1.When did I tell you to come? 2. When did I tell you to come? What would be the difference in its meaning when I stress "I" in spoken English? What would be the meaning when I stress "you" in spoken English? In written English, how can I write both correctly?

Good questions. We can stress any word we want in order to draw attention to it. It's often used to clarify information. For instance, by emphasizing "I", we mean "no one else told you except me". The same would be true with "you" i.e. "I didn't tell anyone else except you". In writing, it's a bit more difficult. Informally, we could use italics, bold or underline. With more formal writing, other techniques are possible (e.g. using a cleft sentence "It was I who told you when to come")

In just 22 minutes, you presented and explained the Future tense and its uses clearly. Many elements were there, that I hadn't learned systematic way before now. Thank you so much.

Sir, could you please clarify the following for me. "It should have started at 11am" Is it compatible with the " It was to have started at 11am" I mean both are similar in meaning. Please reply. Thanks.

Hello Luke! Yes, you are right. A very slight difference is that "should" can carries the sense of "and this is how it is supposed to be", whereas "was to" is more factual about the situation, and has the same qualities as "be to" except it is either for the past or something in the future that is no longer happening. Good to hear from you! Rupert 🙂

thanks you very much for your advanced grammar lessons i need to upgrade my English proficiency skills mastery level to the c1 level , i need to obtain high score 6 and above on the IELTS exam , your lectures are unique as well as valuable because majority of teachers don't have sufficient knowledge to teach students these sophisticated insights . some persons expected that i will have reached the c1 level in 2020 notwithstanding i didn't escalate to that level at that year on account to luck of significant linguistic information if i had been taught by experienced tutors like you , i would have being thoroughly fluent in English , had i had the most professional teachers in English i would had increased to level the c1 earlier ultimately if you will continue to download more videos even thought they are intensive my English will certainly progress further

To item 14: (I will write x I shall write) ... it was my impression that "I will" emphasizes (or at least indicates) "willingness / determination / intention" to write the essay and is, therefore, "stronger", while "I shall" is more neutral. Am i mistaken? ... thank you ...
@EnglishwithRupert
@EnglishwithRupert 2 ай бұрын
It's complicated. Both can indicate a sense of determination by placing extra emphasis on the modal. However, the percentage of times that "shall" is used for forcefulness compared with all its uses is considered higher by most grammarians in comparison with "will". But, in reality, both can be used to this effect. It doesn't matter too much 😁

Can I use modals to guess present habit? Does he go to school daily? Perhaps ,he goes to school daily. =He may/might go to school daily.?/!
@EnglishwithRupert
@EnglishwithRupert 5 ай бұрын
Hi Sandip! Yes, absolutely! I was particularly highlighting future uses in the video, but could/may/might can equally be used for the present, and yes, speculating about a present habit would be a correct use. Thanks for commenting and please feel free to ask any other questions you might have 🙂
@lanaefremova3443

No, you should use Can for general possibility. May/might/could for present/future singular occasion

@@EnglishwithRupert But,he goes to school daily. is not general possibility,a repeatative action, then no modal is correct?!
@EnglishwithRupert
@EnglishwithRupert 5 ай бұрын
When speaking about habits in general, no modal is needed; just the indication of frequency is needed ("I go to school daily"). If speculating about habits (i.e. you don't know if it exists but it's possible), then use the modal ("She might go to school daily, but I'm not sure").
