Now more than ever, people are brewing their cup of coffee at home. In many cases, however, they are not doing the best they can to extract delicious flavor from the coffee they've got. In this video, Jason Richter will take you through the processing of brewing excellent coffee at home on your home brewer. Though we are focused on using the Technivorm Moccamaster, you can try these on your home coffee brewer.
One of the most important aspects of getting a proper extraction is the quality of your coffee and a good home grinder. Always lean toward an adequate burr grinder over the whirly spice grinder for more even and better results consistently.
Next, choose a homebrewer with optimal water temperature like the Technivorm Moccamaster, or other SCA approved brewers. These coffee brewers produce a consistent water temperature, which is vital for proper brewing.
One of the most overlooked steps in brewing coffee is making sure all your grinds are saturated at the beginning of the brewing process. This will also ensure that your coffee extracts evenly.
Path Coffee Roasters is located in Port Chester, NY where we roast for our wholesale and retail clients.

I think the Moccamaster does a fine job at creating a really well-rounded cup of coffee without all this nonsense with the spoon and agitation; it’s almost pointless, you might as well of poured the water yourself. I own a KGBT741 and anyone watching this looking to up there game or refine their method, or equally buy a TMM, the key takeaway here is ‘grind size is important’ - sadly not going much deeper than that as to what size (I get variable, but some depth on that would be great).

An actual pour over seems easier to me to accomplish than messing around with a spoon during an entire brew cycle. He's pretty much the Lone Ranger with the whole spoon deal. Absolutely nobody else does it. There's reason for that. You don't need to do it to get great tasting coffee.

My daughters bf and his mom are coming in a couple weeks from Sweden, I want to have great coffee and have been researching but this is what she uses. According to these parameters I've never had fresh coffee☹ at home. I never knew there was so much to making great coffee, a long ways from my folks 1 scoop to 10 cups of water Mr Coffee lol

Make sure you rinse the filter paper prior to use and preheat the shower head. Also turn the machine on then off in a locked position for a proper bloom (with spooning still).

What is the True height of this Technivorm Moccamaster unit with lids on? Some sites say 15", some say 15.75". Or is it shorter? Don't know who to believe.

If you have the 3 setting brew basket that sits on a circular base on your Technivorm, you can simply swivel the brew basket back and forth a few times to more evenly disperse the water on the grounds. Since the sprayarm is off center, rotating the basket back and forth allows the water to disperse around the circumference rather than only in the center and is pretty easy. Once the basket's water level is about as high as it will go, give the basket a gentle side to side shake and then leave it alone. This process will take perhaps a minute. The enitre brew cycle takes about 5-6 minutes for all the water to disperse and another minute or so for the basket to drain. If you wish to stay there the entire time, you can then give the basket a litlle shake during the final drawdown for a flatter bed. If this is too much work for an "Automatic" dirp coffee maker, just simply swiveling the basket back and forth for about a minute and then leave it alone and let it brew on its own should do the trick.

Was thinking of purchasing this, but who has time to babysit the coffee as it's brewing, too much trouble. My Bonavita makes great coffee, I heat the pot before brewing and saturate the filter with water. Makes excellent coffee for 1/3 the cost of the Moccamaster brewer. Have you ever brewed without stirring? Seems the shower head design should have been round.

I have and it still produces a nice cup. Stirring just adds another level of consistency. Some people like to take the time, and others don’t. Either way I can appreciate both sides.

Yes. It’s a good way to keep the filter stuck to the sides of the basket and remove any minor paper taste. I didn’t do it here but I don’t think it really matters all that much.

Rick Martin I always start in the middle and then adjust coarser or finer from there to get my desired extraction. It’s very much about personal taste. Feel free to reach out on our site if you have other questions.

Thank you for that. I just ordered the kbgv. I wanted to know what you use to weigh the beans. I keep hearing that its best to go by the weight of the beans. Did you test the coffee with and without the stirring and how much of a difference do you think it made?
@pathcoffeeroasters8278
@pathcoffeeroasters8278 2 жыл бұрын
It’s always best to weight your coffee. You can use a regular kitchen gram scale. By stirring you saturate all the grinds asap and then your extraction is more even. Better extraction = better flavor.

This is why I never trust anything on KZbin. "Yummy" .. LOL no. I'd never drink that fresh roasted of a coffee. Minimum 5 to 7 days after roasting. Also if I'm going to go to this much effort I might as well do a pour over. I have no problems with the Coffee machine manufacturer, though if I had to pick one it would be the Select and I prefer glass. Coffee sitting there for any length of time gets exponentially bad literally over minutes once brewed .. metal carafe or not.

He said not to use coffee a day after roasting, he legit said to wait 5-7 days. Perhaps you jumped around instead of watching the video in it's entirety. You honestly don't have to do any of the stirring or swirling with a Moccamaster; It's just one of the few drip makers that you can do it with due to it's design. If I have time when making a pot I do stir it for no other reason than it's just something to do. If I'm being honest, I'm not sure that it makes a huge difference.

Man, you make this so complicated-- telling stories and going off on tangents, backtracking, interrupting yourself, restarting the process, detailing totally unnecessary things. And you omitted many other important things. Are you stoned? @ 8:55 you messed around so much with your brew it failed to settle and I bet it's luke warm -- as you said a "minute or two' ! Swirl method? Proper extraction? Seriously, waiting 12 minutes for a cup of coffee, the Moccamaster makes in 4 minutes perfectly without any messing around. 🙄
