Just a comment for any of those going for their R-Date. And yes! I do realise how old this video is. Though for people like me, it's still very useful. Any-hoo, I passed my Advanced Course today (Yay me). Just wanted to clarify that the scoring system has either changed or the person who made the video was mistaken in advertising "21 points for this exercise" on each exercise. 1. The TOTAL amount of points you can incur for the ENTIRE assessment is 20 points. Meaning, you can incur 20 points across all 5 exercises and still pass. 2. The MAXIMUM amount of points you can incur for each exercise = 10 points. So, 11 points incurred for a single exercise = failed the assessment. 3. For example; if you put your foot down twice, say, in the figure 8/u-turn exercise. That will incur 10 points (5 points per foot down). However, you can still pass, as you've only incurred 10 points for that exercise (As per the maximum) and less than 20 for the entire assessment. If you then hit one of the "snake eyes" (as they call them) in the weave exercise, that'll be another 5 points. So 15 points incurred in total across 2 exercises = pass. 4. Failing to stop within 11 meters at 30kmp/h will incur 21 points and obviously, fail the assessment. Hope that's helpful. And thank you to the creator of this video. Helped me understand what's to expect before doing my course!

Instructor clearly says that a maximum amount can be deducted during each activity, not allowed to be deducted. Specifically noted at the first test when he says you can cross over the line 7 times or put your foot down 6 times you’ll only lose 10 points.

@@Xedokai never too late for a reply when it’s in reference to a video. Has the video changed? And, it is in fact only possible to lose a maximum amount of points per exercise. The only individual test you can fail is a the braking test. Otherwise you fail by accumulating points that carry over.

A note for everyone, I did my Advanced Level 2 course in April 2023 and it is still exactly the same as what’s presented in this video. Tip for anyone doing it, keep calm, and use plenty of throttle for the friction zone while riding rear brake, wring the f**** out of it if you have to. They do give you plenty of time to practice before the assessment.

This course was taken in Australia. You have to do the basic course to get your learners. Then an advance course to get your r-date license which you'll be on for a year. Then you'll be eligible to upgrade to your full license. Would imagine they have a different system in the US.

A lot of people have been telling me that practising on my bike (Vstar-650) will make this course a whole lot easier. It actually makes me a little more anxious about it. I sucked at u-turn during the beginners course and I don't use clutch or brake when u-turning my bike (which I can do in just over two car spaces).
@LJawz4 жыл бұрын
In some sense it might make it easier, as the bikes you'll be doing the course on will be a lot lighter and have a better turning circle. My advice would be to keep practising on the vstar and begin to start using clutch and rear break to try get the tightest U-turn you can. And remember to look in the direction you want the bike to go, that helped me a lot.
@conroygreyfin70114 жыл бұрын
@@LJawz I have this odd feeling that a lighter bike will throw me off a little. It is amazing how much just moving your head a little can change an entire turn. I still have about 14 months before I even have to attempt the advanced course though. Appreciate the video and response.
@petes63474 жыл бұрын
@@conroygreyfin7011 Yeah it will be different. But those TU250x are easy to ride.. I did my Ridersafe 2 today, and after only a few minutes, I was doing better on it than I do on my bike. So it was a good choice for the test. Practicing on yours is still worth while, of course: on the day you have some learning to to, but everybody does. To pass the test, I think they're going to insist you use clutch and brake. The whole day of the advanced course is about low speed.. the words Friction Zone were heard over and over. And Turn your head!
@conroygreyfin70114 жыл бұрын
@@petes6347 The only downside to practising on my bike is the friction zone almost doesn't exist which I have read may just be the way the bike was made. But that challenge is part of the fun.

I went today, unfortunately i didn't pass my basic rider first day lmao. i didn't feel i did bad, here and there i may of did quick take off but nothing that would be very dangerous. I understand clutch mechanics but i think my biggest problem was squeezing the tank with my legs a lot of the time. so i was having some difficulties.I have enlisted in the military so i cant get another shot at it till possibly later this year (2020) after they booked me weeks after i paid... i found my wrist slipped down the throttle (not applying just the angle) after time. They tried to give me advice but it didn't help. they also changed my bike three times :/ so i had to get use to the clutch on each bike. Guys were nice at St Agnes but i found it didn't help i was among a group of experience dirt bikers so i stuck out like a sore thumb. Can you give me any advice to take away?? do u think i should just get a dirt bike and ride it on some family property then go for my L's? thanks for the content
@LJawz4 жыл бұрын
Hey mate! Sorry to hear you didn't pass first time. It can be a bit of an overwhelming experience especially when you're there with experienced riders. So what exactly did they deduct points from in the final assessment? If you were doing the basic course I believe it was the two turns and the emergency brake? Some advice I could give that helped me then, and I still use today, is look in the direction you want the bike to go. When doing turns or cornering, look through the turn and not right Infront. As far as clutch control goes, the best thing for it is practise. If you have a friend or relative that has some property with a dirt bike, it would help to maybe take it out for an hour and practise taking off, changing gears and stopping without an "audience". Hope this helped! And all the best with the military.
