That was one great video and I can't wait to try it with a 10x10 tarp. Even in the spring and summer it would work pretty well in a rain.

As a former Bundeswehr soldier I enjoy seeing you wearing the same kind of olive green shirt with the German colours on the sleeves that I wore the major part of 15 month conscription. That was 35 years ago. I don't think they are still standard issue but have since been replaced by camouflage patterned ones. Are these shirts a thing in the U.S. outdoor community or is it rather a coincidence? The stuff they had back in those days was very durable. I still have two pairs of woolen Bundeswehr socks, and the last olive T-shirt only wore out five years ago after many hours of garden work. I was not assigned to the reserve on discharge, so I did not take home my combat dress, just boots, socks and underwear. In any case, thank you so much for sharing your vast knowledge and experience with us. Greetings from Germany!

Hey Blackie- Ive tried this configuration one time a few years back in late November and even though the fire was about 12 ft away, it did work. Keep in mind, their was no wind that night either. Thanks for showing this, as I had completely forgot about this until seeing this video. Till nextime- be good-

If the diameter of available trees is smaller than you want, a couple of spreader sticks in between the 2 ridge lines may be useful? Courtesy of Half Vast Flying

Yeah I've used double ridgeline for years just for the initial thing of having a double line to hang stuff on and then it makes a little more space under the tarp I've never thought of it catching warm error anything like that but.....

Please do a video on staying cool in summer time thanks . I was watching Sean Kelly and he suggested not carrying paracord. Instead he suggested 36# bank line. What are your thoughts
@Bucky1836 Жыл бұрын
Its what i carry and make ridgelines with if that helps

If you don't have large trees, a feller could make up some spanners out of 1/2" PVC with a "U" notch in each end. One on each end of the tarp and if you like, a third one in the middle. They'll be light and not take up much space. The spanners could also be utilized for the same set-up without trees if you're sleeping on the ground. Use your trekking poles guyed out with the double line, and the spanners to give you the width at the top. Or, substitute for your hiking staff and a stick if you prefer no trekking poles.

Question Blackie, would ever consider using a spray adhesive and glue a mylar blanket to the under side of your poncho
@BLACKIETHOMAS Жыл бұрын
it will make a stiff and loud poncho a reusable space blanket works better

By the way for those that think of the long fire as only Siberian, take a look at the fire in this WW2 propaganda news reel at around 12:10 kzbin.info/www/bejne/hme1d2ymmL2bjcU By the way you might recognize the narrator, Lorne Greene from Bonanza.
