Great video. This was very helpful. I'm in the middle of building a vertical log splitter similar to the axis but a little bit more heavy duty. It's also gonna have a 28GPM pump. I'm curious if the 1" lines going into a 3/4" port really helps with flow. I love the dump valve, so thanks for telling us where you got it. They are not a commonly available thing. I'm setting the vertical splitter for speed, so flow rate and minimizing restrictions is key and also to keep the heat down. Right now the plan is to with a 4" cylinder but I'm gonna have to weld some larger 3/4" ports onto it to make it fast. Mine will also have a 25 gallon tank. Filtration was also a concern for me. Where did you gat that 80GPM filter housing, I've been looking around and the best I could find so far was 50GPM. I'd rather have it over sized than under sized. I'd love to see your splitter run in real time to see how fast it actually is. I couldn't find a video with it in action on your channel.

Speed, this thing is pretty slow. 12 seconds I think. That giant 6 inch cylinder really slows things down. But it will put a 35 inch wide knotty oak piece through that 8 way wedge which is really nice. The 1 inch lines don't help with flow, they only reduce the heat. That giant filter is from surplus center and I believe it has some giant thread like 1-1/2. I love it though, it should last forever damn near. I also turned a 40 ton county line into my fast resplit machine. Replaced the cylinder with a 3.5 inch cylinder from rugged made. And with that 25 GPM pump that's on it, it runs 5 second cycles times. Absolutely a monster. Let me know what more you'd like to see, and if I missed anything in this response

@@cocoscorner6419 Thanks for the quick response man! That's kinda why I went with a 4" and a 28GPM pump...to make it fast. I'm not sure if it's gonna be fast enough. I might have to go to a 3.5 or 3" cylinder. According to the calculations, I'm looking at about 4.5 second cycle time , with the 4", but thats if the flow isn't restricted much. You definitely need a dump valve on that huge cylinder. I might need to do the same to get a faster retract time because the valve body becomes the restriction on the retract. I've seen quite a few vertical splitters on the tube with 3" cylinders and smaller 22GPM pumps, with no dump valve, that move pretty damn quick. I have an account on Surplus Center, I'll have to check and see what they have. Coincidently, the beam and splitter head that I'm using is from a Northern Tool 37 ton splitter that had a 5" cylinder on it. I'm selling that 5" cylinder to try and recoup some of the cost of the splitter I'm building. 😏

Keep the hydraulic hoses long, they help to cool the oil... as they dissipate heat

Can you tell me what the part numbers are on the Dump Valve cartridge and valve body block. Its stamped right on the parts.

No, I'm not sure what they are selling now, but I believe split geeze sells a different model number now. I'd recommend googling them and buying the dump valve that fits your exact usage. They have 2-3 different gpm ratings
