Boring story: I once wrote a long ass (4000+ words) article in 2012, on a free writing platform. That article went quite viral and brought in over 1 million unique page views from Google over a course of 20 months. Thousands of social shares, emails, and comments too. I didn't do any blackhat stuff and I followed all the important SEO tips you've been talking about in your blog posts/videos. Post continued to rank on page 1. What happened? Free platform closed down and I gave up my hopes on Google. I completely neglected Google ever since and just a few weeks ago started paying more attention to it because of awesome people like you and Neil Patel. It's good to know that some things like long-form content and on page seo have not changed and are here to stay. Thanking you from the bottom of my heart. :)

Thank you for replying Brian. I'm doing just that now. But I was fully neglecting Google because a lot of other people were and forgot the fact that it did work for me in the past. I managed to get my blog's views up to 80k+ page views (all from Pinterest) within 2 months of working on it. But I kept bumping into your posts here and there, and it all started making some sense to me. People who complain about Google algorithms and preach about focusing on social media only, forget the fact Facebook/Pinterest also roll out changes every now and then. So it makes no sense to only ignore Google. Thanks again. :)

Very effing useful. Filled up a half page of notes. Biggest takeaway: High CTR with < 76% bounce = better ranking. Which means you have to take good care of the title, description, display URL etc that show in the results.

From what I can tell most people indirectly involved in the industry (marketers, CXOs, etc) are quite ignorant of anything beyond "our website is awesome and we did backlinks". Morover this video and a video from Rand have been only ones who have mentioned RankBrain. I mean, just mentioned. That's it! I wonder *when* people will realize it is not so much optimization to be search engine accessible, but more of a getting things straight up correct from day 1. Hi Brian. Big fan of yours. I bought your course "SEO that works" And I've gone through it twice! Like the direction with the little humor bits and outtakes. ​I do not agree that these are advanced as you have been talking about a lot of these for a while! Anyway, AHREFS is another great tool to quickly find targeted broken links in your niche. ( I Know you know this, I am just sharing :) Simply plug in one of your competitors URL's and go the the overview and click on Backlink profile ​and then click on broken. You now have a list of referring pages that are linking to your competitor, but the links are broken. Very Powerful. Keep up the great work!

I definitely agree with the crawl errors. A few months back I moved a subdomain to a subfolder after watching a MOZ video. I got over 2,000 crawl errors and my traffic went from like 12,000+ clicks a month to 7,000. After I realized that I moved the site back to the subdomain and now am seeing my traffic get better, but I lost a lot of traffic for 2-3 months.

Hi! real helpful video. Got a few questions. 1) When I am logged into my google account, the keyword I search in the search bar often shows me ones that I previously searched for. This means I need to log out and then write the keyword in google search bar to get accurate long tail keywords people are searching for, right? 2) If the minimum length of an article per say is 1890 as you suggest then what is the maximum length? 3) As you suggest, “put your keyword in the first 100 words of your content” so does the keyword need to be exact? For example, in your case, can it be “tools for seo” instead of “seo tools”?

Hi Brian, very nice video. I've heard from a different source that backlinks are no longer a factor, or at least not as much as it used to be in the past. The reason being is that many webmasters and bloggers "exploited" backlinks to link back to their "mediocre" content, which is not what satisfies google. How true is that statement? I stopped worrying about backlinks and I focus more on comments. Another thing, where do you put all your courses and where I can find them? I thought you might be found in Udemy but I couldn't find you there. Keep up the good work!

I ran some of your blog pages on it to test it and you have C's D's and E's on the ones i tried, plus F for leverage browser caching, cache validator and E for server scaled images . Are those acceptable ranges? They say high priority so i'm wondering if they are still high priority stuff that needs fixed. Thanks.
