Recently, I had a complete reverse shoulder replacement. For 5 years, I was told there was nothing that could be done due to severe arthritis & bone loss. I'm 66 yrs old & I'm very grateful that I found a doctor willing to help me. Dr. Naik rebuilt my life by rebuilding my shoulder. I've had a hip replaced & rotator cuff. With this pain was almost non-existent. My only advice is: Don't allow fear of surgery to delay seeking help. Good luck & blessings to all.

Thank you sooo much!!! I have ONLY severe arthritis, for example, I had Cauda Equina Syndrome. But I have no tears in my shoulder. Just Spurs and pain!!! I hope I am a candidate!! This answered my concerns. This is a quick lecture, simple ro grasp and the MD really cares.

I had my right shoulder repaired about 20 years ago, The operation went well and I was pain-free for about twenty years, then my shoulder began to be very painful again. My left shoulder became very painful about ten years ago. I was given physio and injections into the joint, but this didn't help so I saw a specialist, after more injections he decided I needed an operation. I had a scan done which showed arthritis in the shoulder joint and the shoulder only wanted cleaning out. I was operated on but without my knowledge, it was done by a trainee surgeon who did the operation under the guidance of a trained surgeon. After the operation, my shoulder was much worse. When I went back to see the surgeon he wouldn't examine me and said there was nothing more he could do for me. After months of constant pain, I was sent to see another surgeon. I had another scan done and this scan showed a 30mm rotator cuff tear, snapped tendons and a snapped bicep tendon. I was again operated on. After the operation, the surgeon said there wasn't much he could do for me as there had been too much damage done in my previous operation. I eventually managed to find another surgeon who said he could do a shoulder replacement on my left and right shoulders. He said he would start with the left shoulder. That was four years ago and because of health problems, it has been postponed four times. I now have a date for the first operation, that is if nothing else goes wrong. Nobody should have to suffer as I have. Since I wrote these comments I have had my left shoulder replaced. I am into five weeks since the operation and my shoulder is very painful and I have very limited movement of my arm. I hope it improves as I have had many years of pain with my shoulder and it would be great to be pain-free in the future.

I’m really sorry for your troubles! I know that living with pain is just plain awful. I’m at the beginning of the process of a left shoulder replacement due to severe arthritis pain. I have all day pain - not 24 x 7 because I can sleep pretty well with a pillow under my left arm and some maneuvering. If I shift from my position at all in the night, though, it’s instant stabbing pain that can easily go to a 9 or 10 and then I have to come down from the pain to go back to sleep! Just awful how it affects the quality of your life. I wish you the best of luck with your most recent surgery and healing! ❤

@@gmaellen5530 I know what you are going through. I tend to sit downstairs most of the night because I can't sleep either, I am happy when morning comes. I was diagnosed with stenosis in my lumbar spine and cervical spine many years ago. I am losing the use of my legs and hands and I had an MRI scan which showed I need an operation as quickly as possible, which in England will probably means months or years. I hope you can get your operation and it is successful. I hope you have a nice Christmas and a pain-free New Year. Best Wishes, Joe

So sorry these things have happened to you. How could any surgeon allow a trainee to do this even with him watching. I have massive tears right now but only pain when I use my shoulder. I can lift it straight up and straight to the side and straight in front of me. But I can't lift it to dishes and bring the dish down. I can't pick up my coffee pot and although I can reach straight out to the side, I can't lift my coffee cup and bring it into my mouth. I hold my head over to take a pick, brush, comb through it but can hold my arm close in to wash my hair, with pressure on my shoulder that limits the time for washing. Hold my elbow out to eat and I have to hold my arm in close to drink my coffee cup or drink from anything else. There's so much more but the doctor from a prestigious facility told me there's nothing he can do outside of a reverse joint replacement, and he says he would feel guilty putting me through that since I have other amazing range of motion. I've had both knees replaced somewhere else that gave me a small little red/pinkish that was 10 mg of Oxycontin, Tramadol, and believe this or not, EXTRA STRENGTH TYLENOL! AT MY SECOND CHECK UP THE NURSE TRIED TO TALK ME OUT OF ANOTHER PRESCRIPTION OF THE LITTLE TINY OXYCONTIN PILLS. SHE ASKED ME HOW OFTEN I TOOK THEM AND I TOLD HER ON A TIMELY BASIS. SHE RAISED HER VOICE TO ME AND SAID YOU'RE TIMING THEM!! AND TRYING TO MAKE IT SOUND LIKE I WAS GETTING ADDICTED. I LET A LITTLE BOY NURSE TALK ME OUT OF A PAIN PILL THAT I DESPARETELY NEEDED UPON DISCHARGE. I WAS STRESSED TO THE MAX. THEY GAVE ME A TALK ABOUT OPIOIDS AND ADDITION AND I TOLD THEM IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BECOME ADDICTED YOU WILL NOT BE!! OH THEY DISAGREED AND DISAGREED!! IT ANGERED ME I CAN TELL YA THAT. I'M 71 YEARS OLD AND I KNOW THERE'S A POSSIBILITY OF BECOMING ADDICTED HOWEVER, I'M NOT ONE WHO EVER WANTS TO BE. A STUDENT TALKED TO ME ABOUT IT TOO, I SAID TO HIM, I'VE NEVER EVEN IN MY LIFE SMOKED MARIJUANA AND GUESS WHAT... TO THAT HE COULD NOT OPEN HIS MOUTH TO ME. I'M QUITE SURE THEY ALL HAD SMOKED IT!! I DIDN'T WANT TO GO BACK THERE FOR MY SHOULDER. THEY MADE ME FEEL LIKE I WAS WANTING TO GET ADDICTED IT JUST MADE ME FEEL SO DOWNGRADED. TRAMADOL AND GOD KNOWS EXTRA STRENGTH TYLENOL DIDN'T TOUCH THAT KIND OF PAIN!! AND I HAD TO SUFFER IT OUT. THIS WAS DUE TO OPIOID ADDICTION GOING ON ALL OVER AND THE STREET PEOPLE ARE STILL GETTING THOSE DARN DRUGS. THEY CANNOT EVER STOP IT BECAUSE THERE ARE THE ELIT'S WHO GET THEIR POCKETS FILLED WITH MONEY AND COULD CARE LESS ABOUT OUR CHILDREN!! BUT I GO IN AND OTHERS GO INAND GET TREATED LIKE THEY ARE ALL ADDICTS OR JUST WANT THOSE DRUGS FROM THEM. I HAD THAT TO GO THROUGH TWICE!! THIS WAS ANOTHER PRESTIGIOUS UNIVERSITY AND THEY HOLD MANY, MANY AWARDS AND THE SURGEON I HAD IS HIGHLY RESPECTED FOR HIS TEAM GETTING THINGS DONE THOROUGHLY AND HE DEFINITELY IS THE BEST OF THE BEST!! BUT NOT TO HOLD PAIN MEDICATION FROM PATIENTS AFTER A MAJOR PAINFUL SURGERY LIKE THAT. NOW HERE'S ANOTHER HIGHLY RESPECTED SURGEON WHO REALLY DOES NOT WANT TO REPAIR MY SHOULDER. THEY ARE SO MUCH YOUNGER AND FOR WHAT YEARS I HAVE LEFT I'D LIKE TO CONTINUE TO DO WHAT I ENJOY AND THAT'S WORKING OUTSIDE ON MY PROPERTY. I TAKE GREAT PRIDE IN MY PROPERTY! HE DID SAY IF I GOT IN TOO MUCH PAIN I CAN CALL AND SAY I WANT THE SURGERY. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO NOW I HATED TO HAVE ANOTHER SURGERY AT THE SAME TIME BUT I ALSO HAVE A LUMBAR FACET JOINT PROBLEM THAT'S KIND OF SLIPPED DOWN FROM A FALL I HAD. THAT MAY END UP IN SURGERY. PLUS, A PRIVATE PROBLEM THAT COULD LEAD TO SURGERY. I DON'T WANT TO WAIT TILL I'M TO OLD TO GET THESE THINGS DONE EITHER. SO, I'M IN A DELIMA I FEEL LIKE. I'VE LOST A FIRST HUSBAND, MY TWO CHILDREN AND FATHER. IT'S FILLED MY MIND AND HEART WITH SO MUCH GRIEF AND PRESSURE THAT I DON'T KNOW WHICH WAY TO TURN!

I recently had a shoulder resurfacing surgery, where the ball was capped with a titanium ceramic cap. My glenoid cup was left intact. I noticed in this video resurfacing procedure was not addressed. I went with this procedure because there were no physical activity limitations once I had healed. it seems like it could be a great option for a lot of younger active people. My procedure was done in Seattle, Washington with Dr. Pritchett.

hello guys i had a reverse total shoulder replacement last july so i’m about a year and 4 months . let me tell you i have my shoulder back for first time in 25 . i prev had an open shoulder replacement stabilization procedure amd they had to make my shoulder tight to prevent future dislocations. the down side was severe rangers of motion issues that got worse every year . til for about last 10 years i had no ability to put my left arm overhead , sleeping was impossible , the shoulder got fatigued so easily , now fast forward had my reverse and i’m playing golf again , working out again ( nothing heavy overhead ) my dr gas out no restrictions on me . the pain to me was minimal. just follow drs instructions amd do your therapy , get an ice machine was very helpful . i slept on recliner two days only then in my bed . i promise you that your only regret is why you waited so long . the pain from the arthritis was gone as soon as the nerve block wore off i knew it was a success , i did swell up a lot but that’s all normal. . good luck to you

@XRP-now-co6lz had my surgery two days ago. When the surgeon got into my shoulder he determined that I needed a reverse shoulder replacement, as my socket was too worn away for the anatomic replacement. I received a nerve block, and I have not needed any narcotic pain meds since the surgery, it's just mildly sore and that's it. not bad, I'm able to manage around the house quite well. Hope yours goes well

Thank you for a highly informative presentation on shoulder surgery. I wish I had been educated on this procedure before I had a reverse shoulder replacement last year. Being a nurse forever, I need more information than a layperson to feel comfortable with the surgery. ????? Is pre-surgery education recommended for first-time surgeons with this approach ???? Does Medicare cover the cost of this prosthesis? In October, I'm scheduled to have a reverse shoulder on my left arm where the ball and socket have been decimated from years of arthritis and a torn rotator cuff repaired last decade. For this surgery, I'll be receiving a custom 3-D-designed prosthesis. This is the first time my surgeon, who is excellent, will be using this device in surgery. After viewing Dr. Stephens's session, I have reservations.

I have full tear irreparable superspinatis on my dominent arm. Surgeon wants to do cadaver tissue across to act as my missing tendon to keep the humerous from raising up (Superior Capsular Repair). Says once arthritis sets in, this won't work & I'll need Total or Reverse shoulder replacement, which he does not do. From what you've said I presume Reverse in my case. Do you think his plan can save joint from arthritis damage? Or should I be looking at Reverse Shoulder now or in the future instead? I have good function, mild pain, not much strength. Pain is in the front inside corner where I'm told the bicep tendon ties in. Some sleep disturbance. I'm an active 72 woman. Do reformer pilates 2-3 x week (minus arm moves that cause pain). I'm scheduled for Sept 18 - but angonizing if I'm making the right choice. Is the bicep tendon impacted by these surgeries too?

This was excellent presentation! But after having pain for years and doctor just telling me it was arthritis. I having to tug and pull out ton or more of equipment on my own . So I retired then got to point I couldn’t lift a coffee cup a new friend suggested a specialist in sports Medecine in Chattanooga Tennessee . At age 69 in 2018 MRI I was told showed 4 ligaments torn loose retracted to my elbow, and my biceps totally neuropathy., bone spurs and arthritis. So not explaining anything about what could be done he would repair with 50% success results . Now here I am 74 kept telling me it was arthritis then MRI I’m told has torn away from anchor , arthritis and spurs so now telling me reversal. I’m starting to ask questions he got a little flustered and said you want to know the whole story and I’m just one that says you need this done and that is satisfactory and enough . So 6 months later I go to a doctor Spencer in Knoxville Tennessee and he said needs his own MRI as a lot can change in 6 months , which a copy of MRI had been sent to him , so he just shows me this black copy has 3 light spots on it and says this muscle looks strongest I can work with for reversal repair ! I’m so scared don’t know who to trust or what to do ! I’m praying there is help out there or this is read and can help !!

My surgeon told me yesterday that my rotator cuff tendons are so messed up that he cannot fix them and I will need RSR. He is going to consult with a colleague with more experience to see if there is any way to repair the tendons, but I'm tempted to get the RSR anyway. He says he is booked up for the surgery for 3 months. This seems an unreasonable wait. The main reason I would want to avoid RSR is that they say you cannot lift your arm as high, hold over 25 pounds, and reach behind your back very well. I wonder if the latest advancements have helped with these limitations. I believe my bones are just fine. It's that my supraspinatus muscle is atrophied and the tendon and other tendons in the rotator cuff are messed up. Be careful fellow boomers. One misstep and a nasty spill can mess up your retirement. At least for awhile. Like months. Like the comedian Steven Wright said, "Sure I'm paranoid, but am I paranoid enough?"
