Addressing The Empty Cups: This segment was a reenactment of the exact same reactions I had, with the actual shots of espresso, minutes before this take. So what you see in the video are not some random, made up descriptions. We realised the camera was dead for the first take so we quickly reshot it with the empty cups as it was a really important part of the video. Not ideal but we’ll definitely be more careful keeping an eye on the camera battery going forward. Corrections: - The 'Pressure Threshold' option is used for auto start and NOT max threshold. For example, setting it to 0.1 will auto start the brew the moment your pressure goes above this threshold. Things We Missed: - You can tare your scales, add the beans and set the weight of the beans as the dose value by hitting the 'Set' button next to the dose. This is the easiest way to set dose and is especially convenient if change dose often. - You can stop logging a brew by just taking your cup off the scales.

It's annoying but it would probably help if you just redid it instead of reenacting.

So much skill coming through to the viewer! I pour my coffee over but its clear that y’all are super serious about this stuff - the humour with the camera dying balanced things out really well!

I traded Gábor a Flair 58 for this thing and it's great! Android users, make sure to engage location or your bluetooth connection might give issues.

It would be great of there was a community of profiles you could download (like blooming, turbo, or Slayer)

I use the app with my Flair 58 and Acaia scale. One feature I wish the app had was the ability to compare any two past brews. Currently you can only see the graph of the shot you pulled against whatever shot was set as the reference brew at the time you pulled the shot. I’d love to have the SEP but for the device, T splitter and gauge it costs more than my Flair. Not sure the extra pressure data justifies the price.
@TheDusty0ne Жыл бұрын
Yeah having the same thoughts. I honestly think that flow is the more important data. Once dialed in the pressure will basically always be the same when you nail the flow rate.

great video (even the dramatization parts), FYI the decent also natively connects to the SEP app purely for viewing the data (you can't control the decent with it). It was helpful for me when the Decent's tablet was down I just set the decent to manual mode and used the SEP app to see what I was doing. It got me super interested in manual mode and it was great to just pull out a phone and start using it.

Great video. I love the detail about the app options. A dealer in Canada sells them now and I'm interested. But I'll be buying an electric grinder first I think.

If I wanted to be able to brew each of these styles of shots equally well in this video using the flair 58 (traditional 9 bar, blooming shot and turbo) would you prefer using the 64 mm SSP Multipurpose burrs or the SSP High Uniformity burrset?

Can the app work with non Acaia BT scales.. such as the Felicita Arc?

This is neat for those people that are into analytical brewing. For me, the brewing is more of an experience that does not need science guiding every step. It's also the reason a machine like the Decent Is not for me, it turns coffee into a chemistry experiment.
@TomJones-tx7pb9 ай бұрын
Not really, because after using this device for more than 1000 shots, it demonstrates that making by feel is quite important. The time it takes to saturate a puck varies from shot to shot, amongst other things, so trying to make it formulaic, as does most Decent users, will not get you optimal results. It is the difference between cooking slavishly to recipes and actually knowing what you are doing and modifying based upon the ingredients of the day. One neat thing this device logs is the lack of correlation between pressure and flow rate. With some coffees the extraction will be faster at 6 bar versus 9 bar at certain phases of the extraction.

Sorry for the late reply, but do you know if the t-adapter and gauge would work on a Flair Pro 2 as well? Or only the Flair 58?

'Wow...okay...how do I...how do I describe this?' A bit airy? Hmm... I love all your work Arāmsē, but I'm not sure about the dramatised reconstruction which seems to me to undermine your very genuine, thoughtful and knowledgeable content. Perhaps not knowing about it being dramatised might have survived unnoticed, or, better yet, cups labelled 1, 2 and 3 might have been sufficient for illustrative purposes, and the rest could have been spoken to camera with all the reflected expression you genuinely would have for the tastings. Sorry for being so damn critical of the fake sipping, mouth-lolling and flavour-pondering moments, but I just couldn't get past how jarring and out-of-place they were. Again, I really love your work, have been subscribed for notifications since Hoffman's link to you, and gain so much from your videos. Thank you, and please keep them coming! 🙏

@@The_Ubatron fair criticism. If it helps I recorded the exact same reactions with the actual shots minutes before this take. This is was a tough video to shoot and we were exhausted. It was a really important part of the video so we went with this option. Not ideal but I guess we’ll be more careful checking the camera more often and keeping an eye on the battery.

@@aramse I've no doubt these were your genuine reactions! I trust everything you do! 😄 It just felt too odd and out-of-character for you... As for the batteries... it's how things go sometimes! No judgement there! It's great to have you on the interwebs sharing your perspective. Cheers to you both! (And sorry for getting the diacritics in the wrong place, above, Ārāmse!)

Does anyone have a spare battery and can tell me which battery it is? I need a replacement. I bought this device straight from the manufacturer when it cam out and it was not supplied with a spare battery back then. My first battery has just run out! BTW I think that mine has shown 100% full always. Thank you for covering this in this video. This info is hard to find.
