My own personal "discover by accident" moment came with SnS the other day. After almost finishing the whole story on a fresh playthrough I finally learned that Perfect Rush was not a timing-based activation, but rather dependant upon you not releasing Circle (B) before pressing Triangle (Y). The first guide I saw said it was timing based (and the timing was a little wonky), and nothing I have ever watched since ever explicitly said how it was done. You can still go into Perfect Rush even after the sword glows red from backstep (before you automatically leap forward) so long as you're holding Circle/B while pressing Triangle/Y. Needless to say this has made activating PR much simpler.

Something for CB: Move which a lot of players don't use is a slinger burst after guarding. It's particularly strong when using things like flaspods(they automatically detonaty right in front of you)/red pods (collected from monsters). Guard/Guard point > slinger burst > Elemental Discharge 2. Reason why it's so good is because most monsters will flinch back and make roar-like animation right into your face. With good monster knowledge and positioning it's possible to unload good amount of elemental damage/stun buildup. Bonus when using Savage Axe for additional hits. And it's really good for stunlocking monsters when playing in coordinated groups. Your *put any weapon here* teammates will thank you greatly.

a few more bonus tips for GL and SA: GL: during the animation of the forward dash attack you can spam shelling to cancel the attack itself into a shell. this has the advantage that shelling ignores monster hardness so it won't bounce and when you combo it into a reload into the slam you can enter a loop of attacks that ALL have mind's eye. SA: after the mounting finisher, while you drop down you can actually clutch claw onto the monster before you even hit the ground and go right into another ZSD. requires you to either get amped during the finisher (not every phial type can do that) or already be amped during it.

Lance: Problem A lot of lances moves can be used mid combo. However the normal block and the clutchclaw counter cant be. If you press the left trigger + cricle mid combo nothing will happen meaning if you want to use the clutchclaw counter, you have to stopp attacking for 1-2 sec and then use the counter, which is really akward, takes you out of the flow and cant be done against quick monster attacks if you dont stop attacking way before hand. Solution There is a way to use the clutchclaw counter quickly mid combo. The same way you can qucikly use a counter thrust mid combo and cancle it directly into a power guard (so hold block -> circle -> X) you can also cancle the counter thrust into the clutch claw counter by pressing the left trigger instead of the "X" Button. It will do a little animation where the hunter gets the claw out, but that is just for show, the instant you press the left trigger and your hunter starts the animation, any physicall attack of the monster will trigger the clutch claw counter. Making this a very fast and fluid way to use it. (note that CCC doesnt work as a counter against elemental attacks like fire balls)

Another thing for the hammer: First of all after your Upswing or brutal Upswing you can also perform a clutch claw attack it is a bit weaker since you won't spin but still a great move and secondly while charging your hammer you can perform a slinger burst without using aour charge level letting you hit your brutal big bang easier if you have a ammo that can stagger the monster I also gotta talk about the best tech for the switch axe. While doing the wild swings you can perform a slinger burst which pushes you backwards so you can dodge with it. There is a variety of follow ups you can do afterwards but one of my favorites has to be the fade slash( by pressing back and Y) which positions you even further back and gives you a lot space between you and the monster. You can also perform a stationary slinger burst after performing a morph attack back into the axe mode.

That DB tip with the double circle into clutch claw is actually insane. Ty! Ive put over 800 hours into the game as an IG main and i did a bit of LBG and DB on the side. I got really used to the ability of being able to just drop onto the monster with the clutch claw with IG and missed that feature with DB. Sidenote for IG users, yes its tenderize isnt instant.. UNLESS. You hit circle and do a single claw swipe, in the same method as when you turn a monster when youre on its face to wallbang it. The single claw swipe and the follow up IG special move with tenderize the part and is overall faster than doing it twice. Also a big note for the R1 for aerial insect glaives spam. If you get used to having a slower kinsect, it will do more damage and hit harder as it drills slower through the monster, in the same way piercing ammo does. So High Power and Low speed Kinsects are your friend here! It will change how you gather essences a bit. You will have to be close to the monster and get your essences from the traditional targetting and take a bit longer due to your lil bugs reduced speed, OR. You make sure your kinsect is always fed and you R1 dive for two extracts. Different ways to play but tons of fun :)

There was one little detail I found for Greatsword that also involves the Slinger Burst, but its for Wide Slash. I cant remember the exact details of it so I'll revisit it and edit this comment later, but Slinger Burst actually buffs one of the Wide Slash attacks. Normally the attack is just an uncharged swing, but doing SB then going into it should produce the familiar charged attack red glow to show it's been buffed up. Bonus GS Fun Fact that I know for fully certain: In Rise, if you're using GS and bring along a Palamute, your Palamute can also charge their attack while you charge any of your slashes (Charged, Strong, and/or True). I tried to replicate this with hammer, but the Palamute never charged its attack when I charged my own with Hammer. Dogs love big big swords, apparently.

Recently after 200h with CB I realized that the long combo of super amped element discharge {SAED} can be shortened. when the shield is charged, instead of starting in sword mode and doing: [charge/ sword charged double slash/ sword shield thrust/ SAED] It's both faster and safer to start in axe mode, because then with the shield charged you instead only do: [SAED] And whilst you still have the shield charged, you can just loop the combo: [sword charged rising slash/ sword charged rising slash/ charge philes/ sword morphed slash/ SAED], since the element discharge returns you back into sword mode. Making the 8 input combo loop turn into a 5 input combo loop instead, the best part being after the first 4 inputs you can reorient yourself and wait for the right opportunity, to release the super amped element discharge with just 1 last input instead of 4 inputs, and then afterwards just start the loop again. I'm probably not playing the game optimally, I'm just having fun and learning new things as I go. however as explained in the video I didn't know that you could make yourself slide on purpose, always seemed like a slope was necessary, but I probably just did it accidentally.

Great video! One thing I’d like to say about the light bowgun’s whole dodge reload thing is that you can use other ammo types to continue reloading your main ones. Let me explain: I use the Stygian Zinogre lbg, which i like because it has rapid fire spread 2 and regular spread 3. Problem is, both of these have abysmal reload times and I really don’t want to use exclusively reload mods on it. Instead, I order my ammo so that my faster reloading types are right next to the spread ammo. This means that if I can’t use a dodge reload after emptying my spread ammo, instead of going into a normal reload, i do this: 1. swap to an ammo type adjacent to spread on the list and fire it 2. immediately switch back to spread and do a dodge reload if you’re quick enough, you can use this to get back any “missed” dodge reloads

Nice video, learned some new tricks (for GS and Bow in particular :)) and how to do inputs Some extra things not covered the video: -Sword and Shield can get into Perfect Rush by performing a slinger burst (aim your slinger while unsheathed, hit your lock camera button, fire) and then hitting your Leaping Slash input. Keep in mind this will cover a crazy amount of distance, considerably more than you do after a backhop, so make sure you have the distance to spare. Additionally, the backhop has a lot of invincibility frames, so learning to backhop effectively is very important! -Gunlance can reload the wyrmstake in several ways, one from a normal reload, second from the upthrust into a scaleable wall as explained, or third by loading your Wyrmstake Blast (which you should be doing anyway if you're playing a shelling style of GL). Additionally, you can fire your shells higher up by firing them after using the Rising Thrust move! You can do this by performing Rising Thrust, fire a shell, do a basic poke, and repeat shelling and poking until you're out of shells, at which point you can quick reload or slam your lance downwards for your heavier hits. -Charge Blade has another alternative team friendly Savage Axe combo: Dash Slam, Elemental Discharge 2, slinger burst, Elemental Discharge 2, slinger burst, etc. Note that this will keep you locked in a long attack animation for a lot of your uptime, and it cannot be used if you just performed a flinch shot (without Slinger Capacity, anyways), so knowing about the Dash Slam into Elemental Discharge 2 and repeat combo is still useful (I'll be taking it into mind) -Insect Glaive's Downward Thrust attack gets even better when you have a slower and stronger kinsect - I use the Vezirstag 3 Forz kinsect, swapped to whichever element my target is weakest to (Your kinsect does strong elemental damage, don't sleep on it!). The "drill" mentioned ticks based on how long the kinsect's hitbox overlaps with the monster's, so more time in there means more damage! Bonus pro tip: pick a glaive that has the "Spirit and Strength Boost" effect so that when you powercharge your kinsect (aim kinsect input + both attack buttons), you get the effects of both environmental and monster slinger ammo! -Bow can use scaleable walls to fire a spread of arrows towards the ground, similar to that of Power Shot. You get some decent airtime from this and can use it to simultaneously evade and punish a sweeping attack coming across the ground! You can also follow it up with Charging Sidestep right back into that wall (Requires Evade Extender - level unknown) for another burst. Situational, but if you score a topple in the right spot, you're in for some massive damage!

As a bowgun player, I've learned some tech that are pretty valuable: For LBG, if you fail to evade reload, you can switch to another ammo type, start another evade reload, then switch back to the ammo type you want to reload before the slide animation begins. You can also use wyvernblast to start an evade reload. For HBG, adjusting the special scope zoom changes the supercritical range, which may differ depending on the ammo, situation, playstyle, etc. You don't have to aim down the scope all the time; you can opt to release your aim after every shot so that you can see the surroundings better.

One for Bow: start your combos with the wide shot instead of the straight shot because it doesn't use up any stamina, but the downside is that it has very little range compared to all the other shots. So it is niche because when playing Bow you generally never want to be THAT close to anything since most monsters can just sneeze on you and kill you, but it *is* free damage considering it costs none of your valuable stamina.

SnS: Guarding with your weapon unsheathed lets you do the backhop without the use of a combo, meaning you can dodge anything with ease, since the backhop has a large window. (R + immediately back + O) For better effect, turn away from the attack before blocking, so you jump through the incoming attack. Also, unsheathing by guarding + rolling immediately makes the claw uppercut move basically usable from anywhere, without having to use your unsheathe attack.

Okay, I want to mention something for dualblades. The clutch claw attack after the dashing strike, that's not the only way way do it. If you're like me, a diehard dash juice addict, you probably don't like being forced to throw that first lunge out due to sometimes putting yourself out of position for the actual claw strike if you're looking to soften a specific part, or are just fighting something small where you might overshoot and waste your soften opportunity. Enter demon mode, dodge, swing once with a basic attack, then you'll be allowed to do the double upward swings -> claw attack via the dash attack imputs without needing to do the giant lunge that normally starts it. Does this matter at all? No. But I've seen people do it and had to mess around for a long time to figure it out, so now everyone else gets free info too.

There's actually a cool third way to do the tenderize combo, especially useful when facin a monster for the first time and you dont know the openings. You can do the infinite triangle combo (Triangle -> triangle -> Triangle + side move key -> Triangle......) into tenderize, you ll notice the same attack you do after the dash you mention (hook, i think it is called), and then you can double circle and clutch onto the monster the same way. It is pretty useless for the big majority of DB users but when you put the hours onto the weapons is nice to have this versatility, figured out you might like the info ^^

I didn't know the hammer tip about walking rather than rolling off ledges. Might be useful for Fatalis when the bugger won't move away. Not really a hammer user but I can use it. Also was not aware that Lance's Power Guard was omnidirectional. I've done something to this effect against Kulve Taroth on CB. Guarding in the fire pools (with Guard Up) will push you back for as long as you're still in the fire, unless you have Guard 9 equivalent (Guard 5 armor skills + Shield Charge + Guardpoints after every guard reaction). Side note: spamming guard points does some pretty good damage and REALLY good KO build up so, while it's not recommended you actively do this, it's definitely convenient when the stars align. Speaking of situational stuff, the Gunlance wall climb thing is also new to me. I wish every weapon had some sort of wall interaction. Most of them do, but not all. Switch axe users should also learn to use the fade slash which can get them some distance after closing in on a monster for damage. Pretty sure you perform a side slash while holding backward on the left stick.

The one about sword and shield being able to reposition a perfect rush seems to work better if you roll towards where the camera is facing and then moving to left stick in the direction you want to do the perfect rush

New(ish) to LS so probably not all that advanced, but you can also Sheath after landing the Longsword's Spirit Roundslash to immediately hit an Iai Slash. Do a Fade Slash, and then with the Iai's gauge buildup you should have enough to do another Spirit combo right after. Makes it really easy to build meter quickly, AND reduce downtime to keep dealing damage. Also, while the Gauge is building from Iai, you can delay the input of a Spirit Roundslash slightly. If you don't have enough meter to finish right away, you might soon after.

Not really much of a “tech”, but with insect glaive, you can get easy monster mounts (with it being an aerial weapon), but even easier monster mounts so long as you have all essences at once. Do the primary attack (I play mnk so left click) to do a spinning slash downwards. More downward attacks from the spinning slash = more chance to mount and knock down monster.

Speaking about Hunting Horn, you didn't speak about how the number of notes in your melody affects the number of hits during the second activation combo (not sure about the first activation) It can be pretty sad if your trying to dodge with directional activations but your melody doesn't allow it

For people still getting used to their weapons, not a tech tip, more like innate weapon passives: Switch axe's sword mode and hammer's tier 3 charged brutal big bang have 'true mind's eye' which guarantees your attacks will not bounce off ultra hard parts like uragaan's chin and rajang's enraged arms. Hello monster hunter community, I have a question that I need to ask. So basically I just defeated velkhana and I want to grind his armour set, but instead of having a full ‘a’ set (alpha) or a full ‘b’ set (beta) I want to have the ‘b’ set helmet with the rest of the armour being from the ‘a’ set. The question I need to ask is will I still get the full set bonus skill even if it’s a mixture between a and b set. I think it should still give me the set skill because its still velkhana armour, just want to make sure tho
