Dark Armed and it gets bottomless’d. I’d argue Retro format get so much appeal because there’s no one saying “no” on the other side for anything you do.

I prefer classic formats the ways that were ment to be played! Its nostaligic and brings back a lot of memories if you played around that time! 2010 rulings and style > 2024 rulings and style

The biggest loser of advanced Edison overall 100% Geartown, since setting a new field doesn’t destroy anymore. Ehren and Drillroid get insanely better bc flip effects do not trigger now, due to to the same rule you mentioned with DD Crow Vs Dandy Hopefully some of the errata cards can get a reprint with the old text in a “Yugioh retro” product or something, either reverting the errata, or making a new version only legal in time wizard format
@mays_hayesАй бұрын
I think I mentioned a point like this in a previous Rush Hour video. I wonder if changing to modern rules became the standard, where does the ball stop rolling? Should we expect or see any other rule changes? Perhaps other retro formats where some of these rules are already taking place (HAT for example has no priority) become more popular? Thinking big picture here for other formats and how things could be, looking at Edison only though, I agree with how much change there would be to the format. It’s interesting. 🤔

As much as I don't want this, if Konami forces it on us at events, I'll play it, since we'd have no choice. Not having Goyo is unfortunate but it'll encourage creativity since there IS a couple good earth tuners. Any deck that runs lonefire could use Nettles, and there's a couple other Earth lv2 tuners people could play. Synchro Cat would have easy access to it also. X-Sabers would be stronger also. It would also be easier for people who currently play modern to jump in without having to have priority explained to them. If Konami put the format into Master Duel that would be great for the game, since lots of people hate getting long combo'd when they're new to the game and it makes them not want to login anymore. Ryko not targeting makes it way stronger for sure. You could Ryko a Machina Fortress without getting hand ripped. Building for going 2nd would be a cool choice to make also. Are you guys gonna have coverage of the tournament or recaps? I wanna see what people do with the idea.

Or, konomi could just spend some of their money to invest into the Edison player base and code the game correctly as it stands. Dueling nexus did it so master duel sure as hell can. I think these changes would invalidate the banlist and to me that’s the biggest problem. Don’t change what ain’t broke 🤝🏻 just my thoughts.

Respectfully 90% of the "problems" edison has that advanced solves are also just soved by making the jump to tengu plant format. Veiler, warning, triple mst, no brain con, weaker blackwings with 1 whirlwind. Card pool be better over here. Edison just got the marketing edge.

@imnerdpodcastАй бұрын
oooh I strongly disagree with this. Tengu has some big problems as well...
@tcgrewindАй бұрын
@imnerdpodcast What are the problems? Every card has counterplay. Mind con= best card in format but still has some counterplay via lance. Dustshoot exists in both formats and is a weaker card in tengu due to the deck diversity and consistency. And if I were to give a 3rd "problem" card it'd be orange light but that's more of a issue for specific decks and there's still counterplay in with difi, my body as a shield, and debunk. Those are the strongest cases you could make all have counterplay any other card in the format is completely fine imo. Veiler and warning do wonders for everything else. But I'm genuinely curious what you think the "problems" of tengu are and how they are more so in existence than in the likes of edison.
@RecitateАй бұрын
Tengu format is rubbish
@willynilly91Ай бұрын
I think one of the inherent problems with Tengu Plant format is evident in the name. Tengu Plants is clearly the best deck and that hurts the potential diversity. What's nice about Edison is that there is no clear best deck and the meta is constantly evolving. While we do have the "Big Three", there are plenty of Tier 1.5 decks that could compete with them very well. I mean just look at the recent Top 16 decklists from the latest RBET, the diversity is insane. I don't really see that being the case with Tengu Plant format and I feel like things would get stale much faster.

I do believe you're correct about the OCG never having ignition priority. The 141 Dandy vs dd crow scenario should also work like you described (dd crow blanking dandy) if Dandys effect goes on a separate chain. That's how you're able to stop those effects. It's not that Crow just kills all GY effects, but if you can move Dandy (or w/e monster) before their effect can be put onto a new chain, it will not work. I do agree that it's something I'd be interesting in trying out. By far the thing I'd think would be the most positively impactful for the format would be no draw going first. That's just in my head, it could easily be bad too, but I'd like to try it. I could take or leave prio, but you did bring up a lot of things like Spark and Break being exponentially more powerful in that scenario so it made me second guess if I think that'd be beneficial, detrimental, or a neutral. Erratas is just too far for sure, I don't really mind my cards not doing what they say, most of my stuff is foreign anyway lmao, but I feel like so many cards iconic/infamous in the format would just disappear, and at that point it's just not Edison anymore.
