Mr. Tucker, this time you surprise me in a very unique way delivering this product. I though you will go into very detailing foliage of the trees.... ( remembering previous session). But all in all it did come up a dissent picture. My gas’s that you were following the main idea of presenting the rules of dominant colors. Thank you so much !

Gregory - I am happy to surprise you - detail is always a variable - your observation is good - I chose to concentrate detail in the bridge and leave the foliage as a suggestion....

Wonderfully informative video demo. I held my breath a few times when he applied some of the darker tones but it came together beautifully and the undercoat shone through. I’m amazed that he can run a commentary and paint at the same time in that relaxed style. That’s confidence for you! Thank you so much Gary.

Great teaching and tutorial explaining any color can be chosen. I loved the interpretation. Yours' are never boring. If it had been done in all the warm color there it wouldn't be near as exciting. They were very unique triads. I feel like I learn so much in your tutorials. And the underpainting came through nice. Looks like quin violet or perylene violet . I agree that choosing maybe 2 keys of color and digging in really works. I have felt that I needed to "chase" color while the shadows change. Thanks for the tips. It reminds me a bit of what Laurel Hart does. 🤗

Thanks very much. I can relate to the idea of 'chasing colour'. I definitely spend all my time trying to match colours. I'm still finding my way but like very much the idea that I can relax and work on the idea of a thing - the feeling of a place.

THANK YOU for providing all this information! This is a huge help. I have one question: when you write about Chroma in the PDF, across from that you have described it as ‘purity’ of a color. Am I understanding this correctly to mean that the color is made up of only one pigment as opposed to two or more. There are some watercolor pigments that are made up of two pigments which can create problems when mixing with other colors, maybe resulting in ‘mud’. Please keep this series going! When you talk about the ‘planning’ of a painting I have found this very helpful/useful and want to hear more on this as well as the ‘mother color’.

Hi Gary. Thanks very much for this tutorial! You are a fine instructor. Do you tend to use a lighter pair of complimentary colors, such as the cad red light and the cobalt turquoise and then a darker pair of colors, I.e. the Alizarin Crimson and the Viridian as you approach any painting?? Heatherose

Great video gary. I heard from another watercolorist that they also like to mix on the page, but they seemed to allude to the fact that overmixing on the palette actually gives you less vibrant colors. I'm not sure if they meant the physical act of brushing the pigments too much while mixing on the palette, but is it possible that is the case? i.e. the loss of color isn't muddiness of mixing too many different hues, but actually comes from necessary amount of brushing while mixing the colors on the palette. Any thoughts?
